8th Week Surgiversary -- Time is Flying!

Congrats on your surgiversary! My 2 month was 3/11/11...so we are pretty close! I loved cleaning out my panites drawer....getting rid of all those that kept falling down! Have you called your surgeons office about the grey under your eyes? It wouldn't hurt...maybe you are low on a vitamen or something. Best of luck with your sleeve!

8th Week Surgiversary -- Time is Flying!

Way to go on your surgiversary! I had my surgery on 1/11/11. I haven't gone through my closet yet, but I have gone through my panties drawer and got rid of a ton of them! It isn't very becoming when your pulling your drawers up all the time! Did you call your surgeon about the grey under your eyes? You might be lacking some vitamen or something. It wouldn't hurt to call and check. Alibrat

    Gave my husband the finger...

I agree with NewNatalie....there are gonna be many days when you are faced with tempations. I have 2 kids and a husband that are having a lifestyle change too. I am 2 months post op and the 1st month was pretty easy since I didn't want anything they were having. I made them lasagna, pizza, enchiladas, you name it I was good. Now at 2 months I am trying some new things, in very small quantities. Some nights it drives me crazy having my husband snacking on lord knows what...and I just look at him and ask him to stop. I am also teaching my kids portion control. They get their meal - and if they want 2nds, it is only on veggies. No more extra meat or starches. I don't want my daughters to have to go though what I have been though and hope I am teaching them new healthy habits. Best wishes on your surgery! Alibrat
  5. I joined a gym Jan 30th. I received 2 sessions with a trainer. 1st session was a work out session, the 2nd session was with a different trainer and he proceeded to talk to me about my diet, even after I had told him several times that I had VSG. I am 4 weeks out now and need some advice. Currently I eat the following: B- Protien shake - 30 g protien L - 2oz ham and 1 mozarella stick D - Something like 2 oz of chicken, or some refried Beans with cheese. I am supposed to start adding some soft veggies this week. He wants me to do this: Breakfast - protien shake Snack - hardboiled egg lunch - 1/2 chicken breast with spinach Snack - 1/2 cup cottage cheese dinner - 4 oz talapia with veggies Snack - pudding or yogurt Just looking at his list makes me feel sick...there is just no way to eat all that. I am confused, because my surgeon has said ABSOLUTELY no snacking. So my question is...do I add some Snacks (much smaller than what the trainer suggested) to my current meals. He went into the schpeal about your body will burn the muscle if there is no fat in your diet. And that I would not have enough energy to do my workouts. I am so confused...I am going to the gym 4 times a week. I do 30 minutes on treadmill and then I do a few of the machines. I am there about 45 minutes in total. Ali

    Trainer's nutrition advice

Thank you all for your responses! I appreciate this board so much to get instant feedback! It looks like I need to call my NUT to discuss this with her.
  7. I just found these shakes at Costco today...Premier Nutrition - High Protien Shakes - they have 30 grams protien, 1 gram sugar and 5 carbs! An easy go to drink for those crazy mornings where I am the last one fed and is running out the door! They taste pretty good too...not too thick or sweet.

When to go back to work?

I took 1 week off from a part time office job...went in and worked 3 hours and was totally exhausted. But went back 3 days later and worked 4 hours and it was better. I did take 3 weeks off from my other part time job...teachers aide for adult education...and just went back on Tuesday. I was tired, but it was good to be back in the swing of things!
  9. I am getting frustrated...well first, let me tell you that I did something that I said I would not do, and that was weigh every day. I started the gym on Monday with a trainer, and have now been 3 days straight. I have or had lost about 22 lbs, but now the scale has me at just 20 lbs. A 2 lb gain in 3 days? I am just 3 weeks out from my surgery and on high protien drink for breakfast, sliced turkey/cheese stick for lunch and about a 3/4 cup of chili for dinner. So the calories and fat are rather low. It just makes me frustrated. I guess I need to stay off the scale and only weigh 1 x a week like my original plan was...but that scale makes me curious!

    Working out and gaining weight?

Yes!! Measuring, I was more focused on what the scale said...thanks for the reminder! I am going to do that and weigh just 1 time a week now. I am very diligant on getting my Water in, so I guess that is some of it too. Thanks Tiffykins!
  11. Welcome! Congrats on your surgery date! You will do great!
  12. The Benefiber sugar free chewables - 3 each, 3 times a day...worked wonders!

    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

Thanks... Thanks! I am excited! I am using Humalog, both in my pump and with shots. As far as my belly hurting, I would say that first week after surgery would be a little rough to put it back on...might be a little sore, but it wouldn't be a problem now.
  14. That is a cool tool, might have to check that out! I am about 11 days out as well. I usually can not eat what I am supposed to. Like I was supposed to eat 1/2 a cup of refried beans!!! Yeah, right. I ate about a 1/4 of a cup and waited and then drank the rest protien drink from lunch which was about 4 oz. I wasn't able to down a hard boiled egg, but a scrambled was much better. 1/2 a cup of yogurt or pudding with a scoop of protien drink mix in it makes a lot...I can only do 1/2 of it right now too. I guess it will get easier...but I stop when I am full.

    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

I am hoping that my blood sugars will be down low enough not to have to be on the pump...I am very insulin resistant, so time will tell. I am not on my pump, I have an appointment with my Indo in about 2 weeks, so we will regroup and decide what to do, if I continue with the pump or just shots 2 times a day. She will be exited with my weight loss so far. 17.5 lbs down in 9 days! Yeehaw!
  16. 38, sleeved 1/11/11...and doing great! Lost 17.5 lbs the 1st week!
  17. I was just wondering - how long did you wear your compression stockings once you returned home?
  18. Ali W

    Compression Stockings

My surgeon suggests 6 weeks - so I guess I will need to buy another pair...b/c I am so sure I will run these!

    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

Thanks - every day I think is great, the next day is greater! Ok, on the pump - I drastically brought my basal down the day before my surgery. I kept it on until right up until the surgery then removed it. I didn't put it back on, and was given insulin 2 times a day. I am staying on that right now, my bs's are high, but not as high and am continuing with shots 2 times a day. The hosptial monitored every 6 hours. I did do ok with the no eating. In fact I am not hungry at all. The liquid diet is ok...I hate the broth, but s/f jellow and popcicles are great! Hot herbal tea is awesome too. But I am so ready for some soft foods. Am I happy that my blood sugars are still high? No, but from what I read, it will take a little time for them to start leaveling out and am so happy that I will hopefully be off the pump forever!!! Ali
  20. Dr. Suni Cavasos was my surgeon, and the surgery was done at Foudation Surgical Hosipital in San Antonio, TX. It was a really nice hospital, private and all the nurses/tech's were excellent as well as Dr. Cavasos.
  21. They just did the table with me. No treadmill.

    Survived

I had surgery 1.11.11, I know that I had a "Pain Ball" injected in the main incision site. It may have been morphine. That was all for the pain meds, except what they may have given me during surgery. I was sent home with Tylenol w/ Codine, (I am allergic to vicodine) but have only taken it not for the pain, but for my aching back! I guess being on the operating table, and not being up and about like I am it caused me some back aches...lol.

    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

Just wanted to say Hi. I am new here. I had VSG 1.11.11. I am a severe insulian resistant diabetic on a pump for 10 years. Right now post op for 5 days, my blood sugars are still in the low 200's, but I am only taking 30 units of Humalog right now...scared of low blood sugars. I few other threads give me so much hope and confidence that my blood sugars will eventually get down or close to normal. Ali

    Diabetes

Thank you for this post. I had my sleeve done 1.11.11. I am very insulin resistant, taking at least 200 units of humalog a day on a pum and still uncontroled. My bs was 376 the morning of my surgery. It went down while in the hospital, and the day I left it was 135. Now home it is 190-250. It frustrates me, since I am still on liquid only. But hearing that it took a couple months, relieves me. And I know it takes time, I am just impatient! Lol.
