I know exactly what you mean. Ever since I started the liquid diet before surgery it has been like that. Something to do with eating much smaller amounts more frequently I think.

How long did it take for your incisions to heal? I am two weeks out and so far only the smallest incision has completely lost its scab. My abdomen is also has purple freckles from all of the heparin shots. I hope this is all cleared up within the next month or so.

I am 14 days out from surgery and I have lost about 20 pounds from the pre-surgery weigh in and 30 pounds since I started the pre-surgery diet.

I am feeling better when I take the acid blocker. It stops the late night and early morning burn.

I am 10 days post surgery and I am starting to get persistent heartburn at night. Antacids give me lots of gas which I think would make the problem worse. I have prescription and over the counter PPI's from the last time I had heartburn. Any one else experiencing this? What do you take for it?

I spoke to the surgeon Wednesday. He said the acid reflux was probably because I did not puree the yogurt or cottage cheese I was eating. He did not prescribe an acid blocker, but I can always get it OTC.

I took some otc omeprazole before bed last night and that seemed to help. I will meet with the surgeon on Wednesday. I will ask him for a prescription for more omeprazole.

I know my surgeon is a very cautious. He had me stop all NSAIDs a week before and a month after the surgery. He also prescribed 5ml heparin shots every 8 hours for 14 days after the surgery. I had to administer one just before the operation. Totally freaked me out since my heart rate spiked when he told me to do it. I have gotten completely comfortable giving myself the shots. Quick in with no pain and only a little burn after I withdraw the needle. Is my surgeon the only one to require these heparin shots?

Gout flare-up before and during VSG
PatrickG posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my VSG on Friday Feb. 4. For two weeks before I was on the 800 calorie per day liquid diet. I lost about 10 lbs quickly, which triggered gouty arthritis in my left ankle. I was OK pain wise until I had to stop ibuprofen 1 week before surgery. I tried to tough it out on tylenol but I ended up going to urgent care on Monday. I got an outbrake dose of colchicine. My ankle was OK for two days but on the day of the surgery it was throbbing again. The surgeon remarked to my wife that my blood pressure dropped 50 points when they put me under. She replied "of course it was because he was in pain!". The surgeon put me on a two week course of colchicine. Today is my first day I am trying to get off of the hydrocodone and my ankle is still sore. -
I had my VSG performed on Friday Feb 4. Since the surgery I have been sweating profusely off and on. I think it might be from the pain meds. Did anyone else experience the cold sweats from taking their pain meds?

Thanks for the info. I will try that once the surgeon clears me to use NSAIDs again.
