Diagnosed with pneumonia 3 days post op
KellyL replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well! Do you have a fever? Please keep a watch on this, I have seen people diagnosed with Pneumonia early out from surgery, and sometimes it turns out to be a leak. Have you spoken to your surgeon about what's going on? I am not trying to scare you, just watch for those symptoms. When you cough, it might help to hold a pillow to your tummy. I hope the meds help you very soon!! Feel Better and take care. -
Wow, congrats!!! That's awesome, I am 4 months out now too, I can't believe how time has flown and how much better I feel. The Sleeve has truly changed my life! Keep rocking that sleeve!

Sorry, I haven't heard of him, but I think a couple others asked this question, you could search this forum to see if anyone ever answered. Also maybe google him. Good luck in your research.

Why the Shock and Disdain for WLS
KellyL replied to favoredone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, we fatties are damned if we do, damned if we don't. People disapprove of us if we're fat, but they also disapprove of the only weapon we have against obesity, which is WLS. I learned a long time ago, that I can't please everyone, so I am just gonna have to do what I gotta do to become healthy!! I know there are many people who have never had a weight problem in their whole life, that are very quick to advise us to NOT have surgery. Even people that have weight problems too, seem to be against it. Part of it may be concern because they have heard or imagine that it is risky, but they don't take the time to realize that being obese and all the diseases and disorders that obesity brings with it is much more unhealthy and life threatening. Usually they make comments out of ignorance, because they haven't done any research on the latest procedures. I thank people for their concern if they say anything, but tell them I did yrs of research. I've lost weight, my diabetes is gone (in remission), and I can actually walk and do things I haven't done in yrs. So I am very very happy with my decision. They don't say a lot after that lol. -
Really struggling now
KellyL replied to Phoenix Rising's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are struggling and feeling anxiety about the water weight gain. That is bad that you had to change meds and it's affecting you this way, but they should be able to understand. Try to get in a lot of fluids, perhaps that will help your body start releasing the water you are retaining. I am sending you positive vibes for a good outcome and a surgery date soon! -
Wondering if something is "wrong"
KellyL replied to Shalon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hungry is pretty much gone, but I felt some hunger on the liquid diets. Not like pre-op ravenous hunger, but I still felt hunger even if I drank some protein shakes. It will get better as the swelling goes down some and you get to transition to the mushy then solid food stages I think. -
Congrats, you look stunning and so very happy!!

:welcome: It is natural to have some anxiety going into any surgery. I had a very easy recovery and never experienced a lot of pain post op. A little gas discomfort until they gave me meds for it. Felt a little like I had done a lot of situps until they removed the drain. And don't let that freak you out, because the drain removal doesn't hurt either, or for me it didn't. My dr did it so quick I don't believe I had time to even feel anything. But I was able to walk and get around very easily and had no problems or complications. I have seen others with easy recoveries and some had a little rougher of a time, because we are all different, and I believe the skills and experience of the Surgeon does make a difference, but you will do great I am sure and they are usually really good at managing any post op issues you may have. Do you have a Surgeon and surgery date? Good luck and keep us updated!!

Restriction increasing at 11 weeks?
KellyL replied to Escape_Pod's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did seem to lose my hunger for the most part. I got a little concerned the last few days cuz I was especially hungry, but I still wasn't really eating the wrong things or way too many calories. It was worrying me though cuz I didn't want the hunger coming back. Then the first thing I try to eat today, I ate just a few bites and was completely full as if I had ate a lot. And I haven't been hungry much at all today. It's weird, and I don't know if it's acid related or not. I am 4 months out today and stopped taking my PPI about a month ago. No problems with getting off the PPI but if my hunger returned I was going to get back on it. But my restriction seems to be different on certain days and sometimes the time of day matters. Like mornings may be more restriction. It's strange how it varies lol. -
They are a little different but do the same thing, they are both PPI. As the other person said, sometimes one will work great for a person and not another, you have to find one that works well for you. Especially early out, the acid can be much worse and hard to control, so you may have to ask about taking 2 a day and preferably on an empty tummy then wait an hr to eat. Be careful what you are eating and drinking, cuz acidic food/drink will make it worse. I got this info from the website http://www.medicinen...ole/article.htm Omeprazole is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI) that block the production of acid by the stomach. Other drugs in the class include lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), pantoprazole (Protonix), and esomeprazole (Nexium). Proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, which are all caused by stomach acid. Omeprazole, like other proton-pump inhibitors, blocks the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this allows the stomach and esophagus to heal. Zegerid contains omeprazole and an antacid (sodium bicarbonate). The FDA approved omeprazole in September 1989.

Nutritional value of Domino's Thin Crust Pizza
KellyL replied to imawhodat's topic in Food and Nutrition
When I typed in "dominos thin cheese pizza" into myfitnesspal, it comes up with several, it seems it varies on whether it's a large medium or small. I don't know how accurate it is cuz there are several that are different. One says for a slice of Large Thin, it's 200 calories, 20 carbs, 9 g protein 10 g fat. Another large says 240 and 19 carbs and 9 g protein. But then there's a medium thin cheese pizza that lists 285 calories, 29 carbs, and 11 g protein??? So quite confusing! -
Chronic Nausea with solids
KellyL replied to Discocactus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on a PPI/Acid reducer? Your comment about acid reflux reminded me that I have seen others mention nausea if they weren't on a PPI. Did the twist resolve itself? -
where do you fit your protein in? how do you get calories?
KellyL replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Food and Nutrition
Pure Protein Bars in chocolate Peanut Butter 20g protein top with a little peanut butter for added protein and calories Fage or other greek yogurt 20ish g protein add in sf pudding like cheesecake or white choc Cottage Cheese--high source of protein, I add applesauce or tiny bit of apple butter to flavor. Atkins shakes The Atkins Shakes aren't as high in protein as some others, but they aren't as strong smelling or tasting as some either. I like the vanilla flavor the best. I hope it gets easier for you soon! -
Too much weight loss before surgery on pre-op diet?
KellyL replied to Brittanysiemens's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I don't think that losing too much weight on the pre-op is really a big concern with the self-pay Drs. Usually it's more of a concern with Insurance in the States. Sometimes the State Drs require a certain # of lbs to lose before surgery and they will sometimes disqualify for that or for not sticking to your pre-op plan. It's my understanding for most of the MX Drs, the pre-op diet is mainly for the shrinking of the liver so they can get around easier inside you to do the surgery, not for you to really lose a lot of weight, but if it concerns you, just ask your coordinator. I have never heard of someone being disqualified by a MX Dr or by Dr Kelly for losing too much. If you qualified based on your starting BMI to begin with they shouldn't penalize you for losing a little while trying to shrink your liver. I would verify this through Dr Kelly if it's worrying you. -

SURGERY ON 09/02-I HAVE NO PROBLEMS?
KellyL replied to wannasleeve's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You've done a great job on your weight loss!! And it's wonderful news about your A1C too. Congrats! I would love being in your sizes I understand about the "changing your thinking" thing. Some days I feel thinner and some days I feel like I did at my heaviest. It's really weird! -
:welcome: Hi and glad you decided to post to the forum. I don't know about the school thing, except it's possible you could stay in school and just take all your lunches/snacks maybe? I know a lot of people have the surgery and have to go to work with it and all. In the beginning I know I had to eat every couple of hrs so you would maybe have to get your Dr to send something to your school saying you have to be on a medical diet with a certain schedule? I wish you a lot of luck with your surgery and look forward to more updates and posts from you.
