I work at Fort Bend ISD in Houston. We have United Healthcare Ins. Our policy totally excludes WLS and cosmetic surgery. I had to self-pay to get my band done on April 27th.

Hi everybody! I've made it 3 days out of surgery. I'm feeling pretty good. Ran some errands today with no ill effects. Will try to go back to work Tuesday...light duty. I have a question...when I drink or eat (mushies) I have to burp right away and it's a little uncomfortable. Like pressure in my stomach. Is that normal? I eat slow and when I drink I take small sips. Any suggestions?

Kacee, I was just banded on April 27, 2007 in Houston by Dr. Spivak and had no problem with nausea. I had a little left shoulder pain the day after, but none since. I feel pretty good today (4-29). Not ready for the Boston marathon, but feel good.

Stephanie, I was just banded by Dr. Spivak on 4-27-07. When I went to his Sat seminar (3-17-07)he suggested the bypass for me. I did not want my digestive tract rerouted and the fear of complications, post-surgery or way down the road, made me chose the Lap-Band. He told me to lose 10#, get some blood work done and scheduled my surgery for 4-27-07. I have high bp and one functioning kidney. I was also a self-pay because my insurance excludes any type of gastric surgery for weight loss. Dr. Spivak is wonderful. You can't go wrong with him.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Hi Everybody. My Lap-Band surgery went fine. I'm sore and feel real blah, but I'm ok. Any words of wisdom? -
JosieB... My banding will be at Park Plaza Hospital. This is real exciting, but also scarey. Food has been my best friend for so long. I know I can lose weight...I lost 100# dancing with Richard Simmons. Then I fell in "love" and gained all my weight back plus some. Dating is bad for diets...lol I'll keep ya posted on my progress.

One more question... Do any of you live in the Clear Lake area? I'm in Webster and would like to carpool to the Tuesday meetings if possible. Thanks...

Hi! I'm a new patient of Dr. Spivak's. My surgery is scheduled for this Friday (4-27-07). I'm getting a little nervous. Why are we asked to bring a pillow to the surgery center?

Thanks for the info...Friday is coming at me fast and I'm getting a little nervous. I haven't had surgery since I was in the 5th grade and I just turned 48...Oh my! All advice is still welcome. -

What can you tell me about recovery from surgery? I know about the gas pain, suture pain, etc...Anything else I should know? -

Hi everyone! My name is Debra and I will be banded this Friday (April 27, 2007) by Dr. Spivak in Houston. I am 5'7", 400# with a BMI = 60. I have been overweight all my life. At 48 years old my health went to hell this year. I have high bp, bad knees, have had stress fractures in both feet, have one functional kidney and retain fluid which causes me to have breathing problems. My bp is under control and my other issues should improve with weightloss. The kidney thing is another issue, but a proper diet will keep it healthy. I'm excited about this new journey in my life and am looking forward to making new friends. Your super-sized banster thread is a great inspiration...:girl_hug:
