Tired of hearing you don't look that big to need surgery!
KellyL replied to sugarmamma7's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
While much of it does stem from concern for your well-being, they are only going by what they have heard through the media and the grapevine about their cousins husbands sister. I found when I told them that I was doing this surgery for my health and pain, and it will ease and possibly cure these problems, they do sort of shut up. I reckon they all think of weight loss surgery as being like cosmetic surgery, and it comes from ignorance, so just try to look over it. We can't control what people say to us, but we can control how we let it affect us. I have a big problem with letting people get to me emotionally, but I have been working on this for a while now, and it's helping so much. I tend to be a people pleaser and need others approval, but not so much anymore. I think about myself, my family, my health, etc. A good response is, I have done yrs of research and know this is right for me and all my health issues. I am not seeking anyones approval but I would appreaciate your support. You don't even have to say it hateful, but they usually get it when you say that lol. Don't worry, you have hubbys support and you know your reasons for doing it. You have educated yourself, they haven't. Take care of you! -
Don't stress yourself out, just focus on protein and lower carb stuff, I don't worry about the rest. I do keep up with calories, but mostly because the trackers that I use, when I log my foods, show all of it, and I am curious. But I mostly work on the protein and getting 70-80 grams or more of it in. If you eat protein first, not much room for anything else anyway. Congrats on getting to solids, it is so much better in this stage!!

My surgery is coming up and an now having nightmares! :(
KellyL replied to vanessa112's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your decision to get the sleeve, that's wonderful!! I think the nightmares are just some of your anxiety and fear coming through your dreams. I don't remember any nightmares, but I did have a lot of anxiety, especially as it got closer and closer. I knew the sleeve was what I wanted to do for yrs, and when I was finally able to come up with the funds and everything came together, I admit, I panicked!! It's just part of the process, and wouldn't be normal if we didn't worry, this is a surgery afterall. But it's very rare to have complications, so take comfort in that. I'm very happy for you, good luck and keep us updated! -
Sleeved and more confused than ever!
KellyL replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is overwhelming at first, just first and foremost try to stay hydrated. Then all the rest will follow as you get further out. Get protein where you can, but it may take a while to get the amount you are shooting for. It takes a while to adjust to everything but it does get easier as you relax and as the swelling goes down in your new sleeve. -
Congrats on your success and Happy 1 yr surgeriversary!!!! :cheer2:

KellyL replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think depending on size, 4 or 5. Eat a few then see how you feel. You will feel the restricion with dense protein. Congrats on getting real food! ! -

KellyL replied to Dadams2102008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're down to the last 5#'s you are doing something right!! Are you getting plenty of protein and water? You might increase if not. Do you count carbs? Do you log everything in myfitnesspal? -

If I really like something, I just remember that I can eat it again at my next meal if I still want more of it. I am getting to eat all I want, just stretched out over a long time -

NEW NAME? "Sleeved in Seattle"
KellyL replied to SeattleSue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I waited very patiently for you to finish before responding lol. I loved reading your experience, everyone is right. You have a real talent. Reading your experience has reminded me I kept a notepad of my experience as it was happening, but I have yet to post it. I think I am going to put mine in my "about me" section. But I have to proofread it prior to posting it, there's no telling how many typos and things in it. I am not the writer you are, so it won't be near as entertaining, but you can read and compare if you like. I noticed a lot of similarities and differences. We must of been in different areas of Florence Hospital, cause I didn't hear any noise from outside. And it may be because I was distracted by trying to gracefully transfer to the operating table without having a wardrobe malfunction, but I didn't even notice the windows in the OR hahaha!!!! Yay for reflective glass on the outside of the building, cuz I have no idea if the shades were closed when I was in there!! I was also busy noticing all the people in there and desperately looking for Dr Kelly in the crowd lol. Congrats on being sleeved, I am very happy for you and glad you are home continuing with your recovery. -

Beauty Queen Weight Loss Skeptic
KellyL replied to Sleevie WonderLand's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG!!!! I had no idea Jonah had lost weight, he looks good! But yes, I have to agree, the "dramatic weight loss" that fast, and his comments. Sounds like wls to me. I am happy for him if he got it, hope it was the sleeve lol. Yes, I am a little biased.....ha Yeah I agree about the stigma going away if the celebrities would admit to wls, but maybe they are holding out to see if they can maintain it. It would definitely help wls like the sleeve become more mainstream and help SOOOOO many people who would benefit from it.
