There is a Low Carb SlimFast canned shake now that has 6 grams of carbs and 20 g. protein. BUT, it may not be the kind of protein that we need. Check with your nut.

My nut. told me to use only whey isolate Protein. The best I have found is nectar Syntrax sold on the Bariatric Advantage website. Lots of flavors that taste like juice and some choclate and vanilla too. Also, ask your dr. if he prescribes anything for heartburn. I had a lot after surgery and tool Prilosec. Sometimes they prescribe something. Good luck!

how do they leak test you and does it hurt?
Rainydayz replied to ALHOAGIRL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's a tip: Take some nausea meds before the test. That stuff is gross! But no pain whatsoever. -
I used to love Slim fast before they changed the formula to the Optima one. Now I love Syntrax nectar Chocolate Truffle protein powder mixed with skim milk. Very low carbs and tastes really chocolatey. You can get samples and try before buying a whole tub.

I had to do one day of clear liquids before surgery, one day of clear liquids after surgery, one week of full liquids, three weeks of pureed, then move on to solids at week 5.

VSG Recovery Time
Rainydayz replied to billysgirl01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 47 and I was in the hospital one night, home the next day at 3:00 p.m. I was up and around and off pain meds by day 3 and I went to the grocery store but was pretty tired when I got home. How long is your flight? Will you have someone to help you in the airport etc? I wouldn't have wanted to travel on day 3 but you could probably manage if it's really necessary. -
How long will I need help?
Rainydayz replied to Geeewhy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you have everything set up before hand you should do fine after a couple of days. If you have no complications of course that it. DH was home until the 6th day but we have 3 small kids. After 2 days I was off the pain meds and i could do for myself as long as I didn't try to do too much (very tired very easy). The third day I made dinner for the family. Just keep someone on call if you need anything, but you should be fine. Good luck! -
Why do complete multis have iron AND calcium?
Rainydayz replied to Rainydayz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I am definitely getting my calcium from other sources but it's good to know that the Iron in the multis is OK. -
I'm 7 days out. I've been really good until today about getting in my protein and liquids. But today I just feel so blah... like I'm so over trying because it still hurts. I have bad heartburn that is not yet completely helped by Prilosec. It is better than it was the first 5 days but still hurts when I swallow. I'm just so friggin tired of forcing myself to hurt all the time by swallowing stuff. I'm hungry but I would rather just not swallow anything because it is so darn hard. I've got in about 20 grams of protein today and 245 calories according to myfitnesspal. Am I hurting myself too badly? I'm afraid of dehydration but it really is so hard to do right now. I've got in probably about 28 oz. of liquids today. I'm also afraid of ruining my metabolism by so few calories a day. Should I just keep forcing myself to swallow through the pain? It's so disheartening!

Yeah, you're right. I talked to the nurse yesterday and she said the dr. said to give it a few days on Prilosec. I have some Carafate (ulcer med) if it gets worse she said to start taking. I haven't told them about not getting in my Protein today. If I'm still this way tomorrow I will give them a call. Thanks.

Anyone Wish They Had Not Done Their Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Rainydayz replied to Karelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 7 days out today. Yesterday morning I was curled up in my bed crying my eyes out asking myself what had I done to myself. For the first 6 days I was miserable with acid pain. My dr. did not give me a PPI when I left the hospital and I'm one of the ones that really, really need one. I started one on day 5. My stitches were healing fine, hardly any pain at all. The gas was painful but tolerable and it got less every day so I was not too worried about the gas. But every single time I swallowed, even my own spit, I got rewarded with a chest-wide inferno that almost brought tears to my eyes (and eventually did.) So, yes, I regretted the hell out of doing it. That was one day after starting the PPI and the pain was still there so I thought it would be there forever. I was so scared about getting dehydrated that I forced myself to drink to the Water and the Protein shakes. But I regretted it. After my good cry, I got up and saw that I was still alive and no matter what I had to carry on. So I got on with my day. That afternoon the pain got less. Today is day 3 on the PPI (Prilosec) and the pain is still there somewhat, but not nearly as bad. So I'm hopeful today. I'm hopeful that the pain will all go away soon and I'll be able to get on with learning how to eat again and will love my sleeve like so many other people. So the answer is, yes I did regret it yesterday. But today, not so much. I hope that helps. -
Hmmm. When did this change I wonder? When I was 145 lbs. in the mid 90's I wore size 10. I've been going up ever since so I'm not in 24. I will have to go pull out some of those old jeans when I get back down and see how different they are.

Did you start vitamins right away?
Rainydayz posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Thursday. I'm wondering if I should be able to start taking those chewable vitamins, sublingual B12, calcium and iron right away. I've been reading where people are having a hard time even getting water in so I'm wondering how hard it is to get vitamins in and to stay in! How soon did you start? -
BAD surprise the day before surgery!!!
Rainydayz replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't understand why Aetna is telling you this. Didn't your surgeon's office tell you what you had to pay up front? My coordinator told me what I had to pay up front when they scheduled my surgery. Anyway, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this, but you will manage and then you will be so glad when it's all over. Good luck!! -
My surgery is June 30. I'm trying to figure out what to have on hand for when I get home. I know the nut. will tell me which vitamins to get (the pharmacy next to the hospital sells them) but I bet I can get them cheaper by ordering online ahead of time. I just don't know what all I'm going to need. is there a list somewhere of what others are using? Also, what kinds of juice (if any) are OK post-op? I know fruit juice is high-carb and not to drink it much, but I'm wondering if I can have V8 or some of the fruit/veggie juices to get in a little veggies while I'm on the liquid stage. I don't know if there are any juices I should stay away from for acid reasons or whatever. Any advice?

That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much Myrori! I will check out Celebrate now.

So you don't take any extra iron or B12? I've been reading a lot where people take sublingual B12. And I have a tendancy to anemia so I'm wondering about extra iron. I don't drink juice now so it's not like I have to change that habit. But I've heard so many people say it was hard to get in all their liquids and nutrition and I was wondering if using juice like V8 or something else would help with that right after surgery. Sure, of course, I'll be asking the nut. all about this but my appointment is not until 6/22 and I would like to go ahead and get some vitamins ordered. Just wondering about what other sleevers are taking. Thanks for the response! It certainly looks like you are doing well by your ticker. Congratulations! You're almost there!!

Umm, will someone please share their vitamin regimen at least?

Am I officially The Lowest Loser??
Rainydayz replied to 1-4-Many's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may not console you any, but it seems to me that just from reading a lot of posts, those that lost a lot on the pre-op diet, do not lose very fast right after surgery. That's just my observation from a very limited sample so take from that what you will. It does always pick back up though after a few weeks. So just hang in there and stay on plan and I'll bet you will be losing with the best of them very soon! -
So excited!

Well I did it, cheated my a** off today, 14 days post
Rainydayz replied to USMCwifeandTEACHER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't know it was even possible to eat that much at 2 weeks out. I've been reading about people barely getting in 1/2 cup at a time of mushy stuff! Scary. I hope your stomach is ok. -
Six days.

ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???
Rainydayz replied to A New Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
June 30 here too! Haven't started my liquid diet yet but I've tried the Syntrax nectar that you mix with Crystal Light. It's good. -
I couldn't wait and called Aetna today (6 days after they received the packet.) I am approved! The letter is in the mail! Of course I went and checked the mail but no letter yet. As soon as it comes it's going straight to the coordinator and we will get a date. Wow. This is really happening!!
