3 Month Followup...down 90 Lbs
KellyL replied to BamaXpress78's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You're doing fabulous, congrats!!! -
P.S. Isn't that what Marks Daily Apple is? Paleo or Primal? I subscribed on this website the other day and got some free cookbooks and basics, and a couple other things. Just google Marks Daily Apple if you're interested. I love the recipes for things like Fat Guacamole Devils, which is deviled eggs with avocado and lime juice and hot sauce in it. Yummy! I love to keep these and regular deviled eggs fixed up in the fridge for quick grab snacks.

Yeah it's basically a stricter low carb, no dairy. I have a very similar eating style because I don't do wheat any more. I believe I have a wheat sensitivity. But I am hesitant to give up dairy, because I love my cheese and I think my protein shakes I love have milk in them. Who knows though, I may try it cause I wonder sometimes if the cheese isn't what stalls me.

Considering A Real Diet
KellyL replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the 92 lbs, that is phenomenal weight loss in my opinion. I am a very SLOW loser, and that is with being very strict with my carbs and calories. But whether I decide to increase or decrease calories and carbs to get the weight off quicker, I don't think I will EVER call it a "diet". It's just doing what I have to do to get the weight off or especially not to put the weight back on. There is so much info out there about wheat and carbs being the problem, but then I watched a show today, The Revolution, and Harley was griping about the woman he is helping and they are following to lose weight. Even though she had met his weight loss goal, rather than commend her for her efforts, he accused her of not staying on HIS plan, because she is cutting carbs and he claims that low carb is very temporary weight loss. But on the other hand, most other popular diet plans I have read about recently are pushing low carb, little to no wheat, etc. It's all so confusing. I guess we all have to play with the #'s and food and see what works for us individually. So many things like age, hormones, etc play a part in what we need to do to lose the weight. What you are doing seems to be working for you. And I think that's what we all have to come to the conclusion of. Yes, you may be able to lose a little faster by cutting calories or carbs, but it doesn't sound like that will make you very happy. I don't know that I would do anything that I am not happy with. The thing about my low calorie low carb eating plan, I don't feel hungry or deprived. It is more of a struggle for me to try to get more in or just enough most days. The only carbs that I miss occasionally if I see them, are the junk carbs. And then it's not an overwhelming, OMG, I have got to have that!! It's just a pleasant memory of how it tasted. But eating those things way too often is what got me close to 300 lbs and Type 2 Diabetic. It's what lead me to the decision of hopping onto a surgery table to remove 85% of my stomach. So I can live without it, or make a choice to have it very rarely, but not let it consume my life. -
I Have To Eat Out..again
KellyL replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You made a great choice at McD's. It is different being choosier with our choices, worrying about other peoples reactions or the staff. But I think a lot of that is US and how we think people are judging or thinking we are being complicated. Some people may be curious, but they don't really care as much as we think they do. The a la carte menu is perfect for this situation. I also like to share fajitas and skip the tortilla. I can only eat a small amount of chicken or steak with a little bit of guacamole and sour cream, so this is usually my hubby or daughters plate. Of course this would all depend on what food stage you are in as well. Earlier out, I would have a little refried beans with cheese dip and sour cream and guacamole mixed together. It would not take very much to fill me up at all. -

Yeah the carbs on the protein shake and bar seem a little high, I use Atkins shakes and while they only have 15 grams of protein, they have like 1 or 2 net carbs each. I don't eat fruit at all but never did even pre-op. Is the carbs in your jello pudding from the milk or are you using regular pudding? I would try sugar free. I think there are low carb yogurts, but I only use plain greek yogurt as a sour cream replacement in dips and stuff. You can also use stevia and torani sf syrups to flavor and sweeten with too.

Stalls suck You are getting close to the dreaded 3 wk stall though, so maybe it started a little early? I hope it passes soon, but other than increasing the fluids, I can't offer any advise, I seem to be the Queen of Stalls.

What The Bleep Am I Doing To Myself, Oh Yeah, Stuffing My Face!
KellyL replied to Viola's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with letting go of the guilt/self hatred for what happened yesterday, but instead plan for the day. Have all kinds of protein stuff available and no carb stuff around, don't even bring it into your house. Have plenty of string cheese, boiled eggs, deli meat, almonds, pistachios, pecans, protein bars, deviled eggs, ready to drink protein drinks. Never be unprepared at home or when going out. I take string cheese and nuts in my purse every time I leave the house. Sometimes even a protein shake. Even if you have to eat out for some reason, every restaurant has a meat or salad option. If you are bored with what you have been eating, look for easy low carb recipes or modify regular ones. You can do this, it takes some effort yes, but you are worth it!! Hang in there, we can all do this together. -

Uh Oh..... Did ! Mess Up?
KellyL replied to Missmarbe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it's not a mistake, just a personal choice. Since you are in the medical field, perhaps they see it more often and are less judgmental. My family and some friends know about my Sleeve, but I don't post about it openly on Facebook or anything. If it comes up there somehow, I won't deny it. -
