    Hello :)

I think I will be stalking those who are getting sleeved before me!! I am starting to get alittle anxious. Hopefully it will be comforting, or at least informative, to follow the early July sleevers!

    Hello :)

Hey Nancy, we will be sleeved the same day on opposite sides of the city! How cool is that?!?
  9. Thanks for bringing this up! My son is turning 1 just 11 days after my surgery. Of course, that will bring the husbands family. They have no idea I am having the surgery and I have no plans to share! I will be in the pureed stage when they get here. I was planning on saying that I had my gallbladder out or something. The colonoscopy prep may be a better idea though

    Drain tube

Now I am wondering about the drain tube too! I guess I assumed it would be removed BEFORE I went home. I can only imagine trying to keep my 1 year olds fingers waya from it!

    Hello :)

Yay!! I am glad there are quite a few of us getting sleeved in July!!
  13. It really depends on your insurance. Mine (Anthem) preferred the surgery be done at Jewish and they would pay more if I had it there. Since I did opt for Jewish, it took alittle longer. However, I had to be sure and schedule what worked best with my crazy work schedule too. I got my date at the end of April. They can get you in much faster at Journeylite but I wasn't willing to pay the extra $2500... I'll just let my insurance do that. I figured I have been fat this long, alittle longer won't kill me! I promise the time flies from when you get the surgery date. The insurance approval seems to drag though! Blessings, Leslie
  14. Hello Gayle! I'm Leslie. Dr. Curry is doing my sleeve six weeks from tomorrow! I really like him and all of his staff. If anyone can help you through the insurance stuff, it will be them! Best of luck on your journey!

    Contraception After Surgery

The Depo shot has about the highest rates of side effects and complaints. While it does "work" to prevent pregnancy, there are healthier ways. Usually I try to get my clients to look at more natural forms of birth control. ALL of the hormonal birth control methods, except Mirena, increase your risk of blood clots and of some cancers. Many people who take Depo gain weight. Although after the sleeve it is harder to gain weight, it isn't impossible. Since all of us struggle with weight, I think it's best if we stay away from things that help pack on the pounds! BTW... most people who have MIrena have very light periods or no period at. Blessings, Leslie
  16. Hello and welcome! I am having my surgery on 7/12. I am very comfortable with the idea of having the sleeve. Although the other procedure was an option, I don't want the procedure to be reversible! I want a lifelong tool. I think if I knew it could be reversed, it would not be as effective for me mentally. Blessings, Leslie

    Contraception After Surgery

I also have the Mirena. Like the other posters said, it does have hormones but they are not systemic. It works quickly and does not interfere with fertility once removed. I am currently in midwifery school so I have a pretty good idea about birth control methods. I would recommend AGAINST hormonal pills and the depo shot for at least three to six months after surgery. Actually, I almost always recommend against them. I would use barrier methods or the IUD. Good luck! Leslie

    about me, first post

Hello! My name is Leslie and Dr. Curry is doing my sleeve on 7/12 at Jewish! I love him and his staff. They are so helpful. The insurance team is great!
  19. Kelly- Was that a per day food intake or per meal?? I start my pre-op diet at the end of June but if I drop a few more pounds before, I only have to do it for a few days. Your diett sounds fairly simple! Thanks, Leslie

    Hello :)

Hello to everyone!! Sorry, I kinda forgot to recheck my post! I am glad that there are a few of us scheduled for July already! It seems far away and very close at the same time. July was the only month that worked for me. I ama student midwife and I have pregnant mamas due every month but July! What kinds of pre-op diets are you doing??

    Milk after surgery??

I have a question..... After surgery, when you can start drinking milk, does it matter the type? Other than calories, is there a reason not to drink Whole milk? I ask cause we usually milk our cow and drink the milk. I pull off the cream to make butter though so it isn't full strength. I plan to ask at my nutrition class but that isn't until June! Thanks! Leslie
  23. This is probably a dumb question but I will ask anyhow! Are the staples used on the stomach (internally) metal or some other type of material?? I was just wondering if they dissolve or if I will be walking around with metal in my belly forever! Thanks, Leslie
