When I had my surgery done, I was given a book about lap band surgery that was written by a prominent Australian lap band surgeon. In the chapter about food and drink it stated that at first they told their patients not to drink as it was just empty calories, but that through research with their clients they found that a glass of wine, especially a glass of red wine was actually beneficial to weight loss. It stated that he allowed 7 glasses of red wine per week. :clap2: I've enjoyed a glass of wine since surgery on occasion, and my favourite right now is Yellow Tail Chiraz. Yummy! I've been craving a bottle of beer the last few days, it's just been so hot and sticky, but I'm afraid of the fizzies. So I'll stick with my occasional glass of wine

Jacqui, I have a silly question for you! Do you drink the glass of wine with the meal or after a half an hour or so? I was given a book by my lap band surgeon by Paul O'Brien who states that a glass of wine with a meal is fine and in fact can be beneficial. (He states especially an Australian chiraz or merlot ) but he doesn't differentiate if you should drink it after your solids or with. Thanks for your input! Lisa

Your food plan of choice.

LadyBlue, What were the names of the books that you purchased. I've been looking for some good ones, but am afraid to purchase because I don't see a lot of reviews. Thanks! Lisa -
I was banded Friday July 6th at SWLC, so I'm a little over 72 hours post-op. At first I had quite severe back pain, which I was expecting. What I wasn't prepared for is the horrible abdominal pain I'm having. Mostly around the port area. I'm also having a hard time getting fluids in. The fluids go down fine, I'm just experiencing a lot of nauseau. Is this normal? I read so many posts where people seemed to bounce back to their normal selves almost right away. I've had 2 c-sections and I was really not expecting this to be so painful. If you asked me tomorrow which operation I'd rather have I'd most definitely op for the section

I was banded by Dr. Cobourn last Friday (July 6th) and I too cannot say enough about him. He's very open and caring and all the staff at the clinic made me feel comfortable and cared for. Tammy told me before my surgery last week that she and Sue are changing the post-op diet slightly and I was to do 24 hours Water only, 24 hours clear Fluid, then full fluid until this Friday, then 1 week puree, and then 1 week soft food. So basically each stage has become just one week. A couple of days ago I thought there would be no way I'd even want to look at pureed food on Friday, but now I'm feeling much better and think the added nutrient intake will help speed recovery. Good luck

Thanks for the support everyone! I'm happy to say I feel soooooo much better now I bounced back so quickly from both my sections that I truly thought this was going to be easy. Guess it's the difference of hormones and taking somebody out as opposed to no hormones and putting something in

Guess I've been lucky in my dealings with the CRA. Sorry to hear about all the bad experiences. Weenette and sg_sg if you call the 1-800 they will extend the time to submit the receipts.

Thanks Louise! I was expecting back pain because I knew there would be a lot of gas from having the surgery. I had really bad back/gas pains when I had both of sections. I'm glad to hear that the pain will eventually subside!

Don't be scared It's normal for receipts to be asked for for a suddenly large medical claim. Once you send your receipts you'll be all set! Doddie, sorry for your experience, but not everyone who works for CRA is like that. I doubt you could interact with any company who employs that many people and not hit a bad experience every once in awhile.
-
Was it just a letter asking you to provide receipts for medical expenses claimed? If so, it is not an audit but simply a routine check. This often happens with things like medical expenses, tuition, rent, child care expenses. Just make sure you send in your receipts on time and you should have absolutely no issue.

Congrats on starting your pre-op diet! I get my SF Davincci syrups at wwwthelowcarbgrocery.com They have tons of awesome flavours.

Hi :welcome: I think it would probably depend what kind and how many surgeries you have had. I've had my gallbladder removed and have a small 3 inch or so incision from that and have had two C-Sections and Dr. C said that doing the procedure would be no problem. Good Luck
-
Wow, you're so close! I'm not a preop dieter yet with 8 or so weeks until my surgery date. It feels like I should be dieting or something though. Feels kinda weird not having anything do to but wait Best of luck to you!

That's awesome! I can't wait to get there myself

Hi  I'm new to the board, and I've just started to seriously consider lap banding....well more than seriously consider, I'm ready to take the plunge. I've booked 2 consults, one with TLBC and one with Dr. Cobourn at SWLC. The appointment with Dr. Cobourn is a consult with him. I get to meet him and ask questions. I just spoke to Caryl at TLBC and the appointment there is with Kathy and if I choose to book the surgery I can either wait and hope to catch the Dr. in between surgeries or come back another time. I explained to her that I've done all my research and that basically I'm trying to make sure I feel happy and confident with the surgeon. I also explained that I was coming from out of town and that I had to take time off of work to come, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference. I guess my question is, is this normal. Did those of you that booked at TLBC not actually meet the Dr. before you booked your surgery? Thanks and although I haven't posted much the information I've found on this board has been so helpful in making my decision

I'm sure the time will go quickly, but it just seems like forever to wait... I think since I liked Dr. Cobourn, I booked it so I wouldn't allow myself to change my mind. Also, Dr. Yau sounds like a super awesome doctor and I think if I would have gone to meet him too, I would have liked him just as much and then I would be agonizing over my decision. I'm nuts that way :girl_hug: Now I'm off to make a ticker, although it'll kill me to put my weight out there for all to see. But, I think it's a good step in taking control and I reallllly like the tickers. They're cute

Thanks for the replies everyone :girl_hug: Dr. Yau sounds like an awesome guy so I'm sure I would have gotten to speak with him. My first consult happened to be with Dr. Cobourn yesterday and I really liked him, so I went ahead and booked it :faint:

Does anyone know the cost at Blue Water? I'm just starting my research and I live in Chatham, so Blue Water would be a good option.
