I Dont Feel Any Different
grannyk replied to neeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your don't feel "different" because you are really not that different. If you don't have complications, it is hard to tell from the outside that you have had anything done. You don't feel full because the liquids just flow right on through. Be glad that you don't feel that different now, stick with your post-op diet (it won't last forever event though it may feel that way), and when you start eating more solid food, that's when you will feel the difference. You are in the first few days of a lifelong journey. Enjoy the ride to the new you...Kathe -
Help I Don't Want To Eat Or Drink
grannyk replied to sperry71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about mixing a scoop and a half in 8 oz milk, instead of just one scoop? That would be at least 30 gms + what is in the milk in one shake. Is that not allowed? I used to do that for breakfast, so I started off the day with more than 1/2 of my protein in before I got to work. Kathe -
OK...these area great!!!! I used a tin for extra large muffins, 6 instead of 12 per baking tin. I shared one with my great grandson, my sleeved daughter ate one and my granddaughter ate two. These are just as good as any lasagna I've eaten in a restaurant. The wonton wrappers are thinner than regular noodles and seem to set up better than any of my other attempts. I used four total wontons in each cup. I layered them wonton, ricotta, wonton, meat sauce, a little mozzarella, wonton, ricotta, wonton, sauce, mozzarella. There are 15 carbs in four wontons, so that is not too bad for a meal. All the rest of the ingredients are Protein except for the prepared sauce. I am not heavy into carb counting. I keep it as low as I can, but don't obsess over them. I am a proponent of all things in moderation. Our bodies need some carbs, so this will be one of my allowable carb sources. So good and so easy!! If you like Italian, this is a must-have in the recipe file...Kathe

3 Years Or More Post Op...memory Changes?
grannyk replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What was the question????? Kathe -
Thanks so much for this info. I miss fruit and it is nice to know I can have some berries and especially clementines. I bookmarked this for future reference. Kathe

Vampsy, I think you should tell the surgeon about Bedhead's post, maybe even print it out and take it with you so they will at least consider the repair instead of the revision. I do hope they will be able to repair the problem. God bless...Kathe

Condessa, I wouldn't worry too much about the supplements at this point. In a couple of weeks you will be able to do better. I have never taken Iron, which is very hard on your stomach and causes a lot of constipation. That would be the last thing I took as a supplement and then only if you were testing anemic. I started with liquid and under-the-tongue Vitamins. Now I take 11 pills in the morning and four at night in one swallow. It will all come together. Right now, concentrate on your Protein and Water and everything else will follow. I am a year out now. Since about 2-3 months out, I have been taking a Multivitamin, calcium + vit D twice a day, B complex, Biotin, Vitamin D liquid every other day, krill oil, and omega-3 fish oil. My lab work has always been perfect. My hair started falling out about 4-5 months out and then started coming back in about 9-10 months out. If your hair is going to fall out, it will fall out. It is not permanent and doesn't happen to everyone. My daughter didn't lose a single extra hair after her sleeve, but I thinned out some. Try not to obsess over everything. It will just make you miserable needlessly. Good luck, Kathe

I was on clears for 10 days, full liquids for 10 days (that's almost 3 weeks) and then to mushies. I too am not sure why your post-op diet is so strict. I doubt it would hurt you to start cream soups and things like that. I think as long as you can pull it through a straw, you should be OK. Thinking back now, I can hardly remember what it was like those first few weeks post-op. Try to distract yourself with whatever you can find, reading, gardening, whatever you like to do. I work full time and went back after one week, so I really didn't have time to fret over it. Everyone at work knew about my surgery and they were all very supportive and encouraging. I hope this post-op time passes quickly for you. Before you realize, it will be a distant memory and worth the trouble. Chin up!! Kathe

Laura, not to worry. I love to chug Water too. I am a year out now, and I just started by taking sips, drinks, then chuglettes, one chug, two chugs...you see the pattern. Usually four good drinks and my need to chug is satisfied. In the mornings while I am getting ready for work, I keep a 16-oz glass of water on my bathroom vanity and I have a 16-oz mug of hot tea (decaf). By the time I leave for work I have finished the glass of water (I take a total of 11 pills in the morning, usually in one swallow) and most of my tea. Then at work I have a 20-oz mug. I always have at least one of those and usually two during working hours. Then more meds at night. I have no trouble getting in all my fluids daily. I know we are all different, but if you really like your H2O, I'm sure you will be able to gulp again one day. Water, etc, just goes right on through. I have never thrown up just water. The only problem I have is with food when I eat the wrong things or don't take enough time. You will find your way through all of the adjustments, trust me. Expect the best for yourself.. few complications, quick recovery, quick weight loss...and hopefully you will be one of us who has a good experience with the sleeve. My heart goes out to those on the forum with complications and difficult times. I know it a bad deal to go through those tough times. But I think you will be glad you made the decision to travel this road with us. When is your surgery and who is doing it? God speed and blessings on your journey. Keep us posted on your surgery date and progress...Kathe

What To Tell My Children?
grannyk replied to Estrovan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never lie to your kids!! I told a little white one when my daughter was 10 (she is now 34) about going to the movies with some friends one afternoon when I was supposed to be working, and she has never let me forget it. Of course, it is all in fun now. But still, never lie to your kids. I will come back to haunt you if you do. Just give her the very basics and maybe the older ones can help her deal with her anxiety. Good luck...Kathe -
Well, one year ago I was in Mexicali just beginning this life-changing journey. I have not yet met my goal, and I am 0.2 (!!!) lbs away from Onederland, but I would never go back. I am still confident that I am not through losing, but if this is as good as it gets, I can live with it for the rest of my life. I am confident it will be much better than if I had not had this surgery done. My blood pressure is very well controlled. I am still taking my med because my daughter doesn't want me to "take any chances". I am off all my diabetic medications and my fasting sugars in the morning are in the 70's and 80's. I have had to learn how to walk like a normal person, but it has really helped my self confidence. I encourage everyone thinking about getting sleeved not to let uncertainty and comments of outsiders cloud your decision making. Be bold and go for the gold. Love to all...Kathe

I suggest you shop on your own from now on, and get yourself some tasty recipes, girl...Kathe

Dr On My Case-No Punn Intended!
grannyk replied to monty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you going back to this loser of a doctor? It sounds to my like you are doing great...better than I have done. And I am perfectly happy with my progress. Is he your surgeon, bariatric doc, primary care? Find someone else who can encourage you along to greater success. Life is too short to deal with naysayers like this. Best wishes and tons of encouragement to you, monty. YOU ROCK!! Kathe -
What Do You Eat Now That You Didn't Eat Before Surgery?
grannyk replied to Lissa's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have always loved peanut butter. Pre-sleeve I always ate it with horrible guilt. Post-sleeve, I eat it with no guilt because it is a healthy protein. By the nature of my tool, I am limited on how much I can eat. There are several things I can enjoy now just because I can no longer gorge myself on them. God bless the sleeve!! Kathe -
What's My Start Weight?
grannyk replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I count every single pound I have lost from my highest weight. I have lost 104 total. I lost 40 prior to surgery from fall injuries and a long period of nauseating pain. Then I got sleeved and have lost 64 more. Just because I lost 40 before my surgery doesn't mean I didn't lose it!!! Yeah us!!! Kathe -
Rheumatoid Arthritis Or Other Autoimmune Disease / Problems
grannyk replied to Odee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know there is research regarding RA and ghrelin. It has something to do with the inflammatory process. And from my personal experience I have had no osteoarthritic pain since the first steps in took in the hall after my surgery. I know osteo and rheumatoid are nothing alike. You might do some internet research on ghrelin and see what you find. Good luck...Kathe -
I Just Had Gvs April 5. At Home Now And My Stomach Will Not Stop Growling?
grannyk replied to melissa65's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am one year out and my stomach still gurgles all the time. That's just the way it is. If anyone takes offense, they will just have to stay away from me. I wouldn't trade my sleeve for anything...Kathe -
Very, very interesting. All sleevers should read this. Although somewhat technical for the non-medical population of the forum, I think we should all be aware of the 6-year information and on the alert for the possibility of regaining some of the weight. Being aware may make us more vigilant about falling back into old habits. Thanks for the link, Lau12345...Kathe

Hormone Grehlin Also Responsible For Memory?
grannyk replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Google "grehlin" and you will find all sorts of interesting information. I researched this a lot post surgery, because from the very first walk in the hall at the hospital post op, my osteoarthritis has no longer been a problem. I took massive amounts of NSAIDS prior to surgery and was very concerned I would not be able to continue and would be in constant misery from my knee and ankle pain. Literally from the first time I put weight on my knees after surgery, I have had no arthritic pain. It is like a miracle. I am in my mid sixties, so I figure the memory will be going soon anyway!! (ha) But at least I will weight less and hurt less. KathePS I don't remember seeing anything about memory loss...K -
i"m afraid you won't find any banders on this site that were happy with it. Most of the banders here have been converted to sleeves. K

I would never have had WLS if not for the sleeve. Thank God for the sleeve!!! My life has totally changed for the better. Kathe

I bookmarked this link. It sounds delicious. I am just beginning to experiment with Indian spices and so far I love them. Thanks...Kathe

That seems like a lot of carbs for just 10 chips. Special K chips of all kinds have fewer carbs for a larger serving. Give those a try, too...K
