I'm sorry you had to go but so glad you did. You're right, a threat can't make it easier. You will be better off afterwards, and the swelling in your sleeve should start going down significantly at 4-6 wks. Then maybe getting fluids in will be easier. I hope you feel better soon sweetie.

Sorry to hear you are having problems moving to the next food phase. We all have swelling after getting Sleeved, others for longer than others. I think the swelling lasts 4-6 wks, and of course the healing goes on for a lot longer. So you may want to try really soft and really moist food, use plain greek yogurt to make dips for meats and such. If you are going to eat an scrambled egg, try to not cook it very done, so it's not dry. Cottage cheese is an excellent protein source, you can add a little cinnamon and stevia or splenda. Or even applesauce or something for flavor. Don't get discouraged, it just takes some time to learn what our sleeve likes, and to adjust to our new style of eating and how much we can eat. It's kind of natural, try not to stress and try a few bites at a time to see how your sleeve is going to react.

Gottago, I am not sure if Dr Kelly is certified in the US, but here's this info: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/10/prweb8910330.htm Also can you explain why ALighterMe still has Dr Kelly's pics and info on their website? -

Sleeved By Dr Ramos Kelly
KellyL replied to mrsknoel29's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats on being sleeved!! How did they determine your BMI was higher than 48? Did they check your height? Good luck to you on an easy and speedy recovery! -
You could clip it closer to your skin if it's aggravating you. Mine were the dis-solvable kind, so you are ok if your Dr didn't tell you to come back in to have stitches removed.

Another "should I Be Able To Eat This"? Post :)
KellyL replied to LoserMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about the other stuff, but I know I've always been able to eat a good bit of cottage cheese too, so I try to be careful with it. But it's really moist and not as dense as chicken, tuna, etc. -
Happy Valentines my sweetheart sleevers!!!! I think I am gonna celebrate with an Atkins Chocolate Protein Shake lol <3

No Weight Loss Since Surgery
KellyL replied to Anakin Jay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your Dr is ok with your weight loss so far, then I think you're fine. 30 lbs is a good chunk of weight loss and those of us who lose some before surgery sometimes lose a little slower, because we don't have the big drop after surgery. That may have started your 3 wk stall a little early? Your body is catching up right now, and you could be losing inches. Patience is the hardest part of this, I always say I think my patience lived in the part of my tummy that was removed haha. Hang in there! -
Does The Gastric Sleeve Work?
KellyL replied to Optima's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
As others have said, any WLS is a tool and works if you use it properly. The Sleeve makes our tummy MUCH more smaller than it is, but it also removes the ghrelin hormone which causes hunger. You definitely have to be compliant with getting in your protein and lowering the sugar and carbs, but the sleeve helps extremely with portion control. You're still in control of what you put in your mouth though, so it takes work and commitment. -
I Cant Believe I Got Food Stuck. What Did U Do?
KellyL replied to Kareforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't ever had that! But I always use food lube lol. I never eat anything real dry. In your case, perhaps there's still a lot of swelling? When you say you went off your diet 1 wk early, do you mean you moved from liquids to mushies? I would be careful about this unless you have your Dr's approval. Not just because of this issue, but your staple line needs to heal. I hope you get past the pain soon. -
Help! Everyones Telling Me Not To Go To Mexico, That Its Too Dangerous!
KellyL replied to Rachael Torres's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Dr's in Tijuana and most other places in MX drive you everywhere you go. I just wouldn't suggest going off by yourself anywhere, because you wouldn't know the most dangerous areas. But I felt completely safe and I saw no signs whatsoever of violence. I did see a run down area driving to the other hospital and hotel, but if I went to a lot of downtown areas, even here in Alabama, I would find rough areas too. But if you are talking about your friends, family, and co-workers telling you not to go, then yes, I am sure it sounds like the craziest thing in the world. But there is a huge Medical Tourism business and they WANT to keep us safe, they want our money. So yes, be careful if you go, but thousands and thousands of people go there every yr for WLS and other medical and dental care and do just fine. -

3 Days Post Op And My Body Is Angry!
KellyL replied to Meredit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Hi, We all struggle with anxiety about having this surgery, or any surgery for that matter. I think it's rather natural to be nervous. I would just weight the pros and cons of having the surgery. Also make sure you have researched and are prepared for all the adjustments to make in your lifestyle. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by a long shot. I don't think age has anything to do with whether we get a leak or not. I have never heard of it having anything to do with it. Good luck!!
