June 25th Sleevers? I need a buddy...
2notbwinded replied to pinkeeez83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have the same full feeling like pre op anymore (kinda miss it, messed up huh?). Anyway, I did serve myself an extra ounce of cottage cheese. Thinking that its simply ridiculous that I can't get this protein in. Well, I ate maybe .5 ounce before the not-so-full feeling turned to just nausea.... Ugh. Never again, you'd think right? Nope, I accidentally did it this morning. I chose not to measure and just eat till I felt full, but since I didn't know when to stop I went straight to nauseous again. It seems I learn like Homer Simpson! Edit: I should add that the other day I went to a restaurant with the family & since I couldn't order anything else I had the wonton soup without the wontons. Gave away 2 small servings (my kids) and proceeded to sip the entire meal. I didn't want to have nothing to do so I kept sipping. When it was time to go I stood up and I could feel all that liquid sloshing inside or something. It was the first uncomfortably full feeling I've had. About 30 minutes of waking later I felt better. Full relief came after a bathroom break (TMI sorry). -
Cold water hurt... but just water not other cold liquids. Warm liquids are heaven! I can fit more warm liquids than cold.

Really! My new tummy can't handle anything substancial! Everything stays down, and for that I'm very grateful. Still, everything feels like swallowed a rock. And that's a good meal when the food doesn't make me downright nauseous. The only thing that's working is warm thin liquids that don't have Protein. But that can't sustain me for much longer. I have my first post op visit with my surgeon this wednesday so hopefully we can come up with a solution. I'd rather sacrifice speed of weight loss at this time than worry about not being able to care for my children properly. They're home all day now and I made them take a nap today just so I could!!! LOL I keep thinking I can't wait till I got this down... but I suspect that'll happen right before I'm approved for solids and I'll have to readjust yet again!

4 days post op liquid diet sucks..any ideas from anyone!

I can't find sugar free pops in my area at all. So I got Powerade Zero, which I normally can't stand cuz of the artificial sweetner, and froze it in little plastic cups and then flipped it over... It turned out to be awesome cuz it paces my swallowing and it's too big for my to accidently bite and swallow a big piece. That happened with an ice chip at the hospital... hurt like a b***h. Also, the taste improved once frozen... -

Awesome! By the time we're cleared for exercise I'll be living in Kennsington. It's closer to the park so that'll be perfect!!! In the meantime keep in touch and good luck on your surgery!!! -

June 25th Sleevers? I need a buddy...

I went to pride parade yesterday. We did lots of walking and some dancing. (even though everyone says I should've skipped it this year) Still, now my belly button incision ITCHES LIKE CRAZY!!! Is anyone's incisions itching a whole lot? I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago and don't remember this much itching around my incisions.... I hope I didn't hurt it. Also the area around it is kinda hard to the touch. I don't want to scratch it and make it worse but it's driving me crazy! -

My new need: wonton soup broth! who new? goes down easy & doc says fine. -
I'm like hurting for you guys... Pepcid will kill the hunger-like feeling. Today I switched to Pepcid complete chewable since getting down the pill wasn't really working for me. I only needed to morning dose and not one acid rumble all day! Please try it. If you're scared speak with your surgeon, but it was among the list of things I should take so I don't feel weird suggesting it... I was there. Surgery on June 24 & no hunger at the hospital (they were administering pepcid in the IV) came home & hunger gallore! Because of what i'd read in another thread I knew I needed my acid reducer... Now problem solved Don't torture yourselves!

Awesome... I need a recipe that will settle easily...

For of you that are on liquids: My dr. had approved me for mushies if I can tolerate them... I soooo can't, not comfortably anyway. Today I've stayed on liquids. Hot liquids are better. The mushies i'd eaten I couldn't get in more than 1.5 oz max! My sleeve was swollen when I left the hospital so that may account for the tightness. but today has been my most comfortable day! Just on Powerade Zero, the broth from Wonton Soup, and lemon water! In fact had so much broth at the restaurant (to fit in, somewhat, I guess) That I briefly was scared, but we walked around and all the liquids settled and I was fine. Don't rush to mushies... It's not all that!

I called my surgeon's office they weren't much help... Someone in another thread suggested warm liquids which seemed counterintuitive in the summertime, but REALLY works! I can 'fit' more warm liquids at a time than cold (which hurt!) Thanks to EVERYONE. I know it's an adjustment. I just didn't know how tricky an adjustment it would be. The gas is sorting itself little by little probably cause I'm taking like 4 gasx tablets a day for it. Caaattt: I'm in Park Slope, Brooklyn... Are you close? I'm looking for a workout buddy for when I'm cleared for exercise! -
So I've been meaning to ask this question, yet every time I go to my surgeon's office I forget! My Soup dilemma. I love chunky meaty Soups. I'm ok without the carby starchy veggies, but can we eat the meats and broth if we can't drink and eat? Also, right now I'm still on puree stage. Could I puree both liquid and meat? I'm guessing I can so my question I guess is more geared for when I'm further out. To elaborate, and maybe TMI, I'm hispanic and I  LOVE mondongo (beef tripe soup) .<--- No Judging! It's high in Protein, not fattening (w/careful preparation) and can be made without starches without sacrificing much taste. If anyone else has had experience with this food post op please share.... I will, of course, experiment. Still, I'd rather save myself the trouble of having a bad episode, if that's the case. Please share experiences with other soups as well, as I can't imagine them being much different.

Soup post op...

i'll see about the emailing... didn't think of that... -
Are you sure it's hunger? I thought it was hunger too, but it's not. I was confusing gas & acid with hunger. I had read about this before surgery so I knew to be wary of it. Take the acid reducer RELIGIOUSLY and it's starts to go away. I've noticed now that when gas gets too close to the sleeve area it feels like hunger. If I make myself burp it goes away. I also noticed early on that I ate to max capacity, yet still felt hunger-like rumblings. Coupled with what I had read before, I suspected it couldn't be hunger.

So far I've basically pureed whatever I cook for the family... Although yesterday they had turkey burgers and I pureed it and it was too dry so I added dijon and mayo... Not gonna do that again and today they want fish and I'm sooo not pureeing fish! I want to try a meatball with sauce and ricotta and some parm. I've heard it tastes just like lassagna when pureed. I've had hummus but I made too much and now i'm sick of it... I really want some avocado but I don't want to wast most of it... can use some more ideas as well
-
My paperwork does say 2 to 3 oz but I can only get in about 1.5 oz (3tbsp) max of puree foods if that and I'm really struggling to get in enough liquids and protein... I envy you!!!

I feel I can't get in enough Water... In fact I think I may be dehydrating fast! It's really hot here in NY and I can only get about 2 or 3 oz in before my stomach hurts. today I have diarrhea, my limbs are tingling and slight muscle spasms all signs of dehydration.... Not sure what to do... it's saturday so surgeons office is closed... And the gas won't go but that's now lower in my priority list... -
On Week 3 Post Op. Need some help!
2notbwinded replied to hfdwife0608's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I eat from ounce cups still but i'm supposed to stay on mushies for 4-6 weeks. This was today's meals: 1oz of hummus 1oz of yogurt (tomorrow I'll switch these. I was craving salty in the am cuz fam was eating bacon) 1oz of ground turkey with mayo and dijon I get the quantities will increase with time but I can't imagine the food will. I'm not very picky so far I've also had pureed chicken cacciatore. I'm looking forward to an avocado, but being the only person who likes it in the fam I don't want to waste it and i'm saving it for when my quantities increase. Hope this helps bring it back to basics. Oh, & today I nearly yanked and gobbled a ritz cracker from my 5yr old, so nope, no judgement here! -
June 25th Sleevers? I need a buddy...
2notbwinded replied to pinkeeez83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved June 24 & I was told I could crush pills or cut them into 4 pieces... Crushed was way too nasty for me! I've been cutting them into for but today I've been able to take bigger sips of water (like half ounce sips) so I figured I'd cut the acid reducer in half. You know, half the hassle, right? DON'T DO THAT I have been dealing with a stuck (half) pill for like an hour now & i'm so scared of ending up face first in the toilet! Well, that's my intro to this thread. A cautionary tale. On the bright side 20lbs gone since I started pre op diet. <-- this mantra keeps me from trying to reach into my throat and dislodge the damn thing! -
What are you doing week 1 post op?
2notbwinded replied to artymama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah! Too good, you're putting me to shame!!! Day 4 and I managed to clean up for company (BF is just another kid around here, actually had more help from my 4 yr old). I was really proud of my couple trips to the deli (like a block away) & now battling with a stuck pill that I stubbornly only cut in 2 rather than four pieces. I'm hoping like hell that losing the battle doesn't mean facetime with my toilet! (didn't get around to scrub that today!) -
Came home with a new sleeve & a bad cold!
2notbwinded replied to 2notbwinded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've chosen to not do the cold meds. I just got my prescribed Percocet & I'm thinking of taking it. A bit scared that it might make me nauseous. But if it will knock me out it may be worth it. ??? -

My throat is sore & my nose is stuffed. At least my body knows better than to sneeze right about now! Normally I'd drink lots if soup, orange juice and take some cold meds. Can I still do that? Orange juice is high in sugar. I'm having soup now, how about the cold meds? -

My nose is stuffy & phlegm infested. Plus my kids are sick as well. I think I was about to get a cold & surgery lowered my immune system so I got it sooner. Just a guess. -
I feel horrible. But I'm really thankful everything has gone well & hopefully I be going home today.
