confused about meals/free foods
Raine replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow your doctors orders. Part of this stage is also clensing your body and mind of what you were used to doing. Your doctor didnt require a liquid diet pre op if I'm not mistaken where as some require it for a week to 4 weeks to longer. Each doc is different. I was on a full liquid diet for 4 weeks before I went to mushies, 2 weeks pre op and 2 weeks post op. It helped me in that time to get rid of some very bad habits that I was doing. -
Yup, all those fluids from the IV. I got home from the hospital and was up about that much too on day 4 or 5. A few days later I was down that plus like 5 LOL. Don't be discouraged!

SOOOOOOOOOOO Nervous !!!
Raine replied to All Sleeved Up's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations! See if you can handle the Atkins low carb/low sugar shakes 15 grams of protein per 11 oz. The dark chocolate is really good. Good luck on your journey!! -
Lola, you want to exercise and have fun doing it? Try Martial Arts! You learn how to defend yourself, you get in shape and most of all its a lot of fun depending on the dojo you train in. See if there is an IMB in your area, I know they are in California too so you can look it up for the summer. I am 5'5 and I can't tell you the feeling of POWER I had the first time I took down a 250lb 6ft tall man! LOL I would wait until you are 18 before making a final decision on the VSG. For no other reason than your mind and body are still developing.

Should I go ahead with the Gastric Surgery?
Raine replied to MelD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you need to do what is best for YOUR health. I understand your Dad's worries and you not wanting to add extra stress to your family, but you do have the support of your husband and that is great! If you tell your Mom, do it very factually, sometimes that makes the impact better. That is what I did with my family. Give her the stats, you can't argue with that. Sleeve or bypass? Why don't you get to choose? I think the sleeve is the best choice (but again I am biased lol). Your "plumbing" stays the same and you don't have the dumping that occurs with the bypas as well as the malabsoption issues. And when you reach goal, you can eat normal foods all you like just in moderation. You won't be limited. I hope this helps. Good luck on your journey. -
Yay....getting sleeved June 27th!!

I wish all of you a wonderful journey! You have all just made a decision to better your lives and thats the best thing of all! Congratulations! -
My Journey began in March for surgery in SC, surgery is now in Mexico on June 27th
Raine replied to StephieLynn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is normal. I am happy you decided on the sleeve, the band has so many complications and not enough results but thats just my opinion. You did your research and your homework, you should be fine. Keep us updated on how things go and good luck! Sounds like you are determined so I have no doubt you will make it. *waves from the sister state of NC* -
I hated the powders when I tried them and just couldn't get used to them. I use the Atkins low car/low sugar drinks. They have 15 grams per 11 oz drink. In the first two weeks post op I was able to get down 2-3 of these a day. By the third week I was able to get in 4 to equal my 60 grams of protein. Target has them for about 5-6 bucks per 4 pack in many flavors. I personally like the dark chocolate best. Hope this helps.

Glad you are home safe and sound and on the road to recovery. Thanks for sharing your story, I believe everyone needs to see all sides of this surgery. Has the gas passed by now? Hope you are feeling better! -
Before surgery I had bad bad bad heartburn because of all the pills I was taking. Tums were my best friends. Post surgery, I haven't had not even one bout of it, but needless to say I will have to sever that friendship if the heartburn rears its uglyhead again lol.

I guess everyone goes through this. I did too, I was constantly looking at the world according to eggface's recipies to see what I could have once I was able to start mushies and softs. When I started on the softs it all seemed to stop. Now I can eat what I want and I don't want it. One thing is for sure and absolutely true, your tastebuds do change, I used to HATE hamburger and mushrooms, now I love them!

When I started on this road and decided to get the sleeve, I was 240lbs as of my first month post op weigh in I was 176. The after pic was at my sisters wedding on Friday.

When I was starting to think about the sleeve I was on yet another diet and lost some weight, then saw that I needed a bmi of 35 or higher with the co-morbidities. Had the co-morbidities, but because of the diet didn't have the bmi. So I went off the diet and gained it all back grazing like a mad woman. I too wish I thought of the weights too. LOL

I had a pain in my left side for about a week and a 1/2. It is a muscle pain. My doc thought it was a gas pain but the pain meds don't work on gas lol. They did work on that pain though. Take your meds thats what they are there for. As for the other, not everything is going to be perfect, listen to your docs. If they thought there was an issue they would tell you. You need to relax, take a deep breath and say serenity now Seriously, just concentrate on your liquids etc. You will be fine.

You look amazing and I bet you feel just as amazing! You rocked your sleeve and it shows. Congratulations! -
So I went to Fitness Kick Boxing tonight. This is the first time in over a year that I have stepped foot in the dojo. I got there a little early to see the advanced class in Martial Arts in action. While I was standing there watching some grappling I said "Hi Guys" Sho-Sempai (name for a student teacher) looks up smiles and says "Look who got skinny!" Tommy looks up when he says that and his eyes go wide and Sho-Sempai proceeded to take him by surprise nailed him to the mat. I laughed my ass off at that it was too funny. You have to see the visual, Sho-Sempai is 17 tall and super skinny, lanky kid, Tommy is about 40, tall, heavy set with muscles and some chunk. It was the funniest thing to see. The welcome I got from all the kids there was second to none other. They all came up to me and gave me a hug and said how great I looked. It truly warmed my heart.

Yeah, what Tiffykins said! LOL Great Job!!

Between insurance and jobs my journey started June 2010 and I was sleeved 4/27/2011. While I was waiting for everything to happen I lost 34 lbs then lost 13 on the pre op diet and one month post op 17. I have less to lose now post op so I agree with working out too ... You will look beautiful at the wedding!

Its the adrenaline rush that people like. Like parachuting, jumping out of a perfectly functioning plane. -
I think because we are so conscious of our weight and how we look right now, we are constantly looking at others and "sizing" them up so to speak. I find myself looking at other women and thinking I look better than her, or I am skinnier than her or she could look better. Then I tell myself to shut the f up and move on. Its only bitchy if you are rude and say it out loud, you are allowed to think what you want

Great.. flight booked and just noticed a problem!!
