I want to scream at people!

I can relate, my grandmother did this to me constantly while I was growing up and made me feel like I was morbidly obese, (turns out I was a size 11 back then). I wish I had known then that I wasn't really that big, she wore a size 18 herself. It wasn't until after she died and i started looking at pictures of her when she was younger that I realized she was (in her dreadfully misguided way) trying to tell me to watch it and not end up like her, for some reason she thought this would work!! Looking at those old pictures I see we are built the same way and she must have recognized herself in my varying stages of weight gain through puberty, early adulthood. I don't know if this is the situation with your aunt, but I wish I had known not to let it bother me. All you can do for now is ignore her and watch her freak out when you start really losing!!!
  2. Thanks, I don't know why in my mind, I am picturing that 100 pounds would always equal over 40, now I see the numbers and what others have posted and it makes sense. Good luck, I bet you will be able to find someone.
  3. Hi, I am scheduled tentatively to have my surgery on May 16th with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. I might be going alone, or I might be going with my older brother. What sorts of things could he do while he is there? Any/all tips for shopping places, eating places, fun places, activities, whatever you think will be helpful. Also, if anyone who has been this year can talk about the safety issue, I am sure he would love to hear that.

    PCOS questions

I take it (not sleeved yet) and had the terrible diarrhea, etc. I switched to the Metformin XR (extended release) and the diarrhea problem went away. You didn't mention if you had tried this. I don't know why it makes a difference, but it does. Currently I take two 500 mg in the morning and two at night.

    scared & feeling numb

I too am sending you my thoughts and prayers. My mother was diagnosed approximately 6 years ago and I was sure we were going to lose her, but she is still here, has had some rough times and her cancer was difficult because it was HER2 + and more difficult to treat, however, it has not recurred thus far and she is doing well. I know you are going to have a tough road ahead and I wish you all the strength you need, you CAN get through this. I hope you find out it is non-invasive. I know you will probably find yourself spending times on other forums which are more particular to cancer, but please keep us updated!!

    4 Month Progress Pics

You have done amazingly well! So that is what Trish looks like!! 19 days until I am there, YIKES!!!
  9. You look amazing, when you are turned sideways, I bet you draw gasps!! (You've got good protrusion up top and behind!!) That is what I want!!!
  10. You have lost over 100 pounds!! Of course it is a victory!!! Congrats, I bet even if you didn't lose another pound, you'd be happy now!! This is fantastic and in a relatively short period of time!
  11. Sending lots of prayers and healing thoughts your way. Please keep us updated!
  12. With your weight being 270 pounds starting, I think you will find that the sleeve is enough for you. If, for some reason, you wanted to have a DS later, you could since the first thing they do is the sleeve. I bet you will find you don't need it. I considered the DS because I really wanted to be sure I would lose, but the more I read about just having the sleeve, the more I saw people of my weight or more who had gotten down to goal or beyond. I also know that if I ever had to, I could convert the sleeve later on.

    5 week update photos

You look fabulous!! It looks like much more than 30 pounds!! The best thing is you look thrilled!!! I am soooo happy for you, I hope to have similar success when I get my sleeve mid may.
  14. I am sure I will be corrected if wrong, but from my reading, I thought that the surgery people had to control diabetes (who are not overweight), is to have some sort of rerouting of the intestines, like a Duodenal Switch (DS), except without the sleeve and a longer common channel to prevent malabsorption or something like that. I have also read the 80/20 rule and from what I understood, there is a 20% who do not resolve their diabetes, but it improves. (Sometimes that 20% is a group who was much more overweight and who have managed to lose a lot, but to still be overweight or even obese, (just no longer mordibly obese). I also remember reading that the longer you have had the type 2 diabetes, the less likely you are to completely get rid of it. This is because the longer you have it, the more damage is already done and I believe your pancreas has by then suffered to the point that it is no longer producing the adequate amount of insulin). You don't say how long you had it. So did your doctor just suggest that you have this surgery purely for the diabetic benefit? I am guessing that this doctor is the surgeon? Or is this doctor not the same person who did the surgery? I think whoever he/she is, they were remiss in not giving you the complete data or alerting you to the fact that with any WLS, there is always a percentage of people who are unsuccessful. I wish you a lot of success, Do a search for surgery to cure diabetes and see what you come up with. Did you maybe have some weight in the stomach area? Maybe your doctor felt that by shifting this weight, (even if you weren't actually obese), you would reap some of the benefits since the fat in the stomach area is a bigger risk for health problems? quote name='fredpayne' timestamp='1303424491' post='140575'] It has been 8 months since my sleeve surgery, my A1C has gone from 6.2 to 7.4 and I have developed high cholesterol (which I have never had before) Plus I now have Protein in my urine. My Doctor here in Texas says the surgery is only 80% successful, even though he did not mention that in our initial meeting. So, here I am $12,000.00 lighter and my type 2 Diabetes is the worse it has ever been. I went to see the Doctor today, his first suggestion was for me to quit taking my meds and lose 10 pounds, then after re-thinking, he thinks I need to continue the meds, lose 10 pounds and come back and see him in 10 weeks. He says he thinks I am one of the 20% that the surgery doesn't help, even though as I said earlier, I don't remember having that conversation. Anybody know about this 80/20 rule? BTW, I was not overweight, I did not have this surgery to lose weight, My one and only goal was to get rid of my Diabetes. I must admit I am tempted to put my Doctor's name on this post, but I will wait a while on that.

    Sugar Free Stuff

I'd like to know that too, because i cannot stand artificial sweeteners, or, I could if they didn't taste 10 times sweeter than regular sugar.
  17. Thanks for posting these!! It does really help a pre-op like me get an idea of what to expect.
  18. I like this site because you can sort of pick and choose what things to read and reply to and ignore the things that don't seem to apply to you (and read them later if they start applying to you). I think I would not do well in a personal support group, I would probably just get annoyed with some people. I went to WW meetings and I hated those. I know that makes me sound totally anti-social, but I guess I have a very low tolerance for certain types of people, and I am terrible at faking interest. That is actually one of the reasons I am glad I am going out of country. I didn't want to have to go to seminars and meetings and stuff like that, I know it is great for some people, but I truly think I am one of those people who do not do well in large groups.
  19. I have skinny legs, no hips and no rear. All my pants and undies fall because my belly is bigger than my hips/legs and once they slide past the waist, they have nothing to stop them. Were any of you ladies built that way before weight loss and did it change? I'd like to think that if I can get my stomach much smaller, that my hips/butt/legs will look feminine (ie bigger) by proportion. If any of you have any pics to share of before/after, I'd love to see them, or PM me, if too personal. Thanks!!
  20. You look great and you have that "I've always looked this way look".

    First Day Back At Work

Mini, that reminds me of my son. He is seven, he was looking at our little rat terrier dog and saying to her that he thought she was getting a little fat and that he was going to send her 'to Mexico to get skinny like mama" (I haven't gone yet, LOL)
  23. No, not yet. I've always been an apple. I might have to start buying those girdles with the built in butt and hips like the drag queens do. I'd wear them now but they are all too small, ha ha. Well, I hope I can get more hourglass and less beer belly man body.
