    Tortillas

I know we need to limit our carbs, but when were you able to eat a soft flour tortilla?
  2. Hello all, I mentioned this is my introductory post, but I am also haiving VSG in hopes of being able to finally conceive. I am 31 years old and I have been married since I was 18. My husband and I have not used birth control in 11 years. During the past 11 years have been through a variety of infertility tests and treatments including clomid, injectible hormone replacement, and one IUI. Through all this it was determined that I do not ovulate. I have regular periods, though they are 34-36 days apart. When last tested my husband was on the low end of normal in regard to his sperm count and motility. Since then, he is 18 months post-op from Gastric Bypass, having lost 215 pounds. The doctors say my uterus is beautiful, my fillopian tubes are open, I produce eggs, but just do not ovulate. This has been a very painful struggle. I know that the sleeve may not solve my problem, but the doctors think that losing weight, along with some medical intervention, will give me my best shot at conceiving. I cannot afford IVF so I am praying this will work. I do have a question though, what form of birth control did you use while you are losing? I sort of would love to go on birth control because my periods are HORRIBLE. I have very heavy periods with terrible cramps, so some relief from that sounds wonderful for awhile, but I have this fear that taking birth control pills will somehow hurt my chances to get pregnant when I start trying. I have been married for a long time and the thought of condoms is NOT appealing. I would love to hear your responses.
  3. I was sleeved on 3/9 and so far it has been a horrible experience. I had a lot of nausea at the beginning and really did not tolerate eating or drinking. Last weekend I was readmitted to the hospital for dehydration and intense stomach acid issues. I had a swallow test and an EGD and the doctors say everything is fine. I am still burning up with acid everyday. I can feel it swishing in my stomach. I contantly dry heave or spit up foam. Today it felt like I had to burp but then I just started spitting up and could not stop. It was the consistency of egg whites and i could barely breath while i coughed this stuff up. It was very, very scary. Drinking makes me queasy and I can eat very very little. I take 40 mg of omeprazole a day and have tried protonix and carafate too. Tomorrow I go to the doctor to discuss my options. Do I have ANY hope of this getting better? I am miserable, so much so if changing to RNY will really make me feel better I would seriously consider it. I chose sleeve because I thought it was the best choice but this has been a nightmare.

    Small request

When you post what you are eating for each day can you post how far out post-op you are? That would help us newbie sleevers know what you can eat at certain points post op.
  5. So I am over 3 weeks post-op and am still having these dry heaving episodes that are only getting worse. I feel like there is a brick in my stomach that just aches. Anti nausea meds do nothing. I can't eat and am having trouble drinking because my stomach just hurts. I go in for an upper GI and swallow test tomorrow and I am really scared. Can anyone tell me what to expect or offer some encouragement. Right now my vsg experience is just not going as I hoped.

    Please help

Had my upper GI and barium swallow test and it was fine, no leaks. The doctor did say that the opening into my stomach looked a little narrow so we wants to do an endoscopy to check it so I got checked into the hospital for fluids (I was quite dehydrated) and to get scoped. Probabaly will be here till Monday. Hopefully by the time I leave I will have an answer to why I feel so bad.

No fever at all, just this aching pain in my gut.

    Please help

Yes I have been taking a PPI since I came home. I just want to feel good and actually eat something. I am so weak and tired all the time.
  9. I am worried I am never going to feel normal again. Ia still have a lot of gas issues and was having acid issues so my doctors told me to take my prilosec 2 times a day. I hate Protein shakes so I want to get my protein from food but I can still only eat maybe 5 bites of anything. I am finally getting almost all my Fluid, I had trouble finding something I could really tolerate but I found ice cold Water with a few drops of lemon juice is really good. Everytime food is in front of me I am terrified of how it will make me feel. My doc said I could have toast so I tried some cheese toast last night and it made me feel awful, definitely not ready for bread. I also go into fits of dry heaves, not really nausea exactly, but my gag reflex is really high and I think sometimes I dry heave to try to get some of the gas out. I feel like my stomach is "off" almost all the time. Sometimes it is a dull ache sometimes I can't really explain it. I did have bad sinus drainage last week which I felt really set me back because it really upset my stomach. Sometimes I think the more I don't eat the harder it is when I do. I hate being terrified of food. I just want some semblance of normalcy. Right now I am feeling like a failure.
  10. Well I think I found part of my problem. I don't think I can tolerate artificial sweetener. About 20 minutes after I had some tea with sweet and low I started dry heaving. As soon as I drank it it stated feeling weird in my stomach. Same thing happens when I drink crystal light. Apple juice and water with plain lemon does not do that. I was also able to eat a whole piece of shaved deli roast beef. Tonight do not feel nearly as "yucky" as I have the past week.
  11. Last night I had another very painful bout of dry heaving last night. I usually do not have real nausea with it, it just hits me. I woke up with a dull ache in my stomach which has become pretty regular. I don't know if that is hunger or something else.
  12. That is also a problem, I hate yogurt and cottage cheese. I ate broccoli and cheese soup tonight and I think I ate 6 small spoonfuls before that painful gas bubble hit. It sucks I just wish I could eat without it being painful.
  13. I am two weeks post-op and I get those EXACT pains after one bite or sip of anything. Doc told me it is normal and eventually it will go away. He said to take my gas x or the gas relief drops that are for babies. He said you can't overdose so to take as much as I needed. I just made a post about this yesterday because I needed some reassurance that it would eventually go away.
  14. I am two weeks out from surgery and I am still having gas issues. Every time I take a sip if liquid, no matter how small, I get this air bubble that come s up and presses against my chest. It make drinking veer hard. This also happens when I eat. The dic said this is normal and will go away, but I need a little reassurance.
  15. Sad thing is, I can't even burp...it just comes up and presses against my chest. It is so painful and happens when I eat too.
  16. Today has been a terrible day. I had my surgery on 3/9 and this weekend I went to a cat show where my husband and were showing one of our cats. It was local but it involves a lot of walking, though my husband did most of the work and I mostly stayed sitting down at our cage and just walked to rings when my cat was being judged. It was two days and it really took a lot out of me, it is the most activity I have done since surgery. The problem is my allergies decided to flare up this weekend too so yesterday and today I have had a horrible scratchy throat and it is making the thought of eating sound even more gross then it normally is. The throat is making everything taste off more than usual and making it hard to drink today. I also have a pain in the left side of my back that sort of feels like gas pain and hurts when I breath too deeply, but I am not sure if it's gas or just pain from doing too much yesterday. I almost feel worse today that a couple days after surgery. Sorry to be so negative, I just needed to vent, over my horrible day, hopefully I will feel better tomorrow.

    Surgery on Thrusday

Worst: gas pain and nausea Best: resting and being waited in by your family.

    Hard day today

I actually breed Bengal cats. We show all over the southeast. We only showed one this weekend because I could not really help. I also have a Siberian kitten that I will be showing soon. There are TICA cats shows all over, you should go to one. The cats hated being kicked out of the bedroom after my surgery. My husband bought me an awesome thermos that keeps stuff hot or cold for 24 hours so I made a batch of hot tea to keep by my bed. Ithink the pain is gas too, how long will this gas last, it feels like it will never go away. I did eat an egg, but all my drainage made it taste gross.

    Worried

Thanks! I am going to get to goal before trying, but I can't wait for that day. Being the fat girl is hard enough, but also being the " you've been married for 13 years and don't have kids girl" really sucks!

Right now I don't want any food. I am not hungry. I can tell you my husband enjoys food at holidays, but that is the great thing about surgery, you physically can only eat so musc. My husband occasionally overeats, but his brain has adjusted to what his pouch can hold. His attitude has changed, the thought of gorging himself disgusts him. Right Now I am forcing myself to eat, nothing really sounds good at all. If the thought of giving up food really sounds too hard, wait, think about it. Wls is a total life change, you have to be ready for it.

    Worried

With both of you having BMI's over 40 you are MUCH more likely to have a health issue because of your weight than to have problems with the surgery. Both my husband and I were/are overweight. We got married when I was 18 and he was 22. We balooned up together over 11 years of marriage. My husband had terrible knee and back pain, high blood pressure through the roof, and sleep apnea so bad the techs wondered how he was not already dead considering how many times he stopped breathing during the night. His older brother had a heart attack at the age of 40 and that was a major wake up call. He had surgery 18 months ago. At the time our insurance only covered band and gastric bypass so he chose bypass. He weighed 457 pounds prior to his pre-op diet. He now weighs 245. He had no complications and is now happily in maintenance and eats whatever he wants, just in MUCH smaller amounts. Pain in his joints...gone. High blood pressure...gone. Sleep apnea...gone. There is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that he would have died prematurely due to one of his health issues. Due to job changes and other circumstances I could not have my surgery yet. Lucky for me, our new insurance covered sleeve and I have my surgery on March 9th, last week. I will not sugar coat it, I had a very rough first couple of days with gas pain and some nausea. I am struggling to get my fluids, TOTALLY missing my straw! Do I regret doing it, not in a MILLION years. I know I am on my way to a healthier life. I want to jog with my husband, I want to get rid of blood pressure pills, and I want to be able to have a baby. My infertility doctor firmly believes much of my infertlity is due to my weight. Next month is my 13th wedding anniversary and we have not used birth control in 11 years. My only regret is that we did not do this earlier. That I wasted so many years of my life on failed diet after failed diet. This surgery is VERY safe, I was much more scared of not living a full life, of my husband having a heart attack or dying in his sleep, or me never knowing the joy of being a mother. THOSE things scared the dickens out of me, not the surgery. WLS saved our lives and I will never regret it.

What VSG doctor to Choose ?

My doc here in Birmingham AL charges 14500 for cash pay. I had a hard time with nausea and gas the first few days ( I was sleeved on 3/9), but am doing much better now. Tonight I ate about 4 bites of egg salad and 3 bites of mushed baked potato. These were little bites too!even though the first days were hard I KNOW it will only get better and I am on my way to a better life.
  23. I ventured into eating mashed potatoes for the first time tonight. I ate almost a whole little mini cup of applesauce earlier today so I was feeling confidant. I started eating and focused on taking small bites and going slow. I had hardly eaten 4 pretty small bites and I stated feeling like I had to burp. I tried to burp and it felt like I mites "vurp" if you know what I mean. My stomach did not really feel full but I stopped. Is this what full feels like? I am so used to eating to past full I don't know how to recognize what full feels like now. Can you guys describe what your full feeling is?
  24. That is exactly what I felt like, like I needed to burp, I tried, but got the feeling that some of the food would come back up. I decided to stop to be on the safe side. It is so weird. I cannot wrap my brain around getting full from 4 small bites of mashed potatoes.
  25. My date was 3/9. I was really afraid to start eating because I did not want to eat too much and hurt myself, I just need some descriptions of what full feels like. I am glad I am not the only one with these feelings!
