  1. Hello all. Well, every day is a new journey with this sleeve of mine. I was 2 months post op last Tuesday. The newest thing for me is that I am not hungry. I mean...not at all. Over the past week, I can force down a Protein Shake and some Water over the course of a day and that is it. I do not have hunger pains or anything. It sucks because I am really weak and fatigued due to lack of calories. Any suggestions from those who have been here? Thanks!
  2. lovemyboys....well that story scared me straight!!! Thank you for your honesty. I know, intellectually, that I am risking malnutrition....but I do not want a hospital stay. Foxbins....you are right. I have tried putting myself on a schedule but don't stick to it strongly becasue the idea of eating or drinking makes me ill. But I will give it a go again. Thanks ladies!

    Vitamin Choices

I would love to take the gummy's as everything else makes me sick. But my doc said no to those because they don't provide enough nutrients for a bariatric patient. Did your doc ok them?

    Shaking up stalls

Going off of my plan definitely helped me break a 3 week stall. I ate more and more carbs. It's all about mixing things up and keeping your body guessing so it doesn't reach homeostasis and has to constantly readjust. When I was in Weight Watchers I was taught this...there it is called the Wendy Plan.
  5. I had it too! About 2 weeks after surgery...the scale literally did not move up or down an ounce. For me, I was not eating enough. The body is designed to try and maintain a state of homeostasis and will do everything it can to try and "survive". The more you can mix things up with number of calories, types of foods, and exercise...the more likely you are to break the stall.
  6. I hear ya!!! I can not stand to drink another nasty shake and I am a vegetarian to boot. I got Isopure non-flavored protein poser and mix it into a cup of decaf coffee. It is an instant 26 grams of protein. I also love for Jamba Juice...I get the pure fruit smoothies with a double shot of protein.

    Question for ladies

Hello...I am 43 and have had very regular periods...I mean to the day. Never missed one in my life until I became pregnant. After my surgery I did not have a period for 2 months. I attribute it to the fact that I was barely taking in 300 calories a day and my body went into a bit of an anorexic sate. Once I got my nutrition and calories up to a decent level, it started up again.

    What made you do it?

I went to the doctor for a physical and was told I was morbidly obese". It scared me. I have two kids....5 and 7. I think it is horrible selfish to bring children into this world and not do everything you can to live for them. I don't give a crap about vanity. I want health.
  9. Good to hear form you!!! It is so validating hearing about your experience (the stall and the fatigue). I am hoping that the fatigue will get better soon. I work a lot and have a 5 and 7 year old!!! I will say hi to my mom. Take care!!

  10. Hi Jackie! I hope you get this and that I am posting correctly (didn't know how to reply to your post). I am doing ok. Started swimming yesterday to get exercise in. Having a difficult time getting my calories in so I stalled for 2 weeks and am losing again. I am still very fatigued a lot. How are you???

    COFFEE

I drink decaf now with a scoop of unflavored protein (26 g of protein with a cup of coffee).
  13. Pace yourself. My main issue wasn't pain, it was fatigue and weakness due inability to take in many calories.

    Chewing Gum??

I am a gum chewer and am 5 weeks post surgery. I tried a piece and got terrible gas right away. I'd give it a try and see how you are effected.

    scared!!

The body will adjust and stop losing weight when it needs to.

    Scar care

I am 5 weeks out and using Mederma. No difference. Worked great for my c-section scar, but not my these. Go figure.

    VSG Surgery vs. C-Section

I had 27 hours of unmedicated hard labor and 2 c-sections. VSG surgery was WAY more painful and difficult for the first week (esp. while in the hospital). I have also had my gall bladder removed. The "external" pain (i.e., muscular) was no big deal and over faster that the c-sections because less muscle is cut if surgery is laproscopic. But the internal pain is still with me 4 weeks out..that is the gas pain or stomach pain when trying to eat mushy food. It;s really 6 of one and half dozen of the other comparing the various surgeries because of the nature of the procedures and different parts of the body effected.

    backing out

I'm not clear....what is the fear about? The actual surgery? Not being able to eat the way you did before? You say you have a wonderful life at your current weight...will you have the same quality of life in 10 or 20 years at the weight? Do you want to extend your life to be with family? I am 4 weeks post op. The surgery is no joke...but each day is better and I am almost back to "normal" now. I would encourage you to explore your fears and see what they are really about and weight that agains the long term benefits.

    Hospital stay ???'s

Your doctor should have told you ahead of time how long your stay is. Mine was originally supposed to be 3 days and turned into 4 days due to excessive vomiting and inability to keep down fluids.

    Protein and Purees

Somewhat off topic...but what is everyone's daily Protein requirement? My doc says 80-100 grams a day. I wish I only had to get 60 in...life would be a lot easier.
  21. I an 3.5 weeks out and exhausted every day. I could take a nap every day if I had the time. For me, I know I am not getting enough calories in. But I think it is normal for many people. My primary physician warned me about the fatigue months ago before my surgery.
  22. Thanks ladies! I am a lacto/ovo vegetarian...so I have been eating a lot of cottage cheese and tofu but need to extend my variety. I have been craving a salad like crazy but that is still 5 weeks away. Today I went to Chipotle and got a bowl of black beans and steamed veggies that was delicious. Thanks for the responses!
  23. Hello all. I am wondering what you all are eating/drinking these days. I am barely getting in 300 calories a day and am having a tough time getting in anywhere near my protein....so I am looking for ideas! Thanks!

Having a weak moment or two

I TOTALLy get it!!! My second day home from the hospital, by baby sitter was downstairs making home made lasagna with my kids and I thought I was ok. I was starving and the smells were so good. Out of no where.....seriously I don't even know where it came from...I went into my bathroom and started bawling. I rarely cry like that. I had to call my mom to help get me grounded as I had to go downstairs and Celebrate my son's 5th birthday. I think I was a little overwhelmed by the whole thing. Thinking that I will never be able to eat the way I used to. Yeah...I know that's what I signed up for with the surgery. But still....I think I needed to break down and mourn the loss. I agree that I don't think it that unusual. Also, in terms of the weight gain.....be kind to yourself. I only allow myself to weigh once a week. It's too easy to get really neurotic over numbers. One thing I have learned over a million years of weight loss is that our bodies constantly fluctuate....whether it is Water weight, period weigh, the body trying to reach homeostasis etc.....it all even's out in the end. Unless we are eating candy and drinking milk shakes...I don;t see how it is possible NOT to loose weight with tiny stomachs. Just watch the sugar intake and focus on the Protein. Hugs to you!!!!
  25. Hello all! I need help in finding a high protein source that is low in calories. I am a vegetarian and, once I get to eat real food again, I do not want to use all of my calories meeting my protein intake requirements (e.g., via shakes). Is there a low calorie protein source either powder, liquid, anything! Thanks in advance!
