    Gastric Sleeve

Never heard of the sleeve, but went to check it out at the link provided after reading 73 pounds lost in less than 2 months... is that really healthy??? Anyway, after reading about the sleeve, it seems like it is better for patients that have hundreds of pounds to lose... is that right?

When To Go Back To Work

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and returned to work the following Wednesday. Although I have a desk job, I wish I would have taken a full 2 weeks off. I was really feeling good after 2 weeks and wish I would have waited to return to work. Good luck !

Congratulations! This is the beginning of the rest of your healthy life!!!! I too am in Columbus but had my surgery May 23, 2007 at OSU. In just one year, I'm down 80 pounds with 25 more to go. Good luck with your journey!

Gonna break down and get an UNfill...

I am so glad I looked at this today. I've been struggling with the exact same symptoms for the past several weeks. I have an appointment on June 2nd to see my doctor and have been debating whether I needed him to loosen my band. I guess I'm afraid I'll be able to eat too much again and won't continue to loose. On the flip side, the chips and crackers with dip are going down too good which is causing me not to loose as quickly either. I seem to be stuck at 75 pounds lost and haven't been seeing the 1-2 pounds a week any more. My band is really tight in the morning/afternoon, but it seems to be ok in the evening... not good, by then, I want to eat to much to make up for the entire day that I've just had liquids.... So.... getting an unfill is what everyone recommends ??????
  7. GO FOR IT !!! I'm 43 and my only regret is wishing I would have done it sooner! I was banded on May 23, 2007 and am coming up on my one year anniversary! To date, I've lost 74 pounds, starting at 272!!! YEA! I can't express how much better I feel even if I don't lose another pound! The only complication I had was having to get my galbladder taken out in November, which is common for rapid weight lose. It was an outpatient procedure and my surgeon was able to use the same incisions he used for my band so it was nothing at all!!! The band was definitely the choice for me and I would definitely recommend it to everyone! Good Luck in your research and decision !

6 Visits?? or 6 Full Months

Mine was 6 calendar months. I suggest calling your insurance provider to find out specifically! Good luck !
  9. Greetings, I've been really bad about logging in and taking advantage of this awesome site. I'm hoping to do better and am finding that I'm in the need for motivation lately myself! Please feel free to ask anything you wish !!!

  10. Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with getting off track. I was banded in May '07 and have lost 60 pounds so far. It seems like it came off sooooo easy at first. I had my gallbladder removed the end of October, went on a cruise 2 weeks later, and haven't been able to stop eating since. I know I need a fill but keep telling myself I'll wait until the holidays are over... don't know if that's a good idea because it gives me more time to over eat. We're going on another trip in January so now I'm telling myself to wait for my fill after that... I didn't eat sweets for months, and now that I started, I can't stop. I know what I need to do, but can't seem to get in the right frame of mind. HELP !!!!
  11. This is my first post, and I'm really excited. I started Jan '06 researching and discussing the lap-band procedure with my family doctor. I decided to move forward with my insurance requirments and did everything needed. After 7 months, I received approval from my insurance for the procedure, but they did not approve the Doctor at the bariatric clinic that I had been consulting at. Unknown to me, he had dropped my insurance. So, here I was, so excited that my insurance had approved the procedure, but no one to perform it. I decided to look at another facility in my town and found 2 doctors at a very well known hospital that was on my insurance provider list. So, here I go again ! I started with the new hosiptal in January '07. It's the middle of April and I just received word that their "committee" has approved me for the program! YEA ! I now have to take a nutrition class once a week for the next 4 weeks, then it'll be time to meet the surgeon and schedule my procedure !!! I can't belive it may actually happen! I've tried to read everything I can get my hands on to prepare myself for this. I don't want to fail : ( I want to be one of the success stories, but have to admit, I'm scared at the same time. I currently weigh 272. I have no energy, worry about fitting in the seat when we fly, worried about fitting on a ride at the amusement park, and most of all worry about not being here to see my boys grow up and become successful. By joining this support site, I'm hoping to get the encouragement I need to move forward into a new journey of my life. A new world of feeling healthy and having energy to enjoy my life.

I had my band put in May 23rd. I've lost 61 pounds so far. I also had to have my gallbladder removed in October. You will never regret making this decision. I feel so much better and have so much more energy. I've started to level off for now but have decided to not go in for another fill until the holidays are over with the goal to just maintain during this crazy season! My husband and I just ordered a Total Gym for a Christmas present to each other and I'm looking forward to getting into a better exercise regime. The band is deinitely the best thing I've ever done, but it's still a struggle sometimes. Because you can still eat pretty much anything, you really have to change your eating habits and make better choices. Where are you going for your band? I went to OSU, Dr. Mikami. He and his staff were awesome and I would recommend them to anyone. He also preformed my gallbladder surgery. Good luck with your journey and don't hesitate to ask more questions !
  13. I love my band but was just reading about a new procedure my Doctor is doing for bypass patients... Here is the article: 01 Sep 2007 For the first time ever, surgeons in the U.S. have performed weight loss surgery without making a single incision. It's a ground-breaking method used to revisit gastric bypass operations. It could not only help patients maintain their weight loss, it could also reduce risks in the operating room. Like a lot of patients who undergo weight loss surgery, initial results for Millie Coleman were astounding. She lost more than half her body weight - dropping from more than 380 pounds to less than 160. But over the years, the pounds and the anxiety began creeping back into her life. "I was terrified that I was going to end up weighing what I did before," says Coleman. With the stress of going back to college, Millie had put back on more than 40 pounds that she'd lost after her first surgery. Doctors say that's fairly common. Gastric bypass works by creating a pouch in the stomach to hold smaller amounts of food. Over time, it can loosen. "The pouches can stretch out probably 10 to 20% over the course of 3 to 5 years," says Dean Mikami, MD, at Ohio State University Medical Center. Doctors often have to do follow up surgery to tighten up the pouches. But cutting the patient open again can carry a lot of risk. That's why Dr. Mikami tried a new approach. He's the first surgeon in the country to follow a gastric bypass with a revision operation that goes entirely through the patient's mouth. "The major difference is now our patients don't receive any incisions. Instead they have a procedure that can be done as an out-patient with a much lower rate of complication," says Dr. Mikami. By feeding tiny instruments through the mouth, doctors create pleats inside the patient's stomach to reduce its size. That helps patients limit food intake and once again lose the weight. "I love feeling this alive. It's something I never, ever anticipated, I just dreamt about it," says Coleman. Millie was the first patient ever in the U.S. to get the surgery. She says she was home and recovering in less than two hours. Right now, the procedure is only being done on patients who need follow-up surgery to their initial bypass operations. Surgeons at Ohio State University Medical Center say someday they would like to see it used as a first option for patients who desperately need to lose weight. Not sure where you live or if you would be interested, but wanted to share ! Good Luck !

    Nerves

Greetings, You guys will do fine. I was banded on May 23, 2007 and it's been awesome. I'm down 55 pounds and still shrinking. Just remember that this is the beginning to a new healthier you! You won't regret your decision and when the pounds start coming off and the energy comes back, you'll know you did the right thing! Good luck!
  15. I was banded last Wednesday, May 23rd. I've been doing great up until a few days ago. I have kept a journal over the past 2 days and for some reason, 45 minutes to 1 hour after I eat, I get really really really dizzy and don't feel good. No other symptoms, just dizzy, like I can't even walk straight. I called and talked to the doc's nurse the beginning of the week and they thought it was my blood pressure medicine making my pressure go too low and told me to discontinue taking. I've done that and haven't taken any high blood pressure meds since Tuesday. My BP has been great which is awesome, but I'm still feeling dizzy after eating... HELP, has anyone else ever had this ??? I'm gonna call the Dr. again tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this .
  16. Ok, one last time, thanks Cyndilou29, your list was great !!!
  17. sorry, I meant to thank Cindilou for her great list....typos always get in the way !!!!!
  18. I too am feeling really anxious and scared. My surgery is Wednesday. Thanks so much Cincilou for the list of things to remember. I have most, but see a few things that I didn't know about so I'll be running out tomorrow or Tuesday to stock up! I love reading everyones stories and know it will be ok and soon I will have my own experience to tell, but it's still scary not knowing and the anticipation of what's going to happen next. I know I've made the right decision and it's been a long journey since January 2006 when I started seeing my Doctor and researching. I know it'll be hard to sleep the next few nights, but am looking forward to waking up after surgery and starting a new chapter in my life, a new beginning !!!! Good luck to everyone else this week !

    Gas pain

Ok, after reading these messages, I'm really getting nervous. I have surgery this Wednesday, 5/23. I love knowing what to expect, but have to admit that it scares me too !!! Is there anything else anyone can think of that they wish they knew ahead of time but didn't ??? Is there anything I should have here at home that I may have forgotten ???? Thanks !
  20. Congrats. I have my date set for May 23rd... I too am getting anxious and am really excited. Been going to nutrition classes learning how to eat after being banded... it's been a challenge trying to eat 6 small meals per day and getting all the needed protein in. I know it'll help in the long run, but it's definitely hard to get used to!!!! Good luck !
