    Break It To Me Gently!

wnicoleb, mine were a bit read around the staples too. The actual incision looks nicely healed but all of my little staple holes have a small bit of red around them. My surgeon said they looked good and I had them removed Tuesday. Since then everything is healing up nicely. They itch a lot but nothing that drives me crazy. The removing was very easy. Just a slight tug and out they come. I'll admit it was a little sore after but again nothing more than a pain level of 1. I had no clue what was under the Water tight bandage until my surgeon took them off. It kinda felt like staples under there but wasn't sure.
  2. Same exact thing here tbnote. Our bodies must be adjusting. I know I have read that people stall. I just didn't expect it week 2 -3. :-/

    Help Needed!

You know, they told me the same thing before surgery. However, I was thinking it was just while we are recovering. Is it something long term?
  4. We are well on the right road! Glad to see I'm on track with everyone else. - Keep it up milan, slow and steady.
  5. I'm right there with you Postal. I am counting down the days (6) until I can start on soft foods. The liquids seem to have gotten easier as time goes on but I still struggle with the head hunger. It also really doesn't feel like hunger but just a missing feeling. I have been doing 2 protein shakes while at work and coming home to some type of high protein soup. Thankfully I found Premier Protein at the suggestion of another member and it has really seen me through. All of the stuff I got in preparation hasn't worked out. I also got a lot of sugar free jello and I have no desire to eat it. I have lost 23lbs since surgery. I've kinda stalled out over the last 3 or so days. I lost the majority of the weight the first week. I'm hoping it picks back up soon. I know that going from 2400 calories a day to 600 is going to produce weight loss. I just need my body to get on board.

    Why I Dont Feel Full

Protein is the key. I really like Premier Protein. I get it at my local Sam's Club. It is the best tasting that I have found. It is also premixed so you don't end up with all that extra air from the shaker bottle.
  11. 10 mg of melatonin was and is my friend!

    Why I Dont Feel Full

You are absoultley right! That is why I claim an episode of temporary insanity! My plan calls for solid foods @ week 3 and vegetables are way down the road. I have been feeling like my old self for awhile and I just wasn't thinking. It however did one thing and that was to prove to me that my stomach is indeed smaller. Back to the soft soups for me! They feel so much better! :-)

    Why I Dont Feel Full

Mslnzee2010, today is my official 2 week mark too. I understand what your going through. Things just feel differently for me now then they used to. I drink 2 Protein shakes a day during work and 54 oz of crystal total. By the time I get home from work, I am hungry. So I go to my Soups (without pasta) for dinner. I have been eating a really nice Soup I found from Panera (Chicken). I don't puree it. It is so well cooked that everything is mostly mush to begin with. What little chunks I do get I chew about 40 times to insure they will pass through my new pouch. This gives me a satisfied feeling for awhile. I then make sure I get all my liquids in and it is time for bed. Let me warn you. I went a little crazy yesterday and decided to eat some cooked broccoli that was on the stove. I was 3 stems in when I finally realized what I was doing. Let me just say that I was uncomfortable for the rest of the night. It was a lesson well learned. Some habits just die hard. I'm used to walking by and grabbing a taste of whatever is cooking. It was not a fun experience and not one that I will be repeating. I was fully aware that my new pouch works!

The Hospital Called Today For My Pre-Registration Information

Hang in there Kathy! The weeks leading up to my surgery were filled with anxiety and I tend to believe that I deal with stress well. It will be here before you know it and you will be rocking your new sleeve. Good luck and well wishes!
  17. Feeling even better today. It seems that as each day goes by I feel more and more like myself. I was even able to work out for awhile. Now onward to prep for Stage 2! :) - A big thank you to everyone for their support and well wishes. A special thanks to my 'support person' Angela Skelton

Surgery Tomorrow -- What To Expect?

Shay, now that you mention it ... They did give me a patch behind my ear. It really helped me feel normal again because they were able to take me off the phenergan which put me to sleep. I would really recommend the patch to anyone with nausea.

    Your "large" Incision?

Here is what mine look like. I get to have my staples removed tomorrow, how freaking exciting! I also have one more on my left side that is the smallest of all of them. *Warning: This image may contain the naked stomach of a morbidly obese man. Viewer discretion is advised.*

    Driving

Mine really had to do with the pain meds. I was not to drive if I was taking them. Luckily I stopped taking them right out of the hospital. My instructions were no pain meds and not until you felt comfortable stomping your foot on the ground. They don't want you to hesitate stomping on the brakes.
  22. Hang in there Kelly! I know liquids are not easy. I'm 12 days out and clearly remember the mental torment. How about TV? I had no clue there were so many food commercials on TV! Once you get back to work and start a routine things tend to get better. I'm drinking 2 Protein shakes a day during work and coming home to blend up some Soup. I also made some homemade soup from the "Eating Well After Weightloss Surgery" book and used it for 4 days after (froze it in these little 3 oz containers). After you start tasting real food again things get a little easier. I also think you win a battle with your mind at some point. It seems that my mind has finally come to accept that I'm making a change. I'm looking forward to the journey! Also, Jello and I do not get along now for some reason. I got a bunch of it before surgery and haven't touched it. Also got some stage 1 babyfood. I'll take a sip of the fruit every once in awhile just to taste something other then Protein shake & Water.

    Still Very Nauseated

They had to change my to phenergan before my nausea went away. However, this was only while in the hospital and I haven't had any issues since. I wish you luck on getting it under control. It is no fun!

Surgery Tomorrow -- What To Expect?

I checked in a PATT and went up to the staging area very quickly. This was a small area that was walled on 3 sides with a pull back curtain. I then took off my clothing and put on the gown and got on the bed. I stayed there for about an hour watching TV, meeting with anesthesia, and seeing my surgeon. As soon as I talked to anesthesia a nurse came in and gave me some medicine that she said would help me relax. Needless to say she was right. I was loving life! I can't tell you how much time passed between then as I really didn't have a sense of it. A nurse came in and said it was time to go. I said my goodbyes and away we went. I was rolled into the OR and asked to hop on the table. I laid back and everyone was very calming. I got to meet my surgical assistant for the first time. They attached the arm rests to the table which made me feel better. They also laid these wonderfully warm blankets on top of me. I then remember him saying that it was time to go to sleep and placing the mask over my face. It was maybe a 3 second count before I was out. I then remember waking up and my stomach hurting. As soon as I started to wake up the nurse put the pain pump switch in my hand and told me to press it if I needed it. I was pressing the heck outta that thing. I remember the tones. 1 tone for meds, 2 if it wasn't time yet. I however had that nice reaction to the anesthesia and was severely nauseated. I constantly told my nurse that I was going to throw up. Of course this wasn't true as there was absolutely nothing in my stomach. They tried a few different medicines on me until we settled on phenergan. This really helped and just made me sleep. I was told that I was in post op for 3 hours before being sent to my room. I honestly didn't feel it was that length of time but I was very out of it. Be prepared that the first few hours after are nothing fun. However, I think if I wouldn't have had the reaction that I would have been able to walk and move around within 2 hours as everyone says. I was not hitting the pain pump after the first 12. My pain level always stayed under 5. Good luck and well wishes on a speedy recovery!
