apple-saucy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sooo up for critique and advice. So here is my Spark Menu from today. What did I do right, what do I need to work on? http://www.sparkpeop...lementByID=TRUE 5/29 Feel like I ate nonstop today. bleh I also ate junky... gah..seriously need to go grocery shopping LOL! http://www.sparkpeop...lementByID=TRUE -
Sounds like a UTI...FWIW I never get burning or pain during a UTI just a tummy ache and low back ache. A UTI would be the culprit for blood in urine, and catheters can increase the likelyhood of a UTI.

So technically I still have 6 hours until I'm cleared for normal solid foods. But I kinda figured that 6 hours really wasn't going to make or break me. I had to go to the grocery store because apparently I suddenly have a pre-teen boy in the house with a hollow leg (all 72lbs of him ate 1/2 a loaf of bread, 4 hot dogs, and the last of the Peanut Butter since he got home from school and I'm going to have TWO teen boys at the same time!!!!) Anyway so I'm at the store, and I impulse purchased a 33cent lunch box bag of sour cream and chive potato chips. Don't ask me why...it was an impulse. I LOVE sour cream and chive chips...especially if they are dipped in ketchup MMmmMM So I got to the car opened the bag and ate the first one. Meh it was okay ate the 2nd, hmmm these aren't as tasty as I remember 3rd nope not getting any better...4th and 5th were just to make sure And then I felt it.....I felt FULL. After 5 chips...and not huge ones either, I was full. So....my tastes really did change. And 5 chips are all I need/want. I won't be purchasing them again, totally not worth my $$

a low Protein diet is bad news for diabetes. (Which is what you have based on your blood sugar readings) If your blood sugar is still high on tuesday request a prescription for insulin. That will bring it down much much much faster than metformin. One shot at bedtime and your fasting glucose should be much lower. FWIW I was dx'd with type 2 diabetes on Nov. 30th 2010 was on metformin with no real change. Started insulin on March 1st and within a few days my fasting glucose was normal. Surgery was April 22nd and I haven't had another dose of insulin or metformin since. My body completely reset itself

Calorie limits for success?
apple-saucy replied to ahoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I average about 800 calories...I CAN get in 1000 but that's when I haven't made wise choices. I eat 3 "meals" and 2 snacks (meaning a piece of cheese or other low carb high protein option..not chips or crackers) I keep the carbs in check and the protein above 60. All meals are around 150-200 calories snacks are 80-100 calories. -
So I have this lovely 2oz piece of salmon that I lovingly marinated in soy honey and freshly grated ginger, also on my plate are a few green Beans and 2 one inch squares of watermelon cut into itty bitty pieces. Do you think I can eat any of it? Nope. Less than half of the Salmon chewed to death and swallowed and I'm full. Such a lovely dinner... I just have to laugh at the absurdity of it It's crazy how one day I can eat this exact amount of food, and the next I can hardly eat anything.

The Importance of feeding myself.
apple-saucy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning I got up and ate 1/2 cup of corned beef hash (and I swear once the open can is gone I well never ever buy another can so long as I LIVE!) Then hubby and I decided to take the kids to a play place that they have asked about, despite it being absolutely gorgeous outside today... with two kids with autism one of whom has high level of anxiety we figured that memorial day the play place would be essentially empty and it was so it worked out well for them. Anyway I ate Breakfast at 9am Got the kids ready to go, and left home at 11. Didn't think to grab anything to take with me to eat. Well the irrational annoyance didn't hit me until about 1 of course the kids were in full on play mode so decided I could wait...besides all they had at the snack bar was empty carbs and apple sauce. by 2 I start telling hubby that I need to get something to eat. It was 2:45 before we got the kids out the door (and hubby was less than thrilled that we were leaving) by this point I'm getting frustrated with flashes of anger. We go to the nearby Wal-mart to get Snacks for everyone...of course hubby decideds to go check out the Lego which takes 30 minutes...then my ability to think becomes compromised. Hubby asked if I had gotten any food for myself...uh...no. So we go down the tuna aisle I chose a ready made lunch kit and tossed it into the cart beaning my 4yr old daughter in the head. I of course burst into tears (and she just looks at me like "WTH MOM What' wrong with you?" ) I then feel like I'm going to pass out. It takes another 10 minutes to get out of the store and to the car where I Proceed to eat too fast (it's now 3:45 almost 7 hours after eating breakfast and 2 hours after I let my hubby know that I needed to eat) I have to stop eating after getting through about half of the little 2ish oz can and 2 crackers because it's sitting like a lead ball in my stomach. It takes me almost half an hour to eat 2oz of chicken salad and 3 crackers. We get home and I immediatly feel like I need to sleep. I slept for two hours and have been playing calorie catchup since 7. I just hit my daily minimum for Protein at midnight. I feel like absolute crap. I think I may start carrying some of those lunch kits in the diaper bag for days like this...when I forget about myself...because this body cannot function for 7hours on less than 200 calories. -
annoyed with my sleeve
apple-saucy replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's not even that I served myself too much. LOL. I served an appropriate amount of salmon, like a dozen cut green beans and less than 1/4 cup of watermelon. Perfectly sensible and similar to dinners I have eaten before without trouble. Three bites of salmon and I was done. LOL. I'll probably have it as a bedtime snack. -
What did Apple Eat Today? Updated with NEW Menu
apple-saucy replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I figure that I'm eating so little of anything that a few extra fat grams isn't going to kill me LOL. Of course we'll see what my cholesterol is in a couple of months LOL. I figure it can't get any worse than it was. -

I am hungry..should I eat?
apple-saucy replied to Lots Of Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get hungry occasionally. Ghrelin is not just produced by the stomach it is also produced by the pancreas, so I figure if my pancreas is sending hungry signals it's possible that I really AM hungry. Especially if I haven't eaten in a few hours I try to eat every 3ish hours, but sometimes i forget and the hunger feeling hits right around 5hours after eating...so I assume that is a genuine hunger signal and I will eat something. -
Need help and advise...
apple-saucy replied to TheNewMe11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is NORMAL. I knew and was prepared for the 3wk stall...but my stall hit after 1 week and lasted 10 days, and then BOOM I lost 8lbs in a week. I've been losing steadily since, just be patient the scale WILL move. -
Is there a maximum amount of protein?
apple-saucy replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is one of those...We really don't have a good idea one way or another. Scientific questions I think the consensus is "It will vary based upon your weight, your fitness routine, the amount of Water you drink, etc etc etc" -

Hypothyroid folks--what's your experience post-sleeve?
apple-saucy replied to MegInNOLA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thyroid will crash bang after trauma (and surgery is trauma) it may take awhile for it to get back up and running or it may stay down. Time will tell. Get your thyroid numbers checked if in doubt...I will be getting mine checked every 3 months for a year. -

On my 3rd week stall... so Disappointed :(
apple-saucy replied to Starry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Spoon full of peanut butter, Hummus, BUTTER yes BUTTER forget that margarine crap! IF you're gonna eat fat might as well eat the real deal LOL, Full fat sour cream, Cream cheese, Yogurt (low sugar variety) full fat cheese. DO NOT FEAR THE FAT!!! You're eating tiny quantities of food, The total fat you're going to consume is going to be tiny too. so long as you're not gorging yourself on frozen custard sundaes nightly you'll be fine! I haven't eaten dinner yes and I've already consumed 31 grams of fat today (ate some fatty fish at lunch YUM) I expect dinner will add another 10-15 grams to my daily total, I am totally and completely fine with that. Especially because a stomach bug swept through our house yesterday and I didn't keep much of anything down LOL. I eat 4-6x's per day. 3 "meals" and 1-2 Snacks...sometimes I eat 3 snacks just depends on the day and how I'm feeling. -
What was your turning point?
apple-saucy replied to samantha209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was dx'd with type 2 diabetes November 30th 2010 I had the initial consult with the surgeon December 13th. My Dad died 2 yrs ago this month from complication of type 1 diabetes. He was 52yrs old. He had nearly 20yrs that he could have used to get healthy and fight for his life. He chose to succumb to his disease and wait for it to kill him in his lazy boy...which is ultimately what happened. Heart attack while sitting in his favorite chair. I don't want to leave my kids prematurely. -
On my 3rd week stall... so Disappointed :(
apple-saucy replied to Starry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HUG It's really important to remember that your surgeon is not a god. He/she is human and failable. Surgeons tend to be on the arrogant side too...you have to be in order to be confident in cutting a human open! They are the expert in surgery...YOU are the expert in you. 400 calories per day is a scary small amount IMO. My usual Protein shake is 160 calories, I can't imagine only consuming two of those per day. If you're not taking in enough calories you won't be burning any either. Your body will shut down all non-essential operations and wait for the famine to pass. I know it's counterintuitive to eat more...but by golly eat more!
