  1. How long ago was that? It sounds like he may have several issues. Is he overweight? Will he be losing his pig-out partner? Does he really prefer overweight women (there actually are men like that , I guess, although I cannot imagine why. I know I'm alone in the world, but fat bodies just aren't attractive to me.) I think it might be good for you to reevaluate your relationship. Sounds to me like it's a good thing he took his "baggage" and left. You will have your hands full taking care of yourself without coddling someone else too. Good luck!! Kathe

    Dumping sydrome

OK...even though you are not diabetic, those are the classic symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). I am diabetic and a registered nurse. I lost about 40 lbs before my sleeve due to a nasty fall with bad consequences. I had to cut my oral medication in half because I started having hypoglycemic episodes in the morning at work. The symptoms you indicate are exactly the same...profuse sweating, nausea, decreased wakefulness and with me an intense feeling of anxiety. This is from your sugar spiking and then dropping like a rock after you eat refined sugar or dense carbs. When that happens, you need to take in something with a little sugar in it to raise your blood sugar to stop the episode. It will probably take 10-15 minutes to feel better. Then don't eat those things again. Also, my daughter who was sleeved 7-1-10 and has lost 90 lbs (she was never diabetic) has the same reaction when she eats rice, refined sugar and pancakes. I took her blood sugar one time when she started feeling bad and it was 53. Gave her a bite of Peanut Butter and something else i can't remember and she was fine in a few minutes. Just start to be aware of the things that do this to you and avoid them. It is a horrible feeling, so I imagine you won't have a problem identifying them and avoiding them. Good luck, We are all in the learning process of how to live with our sleeves. What an adventure!! Kathe

    Bleeding???

Any rectal bleeding is worrisome, especially if you have been on anticoagulants. It may self correct when the blood thinners are out of your system, but you should definitely see your doctor just to be sure...Kathe
  4. Dr. Aceves sleeved both me (4-14-11) and my daughter (7-1-10) and we think he and his staff at Almater Hospital in Mexicali rock!! Check it out...Kathe
  5. WELCOME TO THE FORUM!! You will find lots of support and information here. See ya later...Kathe
  6. Mina, it will be OK!! You are not the only person in the world addicted to chocolate, trust me. Both my daughter and i are also "addicted" and we have both been sleeved. She has lost almost 100 lbs over the last 10 months at a very steady rate and I was sleeved 4-14-11 and have lost about 20 lbs. Once you have been sleeved, gone through all the post-op diet regimen and begin adding in regular foods as you tolerate, you will be able to occasionally a piece or two of Hershey's without irreparable damage. There are probably some on this site that will have fits if they read this, but it is OK. Don't despair or beat yourself up. This is all about taking the journey together and learning how to live a whole new life. It's all good!!! Kathe
  7. Welcome and congrats on making your decision even when your close friends try to sabotage. You will always find lots of empathy and encouragement here. Having your hubby in your corner is more than half the battle, so jump on this train and we'll make the journey together...Kathe
  8. I'm betting with all the good food and snacks you ate, it didn't even come near what you used to eat during a day at the beach. Don't castigate yourself, just take a deep breath and start using your handy dandy tool, that is your sleeve, to continue on your journey. Beating ourselves up doesn't help anything...it just beats up our self esteem. We are better now than we have ever been!! YEAH US!!

    UNEXPECTED SIDE EFFECT!?

We were there at the same time and didn't meet each other?? SHOOT!! I hope you found your experience there as great as mine. Oddly I watch the food Network all the time and have no problem, but that trip to the grocery was weird. Also, I started on full liquids today and had been so looking forward to it. All I added in was a container of baby food fruit (it was yummy) and I made whizzed up cheesy cauliflower soup. It was also delicious and my old brain said "I could eat the whole pot of soup", I took 3-4 sips and that was it. It still tasted good, I just didn't want any more. This will take getting used to. But that's a good thing, right?!?!?
  13. I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves one week ago (4-14-11) and have had a very smooth post-op course...no pain (except CO2 residual for 3 days), no nausea, no diarrhea. My daughter was basically the same when she was sleeved last summer. I have been out running some errands that last 2 days, and have then rested well. However, this evening I went grocery shopping with her and walking the aisles looking at all the food made me nauseous. Not enough to hurl, but uncomfortable. I will be starting full liquids on Saturday and stocked up on a few things I can add to my intake. I really hope this doesn't continue very long because I love to cook and am looking forward to trying some of the recipes on the forum. Just didn't expect that to happen...that's all!!

    New here. Hi!

Hi and welcome!! You will find lots of wonderful people and good advice on this forum. I was sleeved on 4-14-11 and already feel the best I've felt in 20 years. You won't be sorry. If you start to get discouraged or scared, just come here for encouragement. Kathe
  15. I hope everyone doesn't hate me, but I''m on day 9 of clears since my surgery and I can't believe it has gone by so fast. I will start full liquids tomorrow. I will be glad to have a little more substance, but I have felt fine. The only time I was nauseated was when I went shopping with my daughter. I think some people on the forum who feel bad do not get enough protein during the clear stage. I have been getting 60-80 grams of protein daily by mixing GNC Whey Protein chocolate flavor in water. I mix one & 1/2 scoops instead of one for a little richer taste, but it tastes pretty darn good when it your only source of protein. I feel for those who are having a difficult time getting through the first few weeks. It is just like when I dieted in the past and the people around me were eating all my favorites while I was depriving myself. Just think ahead to the time when we can have almost anything we want because we can only have a limited amount. We will survive!!!!
  16. I was sleeved on 4-14-11 so am not having to deal with the yet. I get to start full liquids tomorrow!!! However, my daughter was sleeved on 7-1-10 and has lost 90 lbs to date. She is a carb watcher, so when she eats something like chicken nuggets or strips or anything breaded, she will take the breading off and eat maybe one small bite of breading to three bites of chicken. That way she is concentrating on her protein intake but getting a little of the breading flavor along with the meat. You might give that a try. I look forward to the day

    Acid

I am 8 days out from being sleeved and my surgeon requires 3 months of Nexium post-op. A highly acid tummy is expected with this surgery, and we have to do something to decrease the acidity or severe complications could result, from my understanding. You need some kind of acid inhibitor. Nexium is expense, but Prilosec over the counter should be just fine. Keep us posted on your progress...Kathe

    Frustrated!!!!

Sounds to me like you are not eating enough. Just 1/4 cup for each meal and water? Are you getting Proteins in from supplement? If you are not getting enough nutrition and calories, your body will hang onto every thing it has to stay alive. Certainly it sounds like you need more Protein and mostly likely more calories. Keep track of your intake to make sure you are getting enough nutrition. Keep us posted. By the way, I am one week out from surgery today and still on Clear liquids...can't wait until I can chew on something!!! 10 lbs in a week and a half...I'll be thrilled if I've lost 10 lbs when I go back to work on Monday and weigh myself (no scales at home; work in a clinic where there are scales in every room!!)

    Depression

Don't be so hard on yourself, Momma. The thoughts you are expressing here are the kind of thoughts that brought us all to the place where we needed the sleeve to help save ourselves from ourselves. You are already under stress related to another surgery. Just take it easy for now, do the best you can, get sleeved and move on down the pike. Best wishes...Kathe
  20. Just listen to Tiffykins and Rootman. Vitamins are very important in maintaining health. If you don't like taking pills or they won't go down, that is no excuse. There are several different delivery systems (to get them into your body...not in the mail!!! ). This is one of the most important things you will do for yourself. Time to put on your big person panties and take good care of yourself. Kathe

    Haupia

This sounds awesome. I can probably have this on full liquids when I start next Sunday. And my sleeved daughter loves the taste of coconut, but not the texture. I will try this next weekend. Thanks...Kathe
