  1. Hey Sleeve Sista!! I am doing good, feeling real good so far. How are you doing? I've lost 8 lbs in a wk!

  2. Congrats on your decision, I'm so happy for you! I think you have a great dr who knows what he's talking about. I did not have the band, but I've seen so many people have problems. It's a great idea to revise before the more serious problems even start. In the comparisons from people who have had both, all seem much happier with the sleeve. Good luck and keep us posted!
  3. Down another lb this morning, so total loss of 5 lbs a day short of a wk since surgery. I'm lovin it! And I ain't talkin bout McDonalds lol

  4. ybnormal: I had the bad gas immediately after surgery, but that was the worse day. I still have it now 6 days post op but it's mild and mostly under my left shoulder blade. I am still using the Gas-X, Acid-reducer, and walking, and expelling it as much as possible. Thankfully I am only around close family and not at work or anything haha. I have truly felt great and had an easy time of it, so I am not sure why so many of us are different wiith this, but my healing has felt easier and faster than I expected. I am scared I am actually gonna forget I even had sleeve surgery and do something stupid and hurt myself. I don't feel limited on doing anything except lifting stuff. Well, and of course the eating, but I haven't had hardly any hunger either. I truly think the PPI acid reducer is the key to a lot of problems. I encourage everyone to take them.
  5. Awesome nsv's!! Congrats on your success and I'm sure you will continue to add to that list!
  6. I was sent home with omeprazole from my dr before leaving Mexico with instructions to take 2 at bedtime to protect the tummy. I was also taking 1 in the morning but am about to drop that dose. It is known to prevent nausea and "fake" hunger pains. I think they usually recommend it for up to 6 months if needed. It makes a huge difference. I'm glad you got some and that it's helping!!!

    BEYOND ANGRY!!!

I am so glad things went well with the procedure and now maybe no more bad surprises for you!! You were very upset and had every reason to vent/rant. You have had sleeve problems, non-supportive co-workers/boss, and it looks like you are also trying to plan a wedding?? No wonder you blew a gasket, you were completely entitled to those feelings. I plan on being more open and verbal about my feelings on things now, because I know I have spent the most part of my life holding things inside, and trying to make sure everyone around me was happy, and I didn't offend anyone. I am a people pleaser, and thought that was the right thing to do. I cared more about other peoples feelings than my own. I now realize that it was low self esteem that contributed to that, as well as contributed to my being overweight. So I have warned people I may be emotional and even bi*chy at times, and they need to deal with it and get used to it. My sister jokingly said, well at least you will be a skinny b*tch!!! haha. We had a good laugh with that one. So yeah, they were warned. I hope things get better everyday for you, and you come to love your sleeve and your journey. We are all here to listen to the joys and pains and give each other support. I really like this forum.
  9. Barb, congrats on the 2 lbs, you're doing great. I think it's wise to do the measuring tape and/or trying smaller sizes of clothes to measure our success and not get caught up in the scale and pounds as much. That is my plan also. I have seen so many people get so upset and even depressed over the scale not moving at all or fast enough. While I can totally relate and understand, I just have too much weight to lose and a long journey and I don't want the scale to control my emotions, yanno? That is exactly what would sabotage me pre-surgery when I dieted, and would cause me to just say, well forget it, I'm just gonna eat that ______ if depriving myself isn't gonna make me lose weight. So I am trying to go into this with a different plan. It will be a lot harder to just give up on eating healthy now, thanks to the sleeve Will you let me know which of the unflavored protein powders you like the best between the Unjury and the Bariatric Advantage? I want to get one but would like to hear a comparison review between the two. Thanks!!!

    Major Complications

I'm so sorry your fiance has gone through so much, I know it must've been very scary for both of you. I'm glad she did the right thing and went to the ER and caught it in time. I am sure it's been very painful and of course she is regretting her decision at this point. The healing process can take a while and be both physically and emotionally painful. There may come a day that she will come to love her sleeve, it just may take a while. This procedure is a lifesaver for so many people, and no one thinks at the time they make the very difficult decision to have it, that they will be in the percentage that has complications. You are correct, people that are researching need to know of these complications, and also, they need to know the signs and symptoms of a leak in case they have one themselves. Thank you for sharing her story and for your love and support for her, I am sure it means the world to her. Please continue to update us on her condition and also encourage her to join this forum for continuing support in her journey. It is nice to have friends to share both the ups and downs. I hope she recovers very quickly. Kelly

    Surgery today in mexico

You are doing so awesome!! When you say you are having trouble getting the liquid in, is it due to the restriction, the taking the time to do it, or does it cause you pain or discomfort to drink?? I am just 4 days post-op and not having problems getting the liquid in. I have tried different temps and different flavors to give me some variety. Protein, I am not doing as well, but trying to get in as much as I can. Congrats on the 28 lbs!!!:becky: :hippie:

    Eight Months Out!

Congrats to you on your weight loss and your upcoming wedding!!! How very exciting. You are doing fabulous girl, you've lost over a 100 lbs!! Wow!! I hope you meet your goal for your wedding day. I'm sure you can do it!!
  22. Hey girl, I know it can all be so overwhelming, but as the others have said, just focus on liquids right now to stay hydrated. Try different things at different temps, sometimes cold drinks make our tummies spasm. So room temp or even warm things may feel better. Warm broth, warm tea, etc. And I try to avoid drinks that are acidic, like the lemonade drink mixes for now. Are you on a PPI? I notice that the acid reducing meds are helping a lot on the tummy grumbling and weird noises. I take 2 at night and 1 in the morning. I am walking and taking Gas X strips all through the day for the gas. It seems to be helping, but not eliminating it completely, but it's not causing me a lot of pain. I haven't even started on my vitamins yet, until I get all the fluids in. I bought some chewable vitamins today and I will try them in the next few days to see how they do. Just hang in there, it will get better.
  23. Good luck to you, hope you have an easy recovery
  24. Just thought you should all know how awesome you are! Thanks for all the support and helping me make the best decision of my life :D

    Self Pay for VSG

Hi, I am still in Tijuana, MX as I type this. My surgeon is Dr. Jaime Ricardo Ramos-Kelly, and my patient coordinator is Trish. I had an excellent experience with my surgery. I have never seen a dr more caring and concerned for his patients. He is very personable and friendly. The cost was $5500, which included everything, except for my flight into San Diego(flight was $400 roundtrip). Dr Kelly's experience and skill was even more impressive than the price. I used the florence Hospital, which was nice, and very clean. There was security around the clock. The only pain/discomfort I felt was the gas pain immediately post surgery, and it was not as bad as I expected. The next day that was much improved and has improved better every day. The nurses kept meds such as antibiotic, PPI, pain meds, fluids, in my IV around the clock. I did have a drain, which was small and did not bother me, and no catheter. The drain did not hurt at all when it was removed, Dr Kelly did it very quickly. I did notice that the slight soreness I had felt that I thought was from the surgery itself, was relieved when the drain was removed. I was provided free transportation from the airport to the hospital, and from the hospital to the hotel. I stayed 2 nights in hospital and got 2 nights in hotel(but I am leaving today, a day early). I was provided an x-ray of my new sleeved tummy to take home with me after my leak test. I was provided free meds to take home which included pain, acid-reducer, antibiotic, antiseptic type spray for incisions, gauze and tape for incisions. I was given post-op instructions on meds and a drs excuse to be off work for 4 wks. The hotel accomodations were also included, and I am very impressed with it, the rooms are very nice. They also have security here, so I never felt concerned for our safety. The restaurant at the hotel has really good chicken broth and also a wonderful Tortilla Soup. Dr Kelly and Trish are 2 of the most caring people I have ever met and go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. You get many visits a day from them and even while at the hotel they come to visit you and make sure you have everything and your needs are met. Trish is a sweetheart, and made sure we had everything we needed. She brought me Gatorades and Jellos to the hotel. They are never rushed to leave your side, and answer all your questions, and even take the time to sit and socialize with you. I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with my sleeve sisters that I met through this site. My sister came with me and has stated many times that I am healthier post surgery than pre surgery and look better, and I certainly feel better. She can't believe how well we are all doing this soon after surgery. We are hoping to come back in the near future so she can get the procedure as well. I am having no trouble getting liquids down, or walking around. My energy level is great. Since around 4 pm yesterday, I was able to get in around 40 oz gatorade and about 4 oz broth, and a cup of pineapple jello(not all at one sitting). I look and feel as though I have not had surgery. I don't know if this was the proper place to post this, but I wanted to get it out while everything was still fresh on my mind. I plan on posting in "my story" and also in a blog about my experience from pre-op liquid diet forward. If you have ANY questions please feel free to send me a message I would rate my entire experience here with Dr Kelly on a scale of 1-10 a definite 10!!! 4 days post-op and I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!! :hippie:
