We are our own worst enemy and critic! And yes the excess skin is our battle scars from our battle of the bulge lol. I am pre-op but about to get sleeved. My sis wanted me to research some plastic surgeon for her so I was viewing some of their before and after pics and it was kinda depressing that I know this will be my future. Pre-op I have this huge panni hanging low now, i can only imagine how horrible it will look post-op. What is the purpose of losing tons of weight to still have that?? So I am now preparing for post-op plastics and thinking of ways now to begin funding it.

10 Months Out and Having Trouble!
KellyL replied to Rebel*Cat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go back to basics. Protein first. Then healthy carbs. Measure what you eat if you still don't have or recognize your full signals. Be sure to continue the Prilosec or other acid meds cuz many report false hunger from acid. Most healthy eating plans involve some kind of carb restriction. Especially in regards to healthy carbs vs junk. Carbs. If you are eating most of your carbs in veggies, you shouldn't have trouble continuing to lose or maintain. The sleeve helps because if you follow the protein first rule, you aren't gonna be able to fit much else in and you should feel satisfied. As you said in your post, your diabetes has improved. You have lost weight. And you've done all that by not even being as strict as most. Imagine if you were really working your tool? And my opinion is no on a revision. Any of the wls require protein first to be successful. With the DS you would have to be sure to be 100% compliant on taking 10-20 vitamins a day, no exceptions, or you will have extreme health problems or even die. Even the ones who are taking them as they are suppose to sometimes have vitamin deficiencies. A lot of them have to have iron infusions via IV at a hospital on a reg basis. And if you think it's difficult for Sleevers to get all their protein in, the DSers have to get even more protein in -
So tired of eating the same thing daily! any help out there?
KellyL replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hear the lactose intolerance can just be temporary for some. You might try again off and on to see. A lot of folks really like cottage cheese or greek yogurts with sf puddings or sf syrups added. I know you can google low carb recipes and get a lot of hits or just adjust your old favorite recipes. Good luck! -
This is getting expensive

Wow you look great, congrats!!! -
I am not sure about the biopsy, but the hiatal hernia is common. Up to 85% of obese people have one and drs can usually repair at the same time they do the sleeve. I don't think it should prevent you from getting sleeved.

Why so few calories on maintenance?
KellyL replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly don't know the answer to this, but I don't think the same rules apply to those of us who have struggled with obesity. There's a reason one person can eat say 2000 calories and be thin but another person eating the same can become overweight. Is it Genes or metabolism? I am not sure. But thankfully we have the sleeve to help us. What sounds like a small amount of calories pre-op will be a lot post-op. I see where ppl have difficulty getting in enough calories due to lack of hunger, they are also busier living their lives, and food in general just isn't as important. I am pre-op and according to most weight loss sites and apps at my weight and height I should be able to lose 2 lbs a wk by keeping my calories at 1500. I started using this app because I had lost 30-35 lbs in Oct and Nov. But nothing since. I thought I was getting in to many or too few calories. Even after using the app and logging everything I eat I am still stuck. But I haven't let it get to me like in the past. I am getting sleeved soon so that should help. I am diabetic so I know this is affecting my rate of loss. -
Congrats!! It will get easier everyday, sip sip sip!

I have read a lot of people do seem to get weepy and hormonal. Something about estrogen being stored in our fat cells. And yes, you may notice low energy levels till you are able to get in more water and protein. People seem to feel much better when they get to the mushy stage. I am not sure about the spike in temp. Hope you're feeling good otherwise.

Stomach Churning/Twisting with every swallow
KellyL replied to double's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also read to try different temperature of liquids. Cold might cause spasms but room temp or warm might not. -
Congrats!! We will be sleeved around the same time and I too am going to Mexico!! I am going with Dr Kelly on 6/3. And also trying to work it out for my sis to go with me. We have lots in common!! I can't wait! :hippie:

I loved reading your story, it's so inspiring!!!!! Very impressive, you should be proud. I'm so very happy for you. -
Yeah this sounds like so much fun!! Also, and someone may have already mentioned this, but Cruises are fun and really seem reasonably priced if you look for deals. I would also absolutely LOVE to do this and get to meet everyone, but it's taking every penny I got to pay for surgery this yr. Maybe next time? We should totally make it an annual thing!!!

Please tell me I am not crazy
KellyL replied to Rekeca's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry, that truly does suck!!!! I have to agree with you on everything you said, cuz our weight does affect so many aspects of our lives, It affects our happiness, self-esteem, health, marriages, all relationships. And it can also be a vicious cycle, weight leads to depression, mobility problems, health problems, relationship problems, self esteem problems. This surgery could stop the cycle and improve so many areas of your ife. I don't really understand exactly what they are looking for in those evaluations. It kind of pisses me off that someone that doesn't even know you, talks to you for an hr, gets to decide the fate of you getting to have a life changing (and saving imo) surgery!!!!! I would not give up though!! Get another opinion, appeal it, whatever it takes if you have decided this is what you are going to do. This is just one example of jumping thru hoops insurance companies make people do to get this surgery. Don't let it get you down further, let it make you work harder. A lot of folks have gone thru similar things, so you are not alone. I never got to the psyche eval but I've had 3 different Ins Co deny me surgery due to exclusions to weight loss surgeries. Another Ins Co would have pd but only for lapband or RNY. I don't feel those surgeries are for me. And I had to cancel a surgery date due to no financing when I was trying to self pay a different time. So I know how frustrating this can be. Don't give up! -
Wow!! I seriously can't imagine a size 8 for me lol. That's so awesome, so happy for you!!!
