Discharged from hospital and back home
KellyL replied to Beadingnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to you!! Thanks for sharing your experience, I think I have a hiatal hernia that will be repaired also. So glad you have such a great dr, that makes a world of difference. Have a fast recovery!! -
Micki, it sounds like you are knowledgable of both procedures and have done your research. Don't settle for anything but what you feel is best for you. I've waited 7 yrs to get the VSG. I could of had the Band or RNY paid for by Ins but my instinct and intuition tells me the sleeve is for me. I am self paying to get it. Good luck on your decision!!

Protein/Calories Trackers...
KellyL replied to StacyS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Lose It on my iphone and it was a free app. You don't have to set up an acct to use it. But you can if you want to use it on your pc too. I have a lot of the other ones on my iphone too, but i like this one for the simplicity. I think the fat secret one has a barcode scanner and enters info from your foods which is cool too and it's a free app also. -
Day 2 of pre-op liquid diet! Not a happy camper!!
KellyL replied to happy2behere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are going thru this! I was just saying in another post that I dread this stage more than the post op. Read the other post titled late nite cravings during pre-op. It might be helpful. Stay strong you can do this!! -
dealing with late night cravings while on pre-op liquid diet
KellyL replied to apple-saucy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dread the pre-op more than the post-op and the post op is for a lot longer! I was gonna try to sleep thru pre-op diet lol. I think I will probably live on sf popsicles, strained eggdrop soup, broths, green tea, crystal light, sf jello, and I have this stuff I got at Walmart called Alpine Diet spiced hot apple cider. If i can stand the taste I am going to add unflavored protein powder in a lot of this stuff. And try to stay away from any social events that involve eating. Haha. When my family eats i don't wanna cook it or even smell it so dinner may have to be my walking time or nap time lol. Whatever it takes, I'ma do it!! :hippie: -
I agree that it's going ro happen, I am more concerned with going into surgery already having a problem so I am just trying to get myself and my hair in better shape before hand. I fully expect to lose from the anesthesia and rapid weight loss. But increase in protein has helped my regrowth pre-op. I just wanna insure it come back and stops at some point lol. Thanks for the link Tiffykins I will read it when I get on my netbook!! I have only seen 1 person in my 7 yrs research that lost a lot of hair and it did not come back in good but they had a DS, so i figure mal-absorption played a part in that possibly. But she still doesn't regret having wls and uses a lot of wigs and hats.

Trouble with Pre-Op weight loss
KellyL replied to Terrib's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost 35 lbs doing low carb no sugar, which to me is easier than the shakes. I know I will have to do liquids pre-op and post-op so I don't wanna do that until I just have to lol. It took but a few months to lose it and I've stalled for 4-5 months but hey, I'm not gaining. And I maintained thru the holidays without gaining which is a major accomplishment for me haha. I didn't feel deprived either. I actually feel like I've broke the stall now and maybe dropped a few more lbs but my battery went out on my scales, But I feel so much better already, can't wait til I lose more with the sleeve!!! Good luck to you!! -
Yes that is true, just chug it down and you have all that protein out of the way. I have seen the tropical punch at WalMart but not the Blueberry. I think I'd like the blueberry better. I need to get to GNC.

I am pre-op, but My hair has been thinning for yrs now. I've been concerned at the alarming rate it comes out. Of course while researching wls i read about the hairloss and got worried. But when I added a lot more Protein to my diet, just trying to lose weight on my own, I noticed a lot of regrowth. So I do think protein does something, at least for regrowth. I have now started taking Biotin pre-op to try to get a head start. I've heard of people using the bullets and if they tasted strong they would Water them down or add a little to a crystal light at a time. Spacing it out thru the day.

Wow, congrats!! You must feel great!!
-
Hi Mel!! Welcome! The sleeve is a lot different than that old stomach stapling they used to do, but I can understand your concern and caution. Everyone has to feel comfortable with their decision. I could of had Ins pay for the Band or RNY. But the sleeve is the only one I will consider. So I am self paying. Good luck and ask anything, theres lots of information and support here.

What was your price for Dr Kelly if you don't mind my asking? These coordinator wars are really getting brutal. And one min you are saying you were happy with your care but at the end you are recommending your coordinator but a different surgeon? This is all confusing and it really isn't fair to turn these reviews of these drs who we are putting our lives into their hands, and making it about the other ppl. I guess Dr Kelly has his reasons for having more than 1 coordinator but wow. I hope it don't end up causing ppl to question his skills as a surgeon. It certainly is causing me concern and questioning the integrity and sincerity of the coordinators and to be honest some posts that I've read recently. I understand we get the price we do because of the hospital he uses because it's not brand new or fancy. But I've heard it is very clean, and I prefer the price over a newer facility. I want excellent care and cleanliness. This is the first I've heard of him "losing priviledges". Why and how could that happen with so many positive experiences posted all the time?? And to be honest, I find your "typical mexican" comment very offensive!! You didn't mind going to Mexico for your surgery or using a MX dr, when it benefits you, but when you're offered a nicer luxury hotel for an incredibly fair price you insult them. I am just not understanding this at all. There are a lot of accusations and insinuations in this post and it's your first post. Very suspicious....

HONESTY, GUILT AND SUBMISSION
KellyL replied to TEXAS DIVA's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I'm so sorry things are so rough for you right now. I can we can all relate on a certain level I mean we're all possibly at different stages, and perhaps even slightly different procedures, but we are all here for the same reason. We're trying to lose weight and become healthy. You have the support of this board always, and if this continues you may want to seek counseling. I think OA overeaters anonymous is still around and it used to be free, but i haven't checked on it in a while. The first thing I would do is remove all temptations. And understand these emotions you are feeling is common for this soon post-op. Your hormones are likely imbalanced right now. It takes time to adjust. Try not to be so hard on yourself.
