Need help one again lol
Valentina replied to D'Sleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgical team has to make sure that you are "you", for one thing. They also check: blood type in case of transfusion need pregnancy test STD testing MSRA testing Narcotic testing Nicotine testing There's soooo much about us that is revealed through our blood. It's all routine. It's all good. Just relax and go to sleep ---wake up having had you WLS. -
TMI post, ladies this post is mostly directed for us!
Valentina replied to caseycat7's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep. This is one of those nasty things that you should call your team about. Yeast infections==nasty buggers---can come from antibiotics disrupting you natural bacteria equation, or from being dehydrated---also causing bacterial imbalance, or from a vast arena of other possible culprits. Please give your team a call. They know you and will have you "itch free" in no time. Take care of yourself and please let us know how you make out. -
I was told once that "women are the most vicious creatures on the planet. They can bleed for 7 days straight and still refuse to die"! The man who told me that never "felt the need" to repeat it... I say to all of my fellow women: "you're welcome".

No, you're right. You can not change it now. SO-- What's the plan for the "Fantastic Four"? Together you have a wonderful opportunity to join together and adapt your lives to your sleeves. Let your sleeves work for you. Learn to listen to it---respect it and your sleeve will guide you to a healthier life. I fought mine for 4years. Finally, I have "made up" with my sleeve and we have become a team worth reckoning with. You can't change "it", so you have to change "yourself". Once you do that, you will not only healthier, but also more content within your own body. That's a win/win anyway you look at it. Take care of yourself. Be kind. "Fantastic Four"----I like that!

Normal? What's normal?? I am five years out and can not eat pasta, rice, anything overly spicy or sweet. I am one of the 17% of sleevers who experience "dumping". But my new food choices has become my "normal". Everyone's journey is completely individual. Will you ever be able to have pizza? Probably. Will you still want to eat pizza? Valid question. Your tastes will change--most WLS folks' do. Can you have heavy pasta with rich sauces? Tough question. I would bet not so much. If the heavy pasta doesn't hit your sleeve like an anvil, the rich sauce probably will. The theory is that you should be able to eat whatever you want and you can include in your daily menu/portions. Does that theory always prove to be true? NOPE. I hope it will hold true for you.

Becoming vegetarian after surgery.
Valentina replied to tony031469's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have trouble with chicken. I just don't like it! Nasty... Many WLS folks have major taste changes post operatively. Every couple of weeks, try eating meat---tiny bits. Usually beef will be the last dense Protein to be tolerated. Don't give up the ship! I thought about becoming a vegetarian once, but am EXTREMELY allergic to all beans/legumes. Oh, bother... -
Not behaving myself...
Valentina replied to judy vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely hopeless? Of course not! In need of a swift kick in the pants? Yep! Pick up the phone before the sun sets again and make an app'tment to see a "bariatric friendly" therapist and another app'tment to speak with your NUT. Your bariatric surgeon's office will be able to recommend ones for you. Now and until your therapy app'tments, put your big girl panties and MOVE FOREWARD. You know what you have to do. DO IT! Why did you have WLS in the first place? Put reminders of the reasons on your fridge, cabinets, night stands, mirrors---everywhere throughout the house. When you spot one of your reminder notes, STOP and read it ---out loud. That should re-enforce your initial commitment. Concentrate on fluids, fluids and then some more---fluids.. Let your surgery site heal. Think--FLUIDS. You can do this. You know you can or you wouldn't have made it down your WLS path this far. NOW, JUST DO IT!!!! I'm rooting for you. You're just in need of a "pep rally". -
If you are at the point of a sexual relationship (notice I said, "relationship", not just "hooking up for an hour"), then I believe that a couple should know each other. Their communication should have included important experiences in their lives. Have WLS and everything that journey includes certainly would be a mentionable life experience. A long lasting relationship has to have a solid foundation of truth and compassion. If all you want is a night of meaningless sex, then "there's your sign". I believe you are worth more than that.

Any kind of Fluid counts: Water flavored water soups SF pops coffee tea crushed ice tomatoes watermelon milk fruit juice Set your mind to getting your fluids in, Then pull up you big girl panties and DO IT! You know what you have to do. You are five months out, friend. Same ol'/ Same ol'. Nothing new or fancy. Make getting your fluids in your #1 priority. If you don't, the ER will. Feel better. I care about YOU.

I signed a consent allowing my surgeon to perform an open surgery if warranted. I wish others would have the same opportunity. The end result would be the same. WLS. ---just more of an incision and a wee bit longer recovery. My opinion---and only my opinion---GO FOR IT!!!

Maybe too much but...
Valentina replied to BigFine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing to be embarrassed about, Friend. Did you have a catheter during your surgery? You could be irritated from that experience. OR You could be experiencing a hormonal flush that many feel after WLS. Either case, it should pass. However, if you are really concerned about it, give your bariatric team a call and get a sincere answer to your question. Right now, those folks know you better than anyone else. Please, remember, that you are not having any experience that other WLS folks haven't had. I hope you feel more "comfortable" soon. Please post and let us know the answer to your very legit question. -
No one can undo a sleeve so, YES, even now being 5yrs out, I have moments of regret.. BUT I consider those moments, moments of weakness when I have to remind myself-- I can wallow in a wrong decision OR I can make a wrong decision right. That's when I give myself a virtual slap along side my head and get back to the business of becoming healthy and happy again.

Alex Brecher can you help?
Valentina replied to Unbridled's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you know that 7% of all canned dog food is consumed by humans?? Sad, but true. I know that Rachael Ray's dog food looks better than most of what I cook! I love this thread! It's just for fun. Sometimes I believe we need to take the time just to be --silly. PS: Do you remember the "Kraft" specials around the Holidays??? I just know that the commercials were created by the "Fat Demons from the Five Circle of Hell"... OMG! I ate nothing but cheese for weeks!... -
God bless the "chubby chickens"! I buy one about every week.

I have found that if I see an interesting recipe, I will plan it, shop for it, prepare it and glorify in the whole process. Then there are times when I'll just eat a Protein bar. I am five years out and still experience no hunger. I'm actually sad about that. All of the fun and anticipation of "social dining" is gone. I'd rather be doing something---anything except "wasting time" eating. I find that I have to stay attentive, or I'll find myself grazing, instead of stopping and taking the time to concentrate on my eating. Work in process...no regrets.

How Did You Choose Your Surgeon?
Valentina replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My orthopedic surgeon who did my knee replacement asked "in house" for me and found the Center of Bariatric Excellence in Middletown. After much communication and research I made my first app'tment and never had any regrets about my choice of surgeons. My bariatric surgeon came to John's "calling hours". That act of compassion will be a comforting memory for me forever. -
Do your research. Plan ahead and you won't have any nasty surprises. You can have anything-----when cleared for "all foods" AND You plan ahead. PS: Chickens do NOT have "fingers".

Welcome to "The Hood", my new friend. There aren't too many of us "Nor' Easterners" on BP, so I am delighted to see your post. I am from the Catskills, which is only , what? one mt. range away? I wish you a joyful journey---one step at a time. The final decisions will always be yours, but hopefully we on BP can be of some encouragement to you along the way. Here's to only tiny bumps in your road to successful WLS.

This one hits home. I was pulled over for a routine traffic check a few weeks ago and the officer kept insisting that the photo on my license was not me. (It was about 8 years old) Fortunately I had my two year old grandson with me who validated my existence. I went the next day and renewed my photo.

Meet you on "The Losers' Bench". Have a nice nap! Prayers...Amen!

Smart mom! One should always listen to one's "momma". At least that's what I tell my daughters.

TMI.... What do you do when you have stomach bug post WLS
Valentina replied to ocgirl15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ginger soothes the gut. Try some flatten diet ginger ale. Diet ginger hard candies might help. chicken is the most "calming" Protein. Homemade chicken broth always is a standby. Don't worry too much about "food". Just stay hydrated. That needs to be your goal right now. Feel better. I wish I could bring you some of my homemade chicken soup. I make the best in the whole universe---just ask me. :0 -

I realized mine when I went to my grandson's graduation from kindergarten. I haven't quiet come to grips with my feelings about it though. Here it is: I looked around the auditorium and suddenly -out of nowhere realized that I was no longer the fattest woman in the room. I'm a bit ashamed of the thought. I'm a bit amazed of the observation. --and I'm more than a wee bit proud of myself. Confused? So am I.

See, Mamma, how smart you really are? Good going----(enjoy the pun) I also know that coffee or ginger help some folks. My grandmother used to use an Ivory soap sliver as a suppository to get things moving along. It is both gentle and effective. Dulcolax stool softener may be added to your Vitamin regimen daily. Ask you team for a RX. It is gentle and what a lot of WLS folks use. Good luck "mov'n long".
