I'm sorry about this, I know it's frustrating! I have never heard of the bmi over 50 for approval of the sleeve. That's strange. If you could show in your medical records why rny or band wouldn't work (like the need for NSAID's) then you may be able to get it approved or appeal it. Good luck!!

Agreed with everyone it takes a while to adjust to dealing with the emotions we would have just buried with food previously, and hormones take time to balance out. Exercise helps our weightloss as well as relieving stress. I am starting out slow with walking and my Gazelle Glider, but seems to be helping. You're not alone in this!

:welcome: Hi, I'm glad you found this forum too, it is so helpful sharing info with other sleevers!! We are only a day apart on surgery dates. I was sleeved 5/16. I have had the same experience with not losing for 2-2 1/2 wks but its normal. I still feel like I am getting more compact, if that makes sense. I am also type 2 diabetic but off meds!! I am so happy about that! I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Does stopping Nexium make you hungry?
KellyL replied to New & Improved Mel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of the Bariatric Surgeons that have been doing the Sleeve for a while are aware that acid can cause nausea, and hunger feelings. Some surgeons start these meds right in your IV right out of surgery. Most of them send you home with the meds or a script to get the meds. They usually recommend PPI's for up to 6 months, but some people continue afterwards if they still have problems. If you type in "acid causes hunger" on yahoo: 5,270,000 results for acid causes hunger: The hits for the sites that come up aren't even necessarily related to bariatric or Sleeve websites. You can also search "gastric sleeve acid causes hunger" and you will get a high # of hits, a lot of them of course from the wls websites. I hope this helps and good luck!!! I hate to see anyone suffer needlessly with hunger when that is part of the reason I chose this procedure over the others. -

I don't know about the weight loss part, but have read about people experiencing hunger from acid if they weren't on meds. Good luck on the scales moving soon!! -

HELP!!! How can I motivate myself to exercise?
KellyL replied to Meandmylittledog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a Gazelle Glider that I just started using. Started out 20 mins listening to some upbeat music. I also use the Wii and did Wii Sports while still too early post op to do more strenuous exercise. Now I want Just Dance 2 and Michael Jackson, I hear they are fun! -
Omg that really sucks and you're probably right about them just wanting to bill your insurance. I'd ask them why so many appts to figure something out, that's ridiculous!!! Good luck!!

I get the generic prilosec so its cheaper and seems to work as well as namebrand. Definitely keep us posted! Good luck!

oh no...!!! you didn't......!!!!!
KellyL replied to GA Girl Best in the World's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If she's a good friend for a long time, i don't know that i would let her go just yet, but i would definitely say look.... What is the real problem here??? You HAVE seen me work my ass off and nearly kill myself dieting and exercising, and I don't have to do it again to prove anything to anyone. I have made a decision to go forward with surgery, my hubby supports me, and I would LOVE for my best friend to support me without all the negative backbiting comments. I don't want our friendship to be damaged, but my health has got to come first. I can do it without you by my side, but I don't really want to........ Maybe this will open her up to the real reasons she doesnt want you to be sleeved. It could be concern because of fear of losing you. It could be jealousy. It could be the bond that you've shared fighting this battle together she is not wanting to lose. Let her know y'all can still diet and exercise together. If she still continues the negativity, then yeah, might have to put some distance between you, at least for a while. Hope it works out!!! -
Hubby wants bypass but I don't
KellyL replied to 420gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's exactly what I was about to ask, why bypass for him?? Weird. Let your hubby know he will lose faster and easier regardless, cuz he's a man and they always lose better than us!!!!(no fair!!) And you probably already have pointed out the regain ppl have with bypass, so it defeats purpose of putting yourself at more risks to lose a little more, if that's gonna come back anyway. But he will always be stuck with malabsorbing vitamins and nutrients. His tummy won't be able to ever be scoped. He will have to fight the hunger hormone with a tiny pouch that stretches easier than the sleeve. This part alone makes the sleeve way more attractive!!! I understand your concern! Good luck! -
You are doing great!! Look how much looser those shorts are in the legs too!! It's amazing the difference 40 lbs make. Keep rocking it girl!!! :cheer2:

I'm so scared to go to Mexico now.
KellyL replied to msleesa's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I never felt scared or concerned for my safety at all. They transported us everywhere, and I never saw any violence or strange behavior at all. I never went anywhere other than where they took me. -
Wow that is truly amazing!!! Congrats, and please do share your secrets for rocking that sleeve!! :cheer2:

What made you pick VSG instead of DS?
KellyL replied to SomethingClever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I researched a lot for 7 yrs while waiting to get an insurance company to cover wls for me, or to come up with funds to self-pay. This gave me a lot of time to read all the forums, research drs, etc. I actually looked into the DS very seriously. I have seen a certain group of DSers behave like a cult in going to other surgery forums and try to sway new people to the "darkside" as they like to call it. While I totally believe in "paying it forward" and answering people that ask questions, telling people they will fail if they choose any other procedure is wrong. Some of these same people in the group were 5 yrs out from their DS and not at goal yet. Some had regained a little weight back. One had gained 75 lbs. They are requied to take 15-20 vitamins a day as well as sometimes 2 different meds to prevent smelly gas and stool. But they will tell you this isn't common and doesn't happen to most, or they blame it on the persons diet of carbs, which is what they brag about being able to eat with no problems. These vitamins are not the cheap ones, they have to use the more expensive "dry" vitamins. The cost for all these a month are $50-$200. The sad part to me is, some of the folks that spend all their time and $ to keep their labs normal, still sometimes have deficiencies. I am not asking anyone to believe me or go by my research. But you can find it all right on the DS forum at OH. Also check the complications board. Read read read. I also wrote a well-known DS surgeon back when I was trying to make my decision, Dr Baltasar. I asked him which surgery offered the best quality of life, and which he would recommend to a family member of his own. He said hands down the Sleeve. If you decide after researching that you still want the DS, I really do wish you the best. I just wanted to encourage you to research yourself and not let anyone sway you or tell you what is best for you, cause only you know that.
