Hi. I have Aetna in California and am on the 3 month track. I had to meet with my nutritionist once, but choose to meet a second time a month before my surgery in order to be accountable and stay on track.

Feeling weak and light headed after VSG
DrMommy replied to christina420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm afraid of the same thing...so I am slowly reducing my caloric intake up until my surgery date so my body is not in such shock when I am on 800 calories a day. -

Psych evaluation time frame?
DrMommy replied to Rootman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a standard Mental Status Examination....just to make sure you are oriented. Remembering the 3 words is part of it. Pretty standard. -
Psych evaluation time frame?
DrMommy replied to Rootman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The psych evals vary so greatly. I am a psychologist and conduct bariatric assessments. Mine take about 2 hours and I do give the MMPI...it is actually very relevant to the situation as it can screen for psychosis, substance abuse, easting disorders, etc. It's really for the surgeons to protect them from potential liability. Meanwhile...as a patient, I had mine done on Friday and it was about half an hour. I pretty much told the psychologist what I wanted and needed and it was really quick. -
I'm scared too. But I am MORE scared of dying a slow death due to obesity complications. The anticipation is the scariest part. The reality will be so much better.

How to avoid the 6 month diet requirement?
DrMommy replied to kaneohegirl's topic in Insurance & Financing
There are ways around everything. For me.....it is all in the doctor. The first doctor I went to blew me off and told that she has never seen anyone get bariatric surgery through insurance and I was just better off to pay out of pocket (I have Aetna *** in California btw). I changed medical groups and went to a new doctor. Long story short....through Aetna I was supposed to go through a 6 month monitored program. I was approved today (3 weeks since going to my primary physician for the specialist referral) and I will have surgery in 6 weeks after I get the psych eval, meet with a nutritionist, and do a sleep study. For me I was very honest with my doc...I told him how I had been researching this for over a year and how ready I am. He pushed me through. It sucks that so much is left up to the will of the docs. -
Thanks!!! I know it will take concentrated effort. I was on Lindora and other high protein diets and I had to plan every meal at least a day in advance in order to get my protein in. I will be in touch!

Hello all...I am in the process of preparing for my VSG surgery in a couple of months. I wanted to hear form any vegetarians out there as to how they deal with the heavy Protein aspect of the lifestyle change. As a lacto/ovo vegetarian, I remember having to consume 80-100 grams of Proteins a day during my pregnancies. I was drinking Protein drinks every single day until my delivery dates to keep it up. So how did you prepare for your surgery and what was your diet like after?? Thanks in advance.
