All things considered, it isnt about the calories or the sugar. its about the bubbles. Those bubbles given enough expansion and contraction have the ability to distend(stretch) your sleeve. If that happens you will be able to eat more and more, thus drinking more and more of the bubbly beverages and the cycle continues. My thing is, and this is just an opinion, youve gone through so much, and if you live in the US youve paid quit a bit of money for this sleeve. Youve been to hell and back why ruin it? You are free to do as you wish, just remember what got you into the "i need weight loss surgery" category.

Well, its not physically possible to binge eat with a sleeve. Thats assuming you dont like vomiting. The strong desires for food will be gone due to the fact that the part of your stomach that controls the hormone releases indicating hunger have been removed. If food is your comfort for something that you are emotionally making up for, not to be harsh but definitely consider meeting with someone who can help you address those issues. I say this, not to be rude or condescending but, statistics show that people who undergo WLS and arnt emotionally stable tend to run into major issues emotionally. No harm in putting first things first.

*7* Truths Post-Op
chicagoanthony replied to BZButterfly79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) I still get hungry feelings...after 5 hours of not eating 2) i am having regular bowl movements 3) I still hate Protein shakes, but im getting by. 4) I can eat eggs 5) I eat around 5oz per meal 6) most of my back pain has subsided 7) blood pressure came in today at 120/75(without medication) 2 weeks to the day post op. -
Well, give this a shot 10oz skim milk=10g Protein 1/3cup dried milk=8g of protein 1 bag of swiss miss hot cocoa mix=1g protein just about 20grams of protein in 10oz of liquid the Protein shakes weren't sitting well with my stomach, so i tried this and the nutritionist said it was a good idea. Do this 3x a day and BAM 60g of protein Also, if you can try to add 2oz of tuna into your diet thats around 10g of protein. possibly some cheese thats 4-8g protein. my surgeon said, protein is my number one goal. so everything i eat or drink has some protein in it. 4 glasses of milk per day =80g of protein and everything else is just to get me to that 100g mark. Also throw some yogurt in that mix! hope this helps

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
chicagoanthony replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, i waited until the day before surgery to talk to my family. They were semi supportive. But, it was never up to them. People can poke and prod into your personal life with their opinions but at the end of the day these statements are true You have to live your life You have to make the most of your life You can never please everyone Do what you think is the best decision. Vertical sleeve hindsight is 20/20 but there are no "re-dos" In my opinion, you get one chance. just one, to make the most of this life. Give yourself the best fighting chance. Being obese, is a problem. If you can get it fixed, fix it . Be happy in your own skin, your the only one whos in it. -Tony -

Consider mixing in a supplement like "benefiber" with your protein shake or water. Fiber never hurt anyone -

Call & fight w/ BCBS URGENT- XP
chicagoanthony replied to honeyrubybee's topic in Insurance & Financing
My BMI was 75 with the following comfortabilities. Pre-Diabetes Hypertension sleep Apnea Venous Deficiency (causing swelling in my lower quadrant of my legs) i have BCBSIL PPO through my job so..they cant drop me. It took them 4 business days to give me the approval. If they keep giving you issues, dont forget the law is on your side. Consider a lawyer. Just a suggestion. -

My grand total came to just under $22,000 USD. -
I suppose ive been lucky with food. Things taste the same. Better actually. I even flirted with ice cream today during the super bowl (dont worry it was a tea spoon). And it actually tasted better to me, probably because i actually took the time to taste and and not just woofed it down.

No Restriction with Fluids
chicagoanthony replied to Elyse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My liquid problems, are usually my fault. If i drink normally, i have no issues. If i try and gulp i can get around 2 gulps down and then that restricted feeling kicks in for a few minutes. Everyone is different. So far, ive been lucky to not have any nausea. -
Diet Post op questions
chicagoanthony replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, i think he is really just testing your resolve. If it is an ***-not to sound rude- but their goal is to minimize care so keep that in mind please. Again, im not faulting you or your hospital/insurance of choice; just keep in mind there is a profit motive. You should be on regular food by 2months out -
Going to Australia - NSV
chicagoanthony replied to mellifrits's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am truly jealous. Aus has been on my list for years (im only 21). Actually, Aus is one of my motivations for being sleeved! I applied for a visa which was declined due to my BMI. 6months later i was sleeved . Have a great time -
10 days post op - dull taster and sensitive sniffer
chicagoanthony replied to Newme52's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on 1/31/11 and so far i havnt had any of that. My MD's did warn about it though and it should pass over time. However, there is the chance that its permanent. However, my gag reflex is really, really sensitive. If i try to recollect having my breathing tube put in i start to gag, or past times ive been sick. I dont know, kinda weird. Also @ fluffy I dont know anyone who stays on the puree diet that long. You may want to get a second opinion from a different staff. my schedule goes like this 7 days after operation-puree day 7-21 soft food day 21-forever normal food chewed throughly. -
Hey, congrats on your success! Beer, ah beer. Well my nutritionist and surgeon say the following Carbonated beverages should be avoided at all costs because they have the ability to stretch out your stomach OVER TIME. This translates too having a beer once in while wont do anything adverse. But as a patient 2 years out, you know about the gas These surgeries are meant to enhance life, make it more enjoyable for a longer period of time. Enjoy life -Tony P.S: Have your beer youll be just fine (non medical personal opinion)
