Oh Boy. This Could Get Ugly.
KellyL replied to Bedhead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear you're in the hospital, please keep us updated. (null) -
I've seen it questioned and discussed and various peoples surgeons opinions on it, but I don't know what the truth is. I have seen Dr's say both ways too. I just try to under eat my sleeve and hope i keep the restriction forever. We naturally have a little more room as the swelling goes down between 4-6 wks. But after that, I don't know how much or how easy it would stretch.

Not Sure If Surgery Worked?
KellyL replied to MrsSweny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow....seriously?? That's a good bit of food at 5 days post op, and just because you didn't feel anything, doesn't mean anything. The reason we are put on a post op diet is because the stomach is not healed and a lot of nerves in our stomachs have been cut and we might not feel the correct "full signals" like we should which tells us to stop eating. In the case of a newly cut stomach and a staple line, this is VERY dangerous, and you are putting yourself at an unnecessary risk with this behavior. You are already at a risk of a leak post op with this surgery, but eating too soon and too much is really pushing your luck. I hope you're ok. I would watch my temperature closely if I were you and contact your Dr with any fever or abdominal pain or extreme left shoulder pain. I am very concerned for your safety. -

When People (Friends, family ,relatives ) Think You Took The "easy Way" With Wls ( Rant)
KellyL replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah that person wasn't really your friend and she proved it. Real friends don't act jealous because we are trying to become healthier and improve our lives. I have found a lot of some people will keep others around and call them friend, when in actuality, they want to hang around us to make themselves feel more __________ (fill in the blank with prettier, smarter, sexier, skinnier, richer, etc). When something like this threatens them and their little world, they just can't handle it. They lose it, and show their true colors. Don't feel bad, it's not your fault she was so selfish. And the Facebook status also proved she is very immature. -

10 Months Out From Sleeve, Struggling Just A Little.
KellyL replied to MsCarly's topic in Food and Nutrition
The only protein shake I like are the ready to drink Atkins ones, they don't have that gross protein taste. I like the flavors with coffee in them, the Cafe Caramel and Mocha Latte, and also the vanilla is good. I use them for sweet treats. The tubs of powder protein I have tried at different times, immediately post op and also this past wk, I still hate the protein taste in them. I like the pure protein protein bars, just the chocolate peanut butter ones. -
Should I Wait The Six Months Or Get A Loan And Go To Mexico?
KellyL replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hmmm difficult decision indeed, but I would get Insurance to cover it if possible. Not just due to the money, but the post op care you could get Insurance to cover if the unforeseen happened and you had any problems or complications. Of course, waiting does suck. And are you sure that your insurance will cover the actual Sleeve? Some people go through the 6 month wait and supervised physician diet, only to find out they only have the option of getting the RNY or Band, cause they don't cover the Sleeve. Then there's all the many other hoops to jump through such as Psych evaluation, sleep study, nutritionist, Stress test, not all Dr's have you do all tests, but most do some or all. So you may not get your surgery at the end of the 6 month wait if you also then have to schedule a bunch of different other appts. There's a lot to consider, I know I didn't help you much here, lol. Good luck on your decision! -
I think you can order them on their website or amazon or vitacost.

Congrats on being sleeved!! It sounds rough right now and horrible that you aren't getting to eat or drink, but hang in there, it's going to get better!! I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Start Of A Bad Morning
KellyL replied to PreciousCargo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are having a rough time! I would definitely focus on fluids to see if that helps. There's the G2 that is Gatorade but no or less sugar that you can look into. I'm glad you are going to start getting your vitamins in. I didn't think we had dumping syndrome as Sleevers, that is more of a Bypasser issue, but she probably deals with them more often. I hope you feel better soon!! -
I had thrush/yeast on my tongue. I had been sick right before surgery and on antibiotics, then had antibiotics in my IV and post op also. I ate a lot of yogurt drank those little Dan Activ liquid yogurts and took probiotics. It went away over a wk or two. Depending on your symptoms, you may have to have meds for it.

KellyL replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know they sound so good! That's one I want to try to. Someone posted if you microwave for a few seconds it makes them even better so if you taste and it's just so so, try the microwave. Oh, and let me know what you think about them please. -

I am using the Pure Protein chocolate Peanut Butter right now, and they are ok, sometimes I will spread a little almond or peanut butter on them. But I really want to try the Quest ones I keep reading about, they don't have as many net carbs or sugar alcohol. I just don't know which flavor I want to order. -

6 Weeks Post-Op And Regretting The Surgery
KellyL replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear about the nausea, I have seen a few people have this problem. I too suggest trying a different PPI and you may have to double dose til you find relief. The reason I think it may be acid is because you get a little relief when you eat then it starts up again a little later. Also, you may need to be tested for H.Pylori if you haven't already. I know you're miserable, but don't give up!! I hope you get better soon. -

Oh wow, congrats!!! I know you're so excited and happy. I hope you have a really easy surgery and speedy recovery! Please update us as soon as you feel up to it. Take Care! -
That makes total sense, I don't suppose you are blaming him if you are considering going back. I know it must be very upsetting and frustrating. First the Band, now you're having trouble with your Sleeve. You're right, it could very well have been scar tissue that determined your sleeve size. I know it must be disheartening. I commend you for not giving up completely and doing everything you have to do to reach your goals of becoming healthier. You are a very strong and determined person. Please keep us updated on your situation and what you decide to do.

It's so weird how not only is my body changing, but my mind is. Because I used to worry so much about how I would handle these questions too. And I DO order the water, just cuz it's free and i hate plain water so I'm not tempted to drink while i eat. But I haven't had too many questions or looks and the once or twice it's happened, I just answer whatever question with "I just need a to go box thank you and smile and look away. This nicely lets them know I don't want to be questioned, and I don't owe an explanation, and I am not about to offer one. It politely dismisses them before they can get too nosey or question. I used to think they asked questions because I had eaten so little and I am a big person, but now that I'm not as self conscious about my weight and I have more confidence, I realize they are asking because it's their job to push more food and sell more. They push appetizers, wine, desserts, etc because it's an upsale and they are required to do it, much like some dept stores require their check out cashiers to ask if you have a credit card and if you say no, they are required to ask if you want one. I kind of resent this too, it's no ones business if I have a credit card and if I wanted one I'd ask for an application hahaha. But my point is, a lot of times it's more about them doing their job than caring whether or not we eat all our food or how big we are.

Back After A Long Absence.. :)
KellyL replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tamz, Good to see you back, you look awesome!! Congrats on your success. The sweets or carbs can get out of control very easily. Once it happens, about the only way I have found to get it under control is to go back to basics, making sure you have plenty of hi protein snacks around for when the cravings kick in. I use protein bars and Atkins shakes for sweet treats, and keep plenty of grab quick foods available like almonds, pecans, pistachios, popsicles, pork skins, etc. And yes, I too sometimes am probably thirsty but think I'm hungry, so I have to make sure I drink so many oz of fluid before i allow a snack or have my meal. After the initial first couple of days it's not really hard anymore, you'll soon stop craving them again. Dehydration alone will also slow weight loss or even cause a stall. Good luck on getting back on track, and keep posting, it helps! -
Sweet Baby Jesus! A Miracle!
KellyL replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay! So glad you were able to get that protein in and hold it down. Things are indeed looking up for you, congrats!! Happy Birthday! -
:welcome: Hi, glad you found us too. What a great bunch of people and a lot of support and knowledge. You must be excited with your surgery coming up in Mar/Apr. It's nice to "meet" you.

You could try increasing the protein and fluids. I see a lot of the successful people saying they take in 80-100 grams of protein and 100 oz of water/fluid. It's difficult for me to get in that amt of fluid, but I shoot for as close as I can get. I can totally understand and relate to getting down and being jealous of those who've had Gastric Bypass seeming to lose faster. But my bro-in-law who had his Gastric Bypass a wk before my Sleeve has already been to the ER, in the hospital, with dehydration, kidney stones due to the fast weight loss, and now he's having to have some other tests done. I am still very happy I chose the Sleeve over the Gastric Bypass. Hang in there, and try not to compare yourself to anyone, this is YOUR journey, make the most of it.
