GPS Update: Important new information
KellyL replied to DrWatkins's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Dr Watkins, It speaks volumes for your character that you bring your findings to this board. Thank you for updating us. I believe there is a member on here that experienced this, i remember reading and being shocked that she was pretty far post op. Like 6 months i think. Maybe she and others will post again because it's important for people to know. -

There is unflavered protein that you can put in anything. This might work good in V8 juice. One brand is Unjury. They also have a chicken soup flavor that some people like. It's Unjury also. You can find it online. -

I STILL SEE MYSELF AS FAT
KellyL replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Dramagirl, You are right, it can be very overwhelming! I think you are beginning at a great place if you are in therapy. These message boards are great for research and support, so you are off to a great start. I have heard the whole love yourself thing for most of my life. I didn't really get it. I would say, that's stupid, of course I love myself. Thats why I enjoyed letting myself indulge in the wrong foods or too much of the foods I love. I refused to "deprive" myself because I loved myself. That was how I thought. But now my thinking is, if I truly love myself, then. I shouldn't deprive myself of being healthy. I want to take better care of myself because that's what you do when you love someone else. You want to take care of them and you would not help them destroy their health. That's not to say for special occasions we shouldn't indulge in a treat now and then. But in todays society, there are so many special occasions and holidays. Everything we do revolves around food. It's difficult but that is where the sleeve can help. The portion control helps so much. -
unbelievable doctor visit

That was rude, unprofessional, and uncalled for. I would definitely report this to her superior. Even when you called her on it she didn't apologize to you, then proceeded to insult your surgery choice. It is apparent that office needs to do some updating to their education. When I was calling around my state looking for a dr who performed the sleeve, I had a nurse tell me that no they didn't do the Sleeve, when I said that I was pretty set on having the Sleeve, she replied: "it's not up to the patient which procedure they have, it's up to the dr". I said, "It's my body, not the drs, and I will live with my decsion for the rest of my life. So I will not be going with your dr. Your dr is not a skilled or trained to do the procedure that I feel comfortable with so of course he would recommend the RNY as best for me. No wonder so many folks go to Mexico! I mean of course it's the $ factor, but the attitude and patient treatment is so much better in Mexico. In my area, it's not just the drs and nurses, the office ppl have no customer service skills. On the contrary, they are rude and condescending most of the time. It's sad really. -
I STILL SEE MYSELF AS FAT
KellyL replied to sickofrollercoaster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are usually taught as children to be kind to others but there's never enough emphasis on being kind to ourselves. Particularly in dysfunctional families. During my wait to have surgery, I've done a lot of research as well as soul-searching. I am finding that at least for myself, self-esteem and self-worth play a big part in my weight issues. And it doesn't just affect my health and weight. It has negatively affected me in so many other areas of my life, such as relationships and how I allow others to treat me. So no matter what size I am or how much I weigh, I will always view myself as not skinny enough, not pretty enough, not good enough. At least until I change those recordings that have been embedded in my mind for so long. It's also interesting to read that the most beautiful and skinny women hate something about themselves. So it's not just the overweight women that do this. We have to accept and love ourselves for who we are, even with all our imperfections. It's easy to say it, but so difficult to actually do it. 5 days out...hard to drink!
KellyL replied to princessMD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are having problems with fluid intake! Congrats on the amazing weight loss in less tham a wk. All you can do is sip sip sip constantly. The cold popsicles may help with the swelling inside. It seems like i remember someone mentioning if they walk it helps the fluids move thru faster and make room for more. You should watch the color of your urine, if it starts getting darker its a possible sign of dehydration. You may have to go into the ER and get fluids thru IV. I hope it starts getting easier! Congrats on being sleeved! The worse part is over now, and it will only get better for you. Thanks for sharing your experience, I am looking at going with either Dr Rod or Dr Kelly. It's great they are managing your pain and nausea, I've heard the gas pain is the biggest problem. Hope you get to feeling better quickly! :hippie: Kelly -
That's incredible, you are doing a great job rocking that sleeve!! Congrats! :cheer2: Kelly

It's pretty amazing to me how personable Dr Kelly and some of the other Mexican surgeons are. So caring, and family-like treatment. The US drs could use some training from them on their bed side manner! Thanks so much for sharing this, i loved reading your experience. Congrats! Kelly

Amazing! Congrats!

I wonder if Dr Kelly charges extra if he finds a hiatal hernia during the surgery and repairs it? If anyone knows please respond. -
Here in Mexico with Dr. Kelly
KellyL replied to sadie_mo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does Dr Kelly not give meds for nausea? Nausea is a commom side effect of this surgery. I would want it controlled as much as the pain. Does anyone know if it's legal to take these meds with you to Mexico? Would probably need to be in liquid form. Oh, hello everyone, new to this site but not new to researching WLS or drs. I have been on OH for 6 yrs or so but mostly a chronic lurker. Thanks for sharing your info and experiences. So far i like the set up of this site since I am usually on my iphone reading. Thanks, Kelly
