Confused, Irritated, Nervous.....
Valentina replied to LACRACRA2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call THEM. I would keep calling until you are scheduled or released from having the test. I would graciously remind them that it is THEIR oversight , not yours. I would remind them that you are already on your pre op diet. I would ask them why do you need to have a sleep study test if you haven't used your CPAP in years and you "ain't" dead yet. I would advise them that you are available for testing Friday, over the weekend and Monday. Way back in the day, when I was pre testing I refused to have a sleep study. I had absolutely no history of any sleep disorder==no apnea, no snoring, notta, nothing. I suggested and my Dr. agreed that I take a pulmonary function test. That is the test that fire fighters have to take yearly to ensure their lung capacity. Why don't you suggest taking a "PFT" (medical jargon ) It is much easier to schedule and takes much less time--about 1hr. Can't hurt to ask, right? Back in my day, the PATIENT was always to come first. What happened? I will keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for a satisfying outcome for you, Friend. Let us know what you find out--every step of the way. Yes, I'm nosy, but I REALLY care. See? now I'm aggravated for YOU. -
Probably most stupid question

On the "table" you will wear only a surgical drape. Period. -
Confused, Irritated, Nervous.....
Valentina replied to LACRACRA2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since it was their oversight, suggest that you are available to do a sleep study test tomorrow--Monday, or even over the weekend. Be assertive, but not aggressive. There is still time to get it done. They need to step up and make it happen---in my opinion. Good luck and let us know... -
Eating a lot of broth
Valentina replied to garciagiss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you making your own broth/? That really ups the taste. AND will keep the sodium down. Also, try adding some Nutritional Yeast to the broth. It will add more savory tastiness to the broth. It will taste like "croutons" without adding anything to the texture. You will still only have "broth". Tomorrow--big day! What are you adding for Protein? Time to think out of the box... Wish you well and a joyful WLS journey. -
Any Nausea Remedies?

I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?
Valentina replied to Km77942009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Smart move----getting checked out just as soon as you did. It's amazing how painful anxiety and/or nerve upset can be. I'm sorry you had to experience such a "bump in the road". Take a deep breath. Rest for a wee moment to contemplate, and THEN get your arse up and get movin' down the path to your new and joyful journey. Please, don't hesitate to ask any and I do mean ANY questions you may have along the way. That's what BP is all about---supporting one another--helping when we can, and referring to others when we can't. Stand strong. You aren't the first, nor are you the last member to make a mistake. We ALL have--to one degree or another. --and continue to. Keep posting . I look forward to sharing with you the success of your WLS journey. -
Any Nausea Remedies?
Valentina replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some warm ginger ale. Also, if you could just hold some ginger root in your mouth to suck on---, that will help. I keep candied ginger in the house--always have for nausea. Tiny bites. Did you see you bariatric doctor when you went in? Do you think that the steroids might be raising havoc? Just a thought. Why not give your bariatric team--if you didn't see them--and ask for their guidance and/or suggestions? Couldn't hurt, right.? Feel better, my friend. Let us know. -
More calories = More weight loss? HUH?
Valentina replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have chosen to have my "turkey waddle" tightened and my arms done before my "apron" and "lady bits", but I NEED to have the abdominal skin removal first to stabilize my spine. I guess my turkey waddle will have to wait until I step on it, and my arms will wait until a sudden gust of wind just takes me away... -
More calories = More weight loss? HUH?
Valentina replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the hanging skin on my abdomen removed. Everything "relocated" that's underneath it now and anchored--belly button included. (just like Cher' ) I'm having my thighs lifted and my "lady bits" reshaped. (don't know what "shape" they're in now because I haven't really seen them in years! ). -
Im checking to see if this tags you and/or alerted No it didn't. Did you want it to? I am heading into skin surgery soon. Was it really yucky?

More calories = More weight loss? HUH?
Valentina replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes, it's happening to me. My weight loss slowed almost to a halt. My Nut. recommended increasing my calories from 800-900 to 1100--1150. It has kicked my weight loss forward again. This is a sustainable diet for my lifetime. Still Protein first, but adding small amounts of all of the food groups.--Still no junk. I haven't come this far to eat junk again. I am heading for skin surgery soon and plastics want me on a "more balanced" diet. Doing as Plastic requested AND kick starting my weight loss is a win/win, I think. -
Does anyone own a Fitbit?
Valentina replied to haveyoumetalexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is. I have the paperwork and literature that came with it that states that it is waterproof. Like I stated above, I wore it in the pool everyday since Valentine's Day until about three weeks ago when my orthopod took me out of the pool until after my skin surgery. My daughters bought it on Amazon. Fitbit Charge HR--waterproof. I don't know if they only made a few of them or what, but I have one and love it! None of the fitbits are waterproof, they are Water resistant - see the link below. You ars likely doing yours damage which will eventually fry it https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1598 No. My fitbit clearing states on the box and in the literature that came with it that it is WATERPROOF. As I stated, I've worn it everyday since Feb. in the pool, showering, washing dishes--everywhere and it is still working marvelously. It was purchased on Amazon, but is no longer available. I love my waterproof fitbit. -
Welcome! Never too old to want to feel healthy. Never too old to do anything we want to do. LIKE FISH!!!!

My daughters gave me a FitBit for my birthday and I love it. I only take it off to charge it--about every 4=5 days. I wore it in the pool---everywhere. My orthopod has taken me out of the pool and the gym for right now, but as soon as I have my skin surgery and recover--you bet my FitBit and I will be back in the pool. -
Horseback Riding Lessons
Valentina replied to Montana Gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya know what? Me too! I'm gunna do it --get back up on a horse again. No fair you guys having all of the fun... I always had a horse when growing up. I miss them. I miss their smell. I miss their "snorts". I really miss the enjoyment I felt every time my last horse, "Coco" bit my brother. He hated horses and she knew it! My grandfather used to drive Santa in the Thanksgiving Day Parade for years and years. Back in the day, Santa road on top of a stage coach drawn behind a matched team of Clydesdales. When it came time for two of the team to be retired the owners offered them to my maternal grandfather.--who lived in New Jersey. He brought the Clydesdales by train to Kingston, NY. That was as far as the train went at that time. There he met my paternal grandfather who WALKED the team home to the family farm--80 miles! My grandfathers had to have all of the harness' custom made for "Jake and Luke". They, like the other horses on the farm, where never worked on Sundays. My grandfathers always insisted that all of God's creatures were to rest on "The Lord's Day". Somewhere I have a picture of myself--probably 5yrs old, sitting on top of one of the Clydesdales. I can still remember---how high I was off of the ground--I was almost in Heaven--literally! Sorry, for the long story. All of this horse talk brings back memories of some of the great horses I've been fortunate enough to know. Yep, me too.. I'm going to get "back in the saddle". Probably should wait until my skin surgery, but right after that------up I go!!! Thank you for the inspiration! -
Many women (and some men) actually do decide to have bilateral mastectomies when there is a history of breast CA in their families. I've read that those who chose this path say that. the fear and anxiety over whether breast CA was in their own future was unbearable. Having their breasts removed relieved all of that and let them live a much more peaceful life. Just a thought... Soo sorry that you have had to endure your struggles. Best thoughts for your future. Rant to us anytime, my friend.

Will WLS work if the problem isn't overeating?
Valentina replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It looks like there have been a lot of ppl who don't read. I eat 1000 calories or less and weigh 280. I was bulimic for years. I got the band and list then regained even though I was under 1000 caliries a day. I'm considering the surgery because the doctor says it changes your body's set point. My fear isn't that I won't lose, but that once again I'll regain because my body really wants to stick at this weight. I eat a whole foods diet, not a SAD. I do keto. I just don't lose. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App With a condition as unusual/clearly medical/atypical as yours, a public WLS forum where most of us got fat from overeating junk is probably not going to get you the responses you need and desire. Definitely come here for support and love as you go through the process, but as far as factual scientific advice? Your situation is so far out there in the atypical range, I'm sure there are very few here that are qualified to answer. Best to you!! I'm sure with your desire to succeed, you can make it happen. I wasn't the OP. I was just letting her know she's not alone and that there are said to be benefits for those who are not eating 2 meals at McDonalds for dinner and still unable to lose weight. However, I'm not really sure where else one would look if they were in my situation and looking for answers. I can't possibly be the only one in my situation. And doctors assume I'm showing them my food diary that shows whole foods and then running thru to get a milkshake. No one believes me. I don't care and im not offended. But when I do start a thread with questions it's because of can't possibly be the only one in my situation and I need help too. As far as the doctors are concerned there is no reason and I just need to exercise harder. I did that. 2 hours a day. Where else can I turn? Like I said I wasn't asking questions originally, but where else would I go? Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal AppY You and the OP are absolutely warranted by coming here and asking your questions as well as sharing your experiences. Sometimes, just saying how you feel and having someone who will listen with concern is all that is needed to help get over a "bump in the road". We are not experts here, but we should always be willing to listen to a member who is "struggling"--physically and/or mentally. Most members on this site are great listeners. We can give no medical advice. We can "round table" ideas and can "suggest" based on our own personal WLS journeys. I hope that is enough. -
When did you have your surgery? It could be that you are still healing and you still have some gas that hasn't escaped yet. Be kind to yourself. Try a heating pad? Take short walks. If you are uncomfortable and/or concerned enough, please call your bariatric team and let them know what's going on. They know you best and can guide you. Feel better and let us know what you find out.

Friend, if you didn't have doubts, you wouldn't be "normal". Everyone does--or at least should-question themselves before having WLS. It is life changing. Why not discuss ALL of your doubts and concerns with your surgeon when you see him next.? Listen to what he thinks after hearing all of them (make a list so you won't forget any). Consult with your NUT and your therapist. If you don't have either of these two professionals---get them. They are (in my opinion) essential for a success WLS journey. Talk, discuss, ask and then repeat all of those things, until you KNOW . --AND when the time is right, you will know. Good luck and best wishes for a successful life's journey--whatever it is to be.

I'm sorry if I'm being obtuse, but "spasms" of what, Friend?

Will I ever enjoy food I like again
Valentina replied to hazelzay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes there will come a day when you will be able to eat something that you like now--like a burger. Just keep in mind that you may not be able to tolerate: the bread, sweet ketsup, Pasta, rice, anything overly sweet, spicy or overly rich. Choices and trade offs-- WLS journeys are all about those two things. You will know that you are truly ready for WLS when you can go into the OR knowing fully that you may not be able to tolerate some foods--EVER. I am over 5yrs out and still can't tolerate the foods I mentioned above. However, the benefits that you will acquire from having WLS FAR outweigh the sorrow of not being able to eat ketsup. You just have to learn to make your own--not as sweet. Some folks never experience the intolerances that I have mentioned. You may be one of those. I believe, however that you have to be ready to sacrifice some things in order to benefit that long term success. Good luck, Friend. -
I thank YOU for your words---on you first post. I am humbled that my words are able to help. Believe me, friend, with very few exceptions, I have received far more support from the members on BP than I can ever repay. I truly believe that not everyone's WLS journey is going to be "all sunshine and rainbows". My thinking is that if I can turn my journey around and be successful, I have a moral obligation to simply "pay it forward". Thank you again for your kind words.
