Can You Eat Salad, Vegetables And Fruits With The Gastric Sleeve?
leigh321 replied to Jesusislove's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes you can eat salads, veggies, and fruits....I eat them all the time. It just takes me like 30-45 minutes to eat a salad. I waited until I was about 2 months post-op since raw fruits and veggies are harder to digest, but I do fine with it now. -
Getting Around Eating Out With Friends And Family

My surgeon also gave me a little card saying I have had surgery and that allows me to order off the children's menu, which is really nice! -
Do you use straws when drinking? I tried using a water bottle that had a straw and it made me burp way too much! I had my VSG done on October 24, 2011 and am down 56lbs so far. I lost a ton my first month, but once I started eating and working out, it seemed to slow down. Just stick with the rules and you will eventually see results! Working out is a huge part of it though! I didn't think I could go back to work after 2 weeks and barely being able to eat, but I was able to do it and I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse. You might need to eat more often if you are unable to get enough in at one time....I usually eat every couple hours, but small portions. As far as your mood, that is a hard one to deal with. I struggled with ups and downs emotionally, and all I can say is find someone to talk to about it. Find someone you can be 100% honest with about how you are feeling and who will support you. For me, the emotional part of my journey has been the hardest for me. There are days when I feel depressed, but then I just remember that I am doing something awesome for me health, but I have to put in the work. So I get up and do it. No one said it was going to be easy, but they said it would be worth it. Good luck on your journey!

Hello everyone! I came across this website last night after attending my information session on weight loss surgery. My mom had the bypass last year and after doing research and being a nurse, I thought the sleeve would be a better option for me. I just made my initial visit with the surgeon for next week and am feeling very nervous about it. I am 25 years old, and I am at my highest weight which is 275. Crazy to think that just 7 years ago when I graduated high school that I was 168. I have tried dieting and I exercise and am just having no luck. I have borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol and my mom (before her surgery) had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and was prediabetic. I want to get my weight under control now before I start having major problems, cause as a nurse, I have seen the horrible complications of diabetes. I guess I am just looking for people's input on after surgery side effects. I am worried about nausea, which my surgeon said is common with the sleeve. I guess I am more worried about the vomiting that comes after nausea the most. Has anyone experienced this? And, my mom lost alot of her hair after her bypass, so this is another worry of mine, especially being a 25 and single. LOL. I know they say that you don't have the Vitamin deficiency with the sleeve, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this as well. Any comments/suggestions/personal stories would be much appreciated!!!! I am looking forward to a life change, but it is super scary!!!!
