What do I pack for surgery in Mexico?
KellyL replied to StephieLynn's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You won't need the tape measure there, sorry! I didn't exchange money but I didn't really do any shopping. -
I think this can happen during any kind of liquid diet for any kind of procedure. Especially if there's throwing up or diarrhea. I thought Gatorade or G2 could help replenish electrolytes. I think this includes potassium, but you may want to google it to be sure. I hope you get it resolved quickly!

who's gone and had a good experience in mexico?
KellyL replied to kansasgirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a wonderful experience with Dr Kelly in Mexico. He is very experienced as a bariatric surgeon, and also has trauma training. I had 2 full nights in the Florence Hospital, and the price also includes 2 nights in a very nice hotel. The cost was $5500. Dr Kelly and Trish even visit you at the hotel. I had discomfort from the gas immediately after surgery, but no pain with the sleeve itself. I had no nausea or throwing up. They administered meds thru my IV for pain, acid, gas elimination, and antibiotics. After the drain removal and leak test on day 3 I felt good, had no trouble walking around, and had no pain or problems drinking gatorade and eating jello and chicken broth. I am so grateful to Dr Kelly for an easy surgery and speedy recovery. Good luck on your decision! -
Most everyone experiences resistance in the beginning if for no other reason and most importantly, out of fear of you dying during the surgery. They love us and don't want to lose us. And it sounds like your hubby doesn't understand that the willpower issue is exactly why you need the sleeve. You do still have to work at staying compliant with protein and liquids, but the sleeve takes most of the extreme hunger, while helping you with portion control. I guess he's going to need time to accept what you're doing. I found the more confident I spoke about the sleeve, the more my family began to feel better about my decision. I had to sell the sleeve AND going to Mexico. But I did my research for a very long time. I agree, I wouldn't ask him to research the sleeve, just learn as much as you can so if he begins asking questions you can easily answer him. Hopefully he'll come around, as the other poster said, you are doing it for him too. Good luck!

1 Month Post-op - Advice Appreciated
KellyL replied to Blessed&Broken's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are doing fantastic to me!! 30 lbs total, wow! I have the emotional stuff too. And even though I've read about stalls on here all the time, it doesn't make it easier when I go thru one. We all feel the same way. I am so thankful for the sleeve though, cuz before when I would hit a stall, I would just give up and start earing too much of all the bad stuff again. I can't do that as easily now, so it keeps me from giving up or sabotaging myself. I've never been a patient person myself, but I have to keep reminding myself I have a lot of weight to lose and it's gonna take time. I have made myself stop weighing so much, the scales can really mess with my head. We'll get there though, we just have to follow the rules and stop listening to our negative self doubt. -
Congrats, that's awesome!! :cheer2:

Is he on prilosec or something for acid?? Something has to be causing the inflammation. I agree he may need a second opinion. -

This sounds horrible! I'm sorry you're going through this, I did not experience it but have read others did. I hope you feel better soon!! -
I don't know about your area, but jobs are very scarce around here. I don't agree at all with what he said to you, but I know from experience that employers will find other reasons to let you go without getting themselves in trouble legally. Since you have vacation coming up anyway, maybe you should consider waiting till then or seeing if they will compromise due to this being a medical issue and allow you to take vacation early. I am sure you don't want to wait a month, and I understand that completely. Just some things to consider. Good luck!!!!
