  1. Fantastic!!! Now you gotta work on that camera shy thing!

    Whats the worst

For me it was the pre-op liquid diet. I know that sounds strange, but it was so hard. And I had even been doing low carb and cutting portions for a long time before, had already kicked my soda habit a long time before. But I just missed eating in general and was very hungry. Even the post-op liquid diet wasn't as bad and it was for a longer period of time. I have had such an easy recovery, I hate to even say it cuz I know it kinda sounds impossible but I am very lucky and so happy about it. Immediately out of recovery I felt that gas everyone talks about and I started saying, I gotta walk, I gotta walk, but I couldn't then because I was just coming out from under the anesthesia. I had no pain, no nausea, no sore throat, no complications minor or major. I did feel like I had done a bunch of sit ups, but it wasn't really pain, just slight discomfort? But the day they removed the drain, I realized that feeling was actually the feeling from the drain. And even the drain removal that I had been afraid of and dreading was nothing! Except kind of a relief. Dr Kelly did it so fast, I didn't feel any pain from that either. I feel very very blessed to be post op and have chosen the Dr I did. Good luck in your research and getting your sleeve!!
  4. Hi Hot Feet I don't know if you are like me, but I lose from head to toe, literally. My face, chin, breasts, upper abdomen, then it takes FOREVER to look or feel like the rest of my body has lost any weight.....except for my feet! I think my feet was one of the first things I notice too. It's truly weird, but I carry a lot of weight in my tummy, thighs and booty, so I guess it's gonna take a while for that to look different to us. As someone else said, other people are probably noticing a difference, even if they aren't saying. Or it's just enough weight loss that they notice something is different, but can't put their finger on what it is. Some days I feel thinner, but most of the time I still feel really fat. My bras also got too big before anything else. I wish we could pick where we lose weight, I would have liked to keep my boobs, but after reading the boards for so long, I was kinda prepared for this too. As another poster said too, I can definitely see a difference if I look at pics. Not that there's many of me around cuz I completely despise my pic being taken. But try to dig out some if you have any current ones to compare. And measuring is a great idea too. The scales just don't move fast enough for any of us, it's one thing we can all agree on! But we're gonna get there, slowly but surely!!

    post op difficulty and discouraged

Hi, you are only 5 days post op and it is understandable that you are having trouble getting everything in right now. Especially all the protein. Focus on hydration first right now and get some protein in, but you probably still have some swelling in your tummy too, so you may not be able to get in all the required protein just yet. I am 3 wks out today and although I had no swelling or nausea, I still have to work all day long, starting early each morning to get my fluids in. And I need to get more protein in, but I'm doing pretty good there. I'd like to caution you on giving into temptation right now on the cookies or anything like that, to protect your staple line. I know how you feel, I have seen things I wanted to taste, but I haven't been hungry yet at all. The acid reducer I take really helps with nausea and false hunger that acid will induce. If you're not on one yet, I recommend it. I know you are taking other things and it seems like a chore, but it really does help. Try not to get discouraged and take it one day at a time. Like everyone says, it gets better everyday!!

    FOOD

You are not crazy or alone!! Most of us go through this too. Especially when you know you are about to have to do all clear liquids for a long time. I just tried not to go too overboard. I picked one place that I don't go to often because I was doing low carb prior to my liquid diet. So I chose Olive Garden. It was delicious and I didn't do too bad cuz I filled up on salad first. Ended up bringing half my food home.
  7. The good news: I got some new scales! The bad news: I weigh a few lbs heavier lol. Not gonna let it bother me cuz I expected a difference. They do the body fat and hydration too.

    Win or lose

Congrats to you for just making it this far!! It is amazing the changes that take place in us, other than the weight loss and better health! You go in there and let the real you shine! Good luck, I hope that you get the promotion!!
  9. I know it's hard, but you have to let them go. Sometimes this is necessary with toxic relationships. I have had to do this with people too. I say people cuz I can't even call them friends. Not true friends. If a person isn't happy for you when you take steps to become healthier they are not a friend. And you've given her plenty of time over the yrs, and chances, to be different and be a good friend. She has failed over and over. I do believe in forgiving people, but if you are constantly forgiving or overlooking a persons behavior but they do nothing to change them, or continue to be self centered and try to hold you back or are jealous and not happy when good things happen for you, then it's emtotionally harmful to you. That's not a good support system for you. I would say definitely be cautious in calling people a true friend, but try not to shut yourself off completely. We all need friends. We just have to make sure they have our best interest at heart.
  10. Yes, a lot of us felt the same way pre-op and I know there is still people waiting to get sleeved that are in the same boat you are. I had to wait longer than most people for various reasons, so I can totally relate!! But it's happening for you it looks like, you're jumping through the hoops of hell with insurance, but it will all be worth it!! Try not to get discouraged and keep the faith. I just kept busy trying to make changes that I knew I would have to make after surgery. Smaller portions of food, lower carb, adding a little exercise and trying to be more active, and all that jazz. It helps get you prepared and benefits you healthwise too. I figured I may as well make the best of it. Don't get disheartened cuz it will be here before you know it and you will be sleeved!!

    What I had for Lunch

That does sound delish!! Glad you tolerated it well, and splitting with your hubby was a great idea. It's kinda fun trying to be creative and come up with new things to eat outside of the normal. I am looking forward to more variety too.

    Smoking

Oh and get something to take the place of them too, like sf popsicles, sf candy, whatever works for those times when you miss doing something with your hands and mouth. That seems to help too.
  13. It will all be worth it, and you can eventually have those things again. My hunger is mostly gone also, but I do miss certain foods, especially if I see someone else eating one of my favorites or a commercial, or we have these little festivals around here, and of course they have the whole town smelling delicious!! But it's more of wanting the taste than actually being hungry for me. I remind myself why I did this, come here for support or to read, and I love to look at before/after pics for inspiration and motivation. You can do it, a wk or 3 wks isn't a big deal in the big scheme of things. We're here for ya!

    Smoking

Wellbutrin helped me a yr or so ago to quit but I was mostly a social or a few a day. Good luck, I know its hard, especially if you're on a pre-op or post op diet. You can do it!!

  16. Awesome girly, bet that was a GR8 feeling!!!!! :cheer2:
  17. Congrats on being sleeved and for the success you have experienced! I'm sorry to hear about the pain you experienced in the beginning. While it is your decision to not share your surgeons name, I hope you will reconsider because you might save thousands of people the painful experience that you had. That is why we come to these boards pre-op. The pain management and nausea were one of my main concerns, and I would have wanted to know this during my decision making part of this journey. I also went to Mexico and it was the easiest surgery I've ever had. I had no actual pain, just a little discomfort as if I had done a lot of situps. After my drain was removed, even that was gone. During the recovery portion, i did feel the gas pain but it wasn't at all unbearable. I did want to walk immediately because I had researched for so long and was very prepared. Thanks for the very detailed account of your experience. I am very happy for your success with your weightloss and wish you continued happiness.
  18. Yay Neanie, so excited for you!! Wishing you an easy surgery and speedy recovery!!! :cheer2:

    in tears right now

I'm so sorry, I know how upsetting this is. I got sick the wk before my surgery and stayed that was until just a couple days before I had to leave. Thankfully it all worked out for me. I had been researching 7 yrs and I was very ready to get it done. I hope you get better in time for your surgery. and try not to stress too much. Just let your dr know and he will make the decision based on what is best for you. Good luck and let us know!!
  20. I recovered in a very nice hotel, and I really enjoyed it. You can contact Trish directly @ smoothgospel@hotmail.es and one # is (619) 955-6771.
  21. Hi Cathi, I'm a real person and a patient of Dr Kellys. I had surgery in Tijuana MX on 5/16. I did not go through Sandy as a coordinator, but I have heard of others using her. I know it's hard to believe this is possible to do at such a reasonable price, i felt the same way when I first started researching. I don't know what to do to prove to you that i am real, but you may ask me any questions here or privately. When I read the title of your post I had to giggle even though I know you were serious. It's good to do your research. You have to feel 100% comfortable with your decision to get sleeved and go to MX to have the surgery. But Dr Kelly is wonderful and very experienced. I haven't had any problems at all so far. I read and researched for a long time. I was nervous and skeptical too. It's completely normal! Keep reading and ask questions. There's a lot of good info here. Good luck in your research!!
