Unfourtunatly, this is a bit controversial..but thoughts on consuming Marijuana PsOp?
StacyS replied to pistolpete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pete...from my observation experiences, you should buy a vaporizer and use it that way. It takes all the THC out of the plant and heats it up into the tube and you inhale it. No smoke what-so-ever!! Totally natural n much healthier than rolling a joint or packing a pipe. FYI...my father has been ill for many years and this is how his doctor recommended he use it. So, you all don't think I'm a pro or something...lol... However, I do agree that you probably shouldn't use it til ur at least at goal...even then, why risk it? You just might gain it all back....idk, just a thought -
Approved in less than 24 hours! LOVE BCBS today!
StacyS replied to Lanette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I submit paperwork for approval on 4/11....I'll keep you posted -
I know exactly how you feel... I'm at the end of my 3 month supervised visits and will be submitting paperwork to insurance on the 11th. I have that same state of panic like you! "What if I get denied?" However, my patient advocate at my surgeon's office is so sweet and a go-getter and she told me if they give her any push back about approving me, she's gonna open a can of Whoop Ass on them and make sure it gets approved. She assured me that I meet all the requirements for insurance that should be no reason for a denial or even any push back.... She has assured me and my state of panic that everything will be ok and I'll get the approval!! My tentive surgery is 4/26!

Hi... I'm right at 40 BMI and actually had to gain weight in order to get to 40. I have BCBS-Fed and they require a 2 year weight history. Well, I have the history however my history only reflects me being at 36-38 BMI and I was wondering if anyone was denied by their insurance due to not being the 40BMI for more than 2 years??? I dont have any co-morbidities but I do have GERD and a Hiatal Hernia but no diabeties or HBP. Any experience??

Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but thank you for the info just in case!!

Yes, wait!!! Its your sister and who better to be by your side especially being a surgery virgin!!! -
O no, that's not very encouraging...but the fact that it was your employer rather than insurance who denied you gives me hope. I'm happy you can afford to self pay as I cannot if I'm denied!!

If I had the extra cash I wouldn't subject myself to the insurance hoops, but I have no choice. Be thankful you can skip all the requirements!! I'm envious!! My 3 monthsis almost up and ready for submission to insurance in april...

Places to get liquid protein samples
StacyS replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Are there ANY unflavored protein powders that we can use when cooking/baking? I read that the Whey powder clumps and so you cannot use it in anything hotter than 130... but I'd love to add some protein powder to my soups and dinners. Are there any out there? -
Soda Question
StacyS replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No supervised diet for you?? Oh, I'm so jealous!! Maybe it's different for me since I'm in California and the rules are different by state? I'm not sure. But yes, I submitted paperwork for approval back in Jan and was told I needed a 3 month supervised diet with the surgeon's nutritionist before approval can be given. You're so lucky!!! -

I have Federal BCBS too... Have you been approved yet? Have you completed your 3 month "supervised diet"? -
WOW... what a difference!! You look amazing! Keep up the good work.... BTW, what's a gastric balloon?
-
Protein first!! Are you following the plan? If you're not following the plain, you are going to gain weight! Make sure you eat correctly... Protein first, veggies second, and if you have room, starch. If you're eating a lot more carbs than usual, you are going to crave more carbs. Stop and think. Start making a food journal and see what your paterns are and then make the correct changes!! You didnt do this for nothing, and you surely didnt do this to simply give up and gain the weight back!! Pick yourself up and get back on track!! You can do it!!!

I have Mirena too and its cuz of the high protein ketosis. It will go back to normal....nothing to worry about

I decided to open up about my VSG at work.
StacyS replied to brazcan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a very open person... at first I tried to keep it under wraps but I simply couldn't. I'm not sleeved yet but the amount of support I've received already from my co-workers has been great. They check in with me once a month to see if I've got my surgery date yet and even talk to me about people they know who has had WLS and their journey. It's great!! I have some wonderful people here. Of course there is always a crabby apple in the bunch and once I spoke to her in a firm tone and told her I'd been struggling all my life and this was my last resort, she got the hint and has only been encouraging ever since. But, I'm not private at all.... I just couldnt hold it in. -
I have an IUD and simply love it! No periods, no cramping, no weight gain, no side effects!!! And, I'm safe for 5 years! I would highly recommend you talking to your doctor about one! It's awesome!!!!!

How to avoid the 6 month diet requirement?
StacyS replied to kaneohegirl's topic in Insurance & Financing
In all honesty, I dont think there is a way around it. I have BCBS-Fed and they required a 3 month diet. I was all excited since I had done a doctor's supervised diet with pills and B12 shots from 8/09-3/10 and when I submitted my paperwork for approval they said that they wanted the diet 3 months 'prior' to the request for surgery... AND they wanted it with the surgeon's nutritionist, not an independant "diet doctor". So, to my dismay, I had to start the dreaded 3 month process!! Luckily I will be having my 2nd appt for the second month next week and then in April my last appt. Once my appt is over in April, paperwork will be sent that day to insurance and hopefully surgery in late April or early May. It really does suck to have to wait, especially since we want it NOW.... but in this 3 month time frame, I have really done a lot of research and have gotten really educated about the sleeve and went from wanting the band to KNOWING I want the sleeve!!! So, use this time to get really familiar with your eating habits, make the appropriate lifestyle changes now, and focus on learning as much as you can!! The time will fly by... You'll See!!!!
