High Protein Bars That Are Sooo Good!
Viola replied to Michelle Wolfe's topic in Vegetarian, vegan, raw foods
http://yourlighterside.com is a great site that has many low carb recipes. I made a pizza out of cauliflower (the crust) and my kids didn't even notice. They don't do veggies so I was shocked when they ate it all up and asked for more. It's really very tasty. -
What The Bleep Am I Doing To Myself, Oh Yeah, Stuffing My Face!
Viola replied to Viola's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I made it through the day. I volunteered at my son's school for picture day and I think getting out and doing something other than being home helped me on many levels. I was talking to adults for one and not just be sweet 5 yr old. I was on my feet walking and getting my hussle on getting things done for 6 hours and when I got home I was just dog tierd. I drank all my 60 oz of water and drank a shake for breakfast, two boiled eggs for lunch, sting cheese for snack and beef tips with a cup of greenbeans, and a salad with ranch dressing. I had one sugarless gum to keep my mouth busy. I feel like my mood and attitude was much more focused on what I needed to do. I was determined that was for sure. I even got a complement from a lady at the school who knew I'd gotten the surgery but hadn't seen her since May. It really made my day and gave me even more motivation. I'm going to be early because I'm going to sub at the middle school tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help and encouragment. Thank you Jesus for giving me the strength I'd thought I lost. -
What The Bleep Am I Doing To Myself, Oh Yeah, Stuffing My Face!

I spent thousands of dollars going to another country getting the sleeve and 10 months later I've lost 50 pounds and eating like a pig again. I've gained 5/8 pounds and no sight of stopping. I'm scared, I'm scared that I'm going to keep eating and gaining, I'm scared that I'll be back to 225 or more in a couple of months and all the money I've spent is for nothing. Last night as I ate my third or fourth piece of toast with butter, let’s not forget the butter! the voice in my head is screaming at "WTF are you doing?" I see other folks who seem can only eat a little and they are done, I can't say the same. I feel like I did before the surgery. After I had the surgery my relationship with food changed, it didn't have the chokehold on me anymore...but now its back and worse. I'm the biggest failure on this site. I'm so happy and green with envy when I read the posts of folks who got it together and doing well. I just didn't think I would ever be here again. In my desperation I called my primary doctor and set up an appointment to talk with her. I don't even know if she knows I got WLS....I want to get a full work up. I want to get on Atkins and get that carb monkey off of me. I need help and I don't know where to turn. I’m scared that I'll be like before; I'll be starting a new diet every Monday for the rest of my life. I feel like such a failure. -

Just got off the phone with my mom.....there is nothing like talking to my mommy, its amazing. I'm 43 years old and mom is still sunshine in a bottle to me. She was soothing and said some of the same things ya'll said too. She made me promise to take a walk tomorrow for 10 minutes at least and that I would feel the sunshine on my face and enjoy the Florida weather and that I'd end up walking longer and not even notice. What idiot would jump in front of a bus on purpose? That's what I feel like when I'm binge eating. I've got to stop the madness now what you guys posted and my mom just gave me that encouragement. I pledge to walk tomorrow as promised to my mom. Eat only Proteins and drink my Water, so help me my Lord and Savior. I must get through tomorrow.....24 hours is all,right?..Yes, just focus on 24 hours...one hour at a time...... I feel like I'm a crack addict or something. I'll post my progress tomorrow just to keep me honest. Thank you ya'll. -
Atkins After Sleeve...please Give Me Your Opinion.
Viola replied to Viola's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks Sleeve Guru, You bring up a good point about adding olive oil to tuna; I would never think to do that. I'm reading up on it and signed up on the Atkins site and looking at their form for information. I've also been working on my menu and stuff before I start. I've been sleeved for 10 months and lost only 50 pounds and considered overweight via BMI standards. I went from 225 to 175. I've not been able to drop anymore and feeling very discouraged and disappointed. I want to shed off another 50 pounds to get to 125. I'm so glad you posted how much Protein to get in. I'd forgotten just how much that was. I'm feeling kind of lost I guess, not really fitting in anywhere. Thank you for your insight. If anyone out there wants to be a buddy on Atkins I'd love the support. -
Hi Everyone, I could really use your input. I got sleeved 10 months ago and I've lost a total of 55 lbs and slid back and gained 5 pounds December. I've been working on my food intake and not drinking fluids with my food and that has helped. I was thinking of getting on the Atkins program to kick start my system and get me going again. I'd done the program 10 years ago and had great success and lost 85 pounds. Has anyone done this program after being sleeved? I apprciate any input from you.

Sleeved Thursday 2/16 Did Not Go As Planned, Was In Icu For Three Days. Home Now.

WOW. Bless your husband who I can imagin had his whole world turn on its head thinking he may loose you. This experience can only bring a deeper apprciation for the two of you. -
If he's a guy just tell him it's a female thing and then he'll go on lock down. Nothing ever gets a man to shut up so fast as when you talk about girl stuff, LOL. I did this once and my boss tripped all over himself. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen. BUT on the serious, just say "thank you for your conceren but I'd rather keep it a private matter." If your boss knows the rules (HIPPA) and HR he'll leave it alone. Good luck.

Can Your Tummy Get That Great Feeling Of Restriction Back?
Viola posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, I've not feel that feeling of restriction for several months and was worried that I'd somehow stretched my stomach so I stared to eat differently and now I feel like my tummy has that restriction feeling again. I wanted to know if there were others out there that have gone through the same or am I just a retard. I'm eating much less and don't drink fluids 20 minutes before, nothing when eating (which was not always the case before) and I wait 30 minutes after I eat to drink anything. I feel that restriction feeling more now that I've been holding to the no fluids etc. Is this possible? OR better yet, could going back on fluids or mushies again to give your stomach a break able to shrink the stomach and gain that restriction again? -
Atkins After Sleeve...please Give Me Your Opinion.
Viola replied to Viola's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks Rootman, I think I will do the same. I've got about 50 more to go to reach my goal. I've been on the Atkins site and read up on the program to get the basics. I'm going to get the things I'll need to get started and go from there. Thank you for responding. I always like reading your posts to folks. -
Hi Christina, Wow this is really a heavy load you are carrying. I know what food used to do for me before my sleeve and wonder if your husband is turning to food for comfort like I did and here is a question for you, was food something that both of you did together? The eating badly kind and if yes now that your relationship with food is different is he turning to food even more. They say to sleevers that we go through a morning of sorts with food right before and new into the sleeve. I know I'm just stabbing in the dark here but maybe your husband is mourning too, he lost his partner in crime so to speak. I don't know you and I don't know your husband but I'm trying to look at your situation through a different lens for consideration. When I was first sleeved my husband after time started to eat better because he saw how good I was doing and since I was the cook he had to eat what I ate. Maybe you could consider going to counseling, if he doesn't want to go then you go. It will give you a professional sounding board to help sort out your feelings and help gain perspective. Praying also helps Christina. I know that in this day and age there are many that make like of this but I believe in Jesus and know that He has been there for me through my darkest of times and has pulled me through. When my husband and I have our issues about different things I pray. I pray not to change him but to help me understand, to change something in me if its to be patient etc. Somehow it works, and somehow we find ourselves in the middle, both of us feeling victorious. Does your husband have any health problems linked to his obesity? If he does his doctor could really turn up the heat on him to get healthy. I hope for you Christina and I will include you and your husband in my prayers.

Does The Gastric Sleeve Work?
Viola replied to Optima's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Getting the sleeve works but like any gastric surgery its a tool and not a magic bullet. There are ways to cheat your sleeve and the RYN for that matter with slider foods. I've known folks who have gotten both types of WLS and gained weight back. For the RYN you have to be over 100 lbs over. Like you before the sleeve I would eat for the sake of eating and had nothing to do with being hungry. I never really was because I always ate. About 4 weeks ago I started doing that again and I gained 7 pounds. I stared to log my food intake again and that helped me a lot. Here is what I've found; we eat for other reasons than hunger and "head hunger" is the term you see around the site best describes the feeling of wanting to eat even when you're not hungry. After surgery I didn't have the same relationship with food that I had before and I was on high for a long time. I stared going through personal stressors and guess what reared it's ugly head.....the feeling of wanting to eat, waking up and thinking what am I going to eat today....etc. Working through the mental junk is harder than any of the physical. Getting a new smaller tummy or the RYN is only one step in the weight loss journey. To bad the doctor can't take out the old tapes in your brain that tell you its okay to have that cupcake, or nothing is going to happen if you take a bite of this or that because you're in control....It always starts with just a bite and then next thing you know you've reached the bottom of the ice cream carton or there is only one slice left in the pizza box. I'm getting long winded I know. I really understand what you are going through because I've been there. I just really want to stress to you that any WLS that you choose is not the cure all. It gives you the leverage to fight the weight but you'll need to be mentally strong too to be truly successful. -

Stopped Losing - Need Encouragement
Viola replied to BroadwayBaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are doing everything on target with food intake and working out. Are you loosing inches? When you build muscle you may not have the drop in pounds as quickly but you are thinning out anyway. When I have had those long stalls I'd go back to my fitnesspal reports and look at all the inches I'd lost and get encouragment from that. If you are really low carbing check your pee with those pee strips and if you are in ketosis if you are in ketosis it's just a matter of time before the scale shows it too. I commend you for working out, I'm not good on doing that for myself. -
Passport Picture Question- Calling All Travelers Abroad Please
Viola replied to former_vbg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you're really stressing about this check on line with the gov. or call and ask. Always better to be safe than sorry. -
Dear Writergirl, You sound like you are in freak-out mode and I know exactly what that feels like. It seems like an alarm went off in your head and had the WTF moment. You know yourself better than anyone else and the tricks your mind plays to justify bad behaviors. You know the answer to your question sweetheart or you wouldn't have had the WTF moment. Its great that you are in tune to yourself and picking up road hazards on your new journey. Your tummy is 11 days old and still healing. I'd stay away from carbs that have no nutritional value. Focus on getting your Protein in through Protein shakes. Have you tried almond milk? I use it with a GNC Protein powder and really enjoy it. Just remember that although you got a new tummy the old tapes in your head are still there and ready to sabotage you if you let it. Best of luck Writergirl, stay strong and keep reaching out for support. We've all been there at one time or another.

Is Smooth Potato Soup Okay On Full Liquids If Pureed?
Viola replied to Michelle Wolfe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My only concern is that its really strachy and typically on a deduction side of the surgery you stay way from potatoes. -
I'm struggling also but getting in touch with Little Miss Diva helped get me refocused and I'm logging my food again at myfitnesspal. I started a low carb diet like Atkins. After 3 days of that I find that it helps my head break off the addition and noise of always wanting more. I feel more myself. If you have any suggestions I'd like to know. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Greek yogurt with some blueberries or other fruit. It has lots of protein. I love cheese and eat it every day too. You can add protein to pancakes too. My nephew is a health buff and he made them and let me try them. They were pretty good.

I make deviled eggs with splenda and keep them in the fridge for a snack. Crock pot cooking can be pretty easy with only a couple of ingredients to through in it when you get home its ready for you. There is also always tuna salad and chicken salad, Oh and rotisserie chicken at the grocery store with a bag of salad and you got dinner. And there are some really good garlic butter and herb fish fillets in the frozen food section that are very very good. I like them a lot but can get a little expensive.
-
Thank you LilMissDiva for your encouragment and the time it took you to respond to my cry for help. It was so wholehearted. I haven't gotten on any support sites for about 6 months and stopped logging my food intake around the same time. I used fitnesspal when I did log. Your encouragment has helped me get in the right frame of mind and I'm going to take my first step tomorrow by logging in my food intake. I agree that I need to do some kind of low carb diet to break my carb addition and give me the reset I need. I still want to drop 20-30 pounds, any idea what my calorie intake should be? I don't excersise but I'm going to start doing something even if means just walking around the block with my 5 year old. I live in Florida so the weather is always good. Thank you again for your help.

I didn't think that once having the sleeve done that fighting food adition would still be a problem. I had my surgery 4/27/11 and since December I've found myself eating things that I souldn't. Bad carbs, like cup cakes, chips, ice cream etc. I find myself eating at night when everyone is sleeping and every day I tell myself I'm not doing that again and night time comes and I'm eating again. I eat for the sake of eating. I know myself all to well. I don't even feel like my tummy is talking to me because its much smaller now but I kind of feel like I can eat more and my tummy allows for it. Ugh....I feel like I've confessed my deepest sin. Please don't judge me, please help me. I know what I've done is wrong. I just need someone to help me out of the darkness.
