    Day 3 after surgery

I couldn't lie flat for about a week out. I had to sleep in the recliner in the living room because it was so hard to get comfy in bed. My home bed doesn't have all the neat adjustments that the hospital bed does. Also remember, that you are moving around more. I am sure your doing much more at home then your did in the hospital and your also not getting the pain meds like you did in the hospital. Take your time. Allow yourself time to rest. It was on day 6 that I felt remarkably better. I was doing pretty well the days before, but day 6 was a noticeable difference. We are all different. Just let your body tell you what it needs. I compared it to being in a car accident. The day of and maybe the next day, your okay; the day after that, you feel like you were hit by a semi-truck.

    Drinking Water

I've been mixing everything 50/50 with water. Gatoraid, crystal light... ect.
  3. Can you clarify... is it drainging from your incision above your belly button or your actual belly button. Is there an incision in your belly button? Or do you think it could be water from your shower? I don't know, just tossing a few things out there.

    Real Meals protein powder

I have not tried that. I get the EAS Myoplex 5lb bag with 23g protein for $28.00 at Sam's Club. Best price by volume I have found and the chocolate tastes like Carnation Instant. Yummy.
  5. One thing I had to learn was the sensation of full verse of the sensation of I am sitting in a way that my stomach is not allowed full space for whatever to travel. Sometimes I get this really sudden full almost a "backed-up" feeling and I have to sit straight up and tilt my pelvis forward so that whatever is trying to make it through can have the most room to make that turn in the lower part. A few seconds later I feel better. Just my experience. Sleeved Dec 29.
  6. I asked my surgeon just today how much volume the new stomach can hold. He told me 60-80cc(mL). One fl ounce is equal to just under 30mL. 1/4 cup is 2 ounces. So I figure I have about a 3 ounce stomach which is why 1/3 cup fills me pretty good. Start using measuring cups and see how much you are really eating. I have been eating right out of them as then there is no question as to how much I have.

    Smoking---Yikes!!!

I have been an off and on again smoker for 10 years. I got a really bad sinus infection in August that was so bad, I simply couldn't smoke. That lasted about 7 days and I figured at that point, I might as well quit. Which was awesome, since I was able to go to the first surgeon appt smoke free. It only takes 7 days for the chemical addiction to pass, the rest is physicological. My #1 hot spot to smoke was while driving. I had to replace the cig for a straw or something to hold in my hand and what not. At this point, I don't even crave. In fact I am the horrible reformed smoker always talking to my hubby about how he should quit and how he stinks from it and such. Good luck... If your willing to change your life with your weight, add the smoking in too. It's for the best.

    I don't feel that different...

Sleeved on 12/29, I was allowed phase 2 full liquids 5 days out. The broth felt good on my sore stomach, but I was ready for something more substantial. After my first 3 bites of cottage cheese, I was full. So give it time. Each surgeon has a different plan, but I am supposed to have cream of wheat and oatmeal on this phase too and I don't think I am ready for those yet. I also eat everything out of measuring cups right now. It just makes it so much easier to get used to portion sizes. My hospital gave me my tray with regular cups and bowls and I know it was 4 times what I was supposed to have. Made it hard to judge my new stomach.
  9. Today is day 6 out for me. I was not supposed to start full liquids until day 5, but I was so hungry and couldn't stand just broth anymore, that I had to have some cottage cheese (which is on my full liquid list) on night 4. I had 1/4 cup of C.C. and I felt so much better. I think I even slept the whole night after that. Now, when I wake in the morning, I am super hungry, but three bites of C.c. and I am full. The rest of the day, I only get minor hunger. And one or two bites does it for me. I remarked to my hubby today, that I am maybe eating 3 cups total of food in a day, where as before I could eat 4 cups in one sitting and come back for more 20 minutes later. I know I will ever go to a buffet again. There is simply no need for all that food. So I would say once you start on something more substantial, you will feel more fulfilled with smaller amounts. I have been doing my full liquids for 2 full days and usually 1/3 cup is comfortable for me. Before, I would feel like I was missing out with 1/3 cup food. It's great! I've been eating yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes I also eat out of measuring cups. It helps me to see what the actually serving sizes are and boy did I over eat in the past. Never realized how little food you actually need to survive.

    Surgery in 2 days

Hi, I was sleeved on Dec. 29. I had an early surgery time of 7:15 am, with check in at 5:15am. Yeah. I was tired, but grateful to be first. I spent about a half hour in the waiting room, then was brought back to a prep room. Undressed and gowned, peed in a cup for the pregnancy test, got my IV placed, and was given some meds for stomach acid. I waited there for about 45 minutes then was wheeled to preop holding. I was there for about another 45 minutes, where I talked with the anesthesiologist and surgeon. Given some more meds for my stomach and anxiety. Once wheeled to the O.R., I had to slide myself to the operating table, and then as soon as I laid down, they strapped my arms down and placed to anesthesia on almost immediately. After what seemed 5 minutes, I wake up in recovery. I don't remember too much pain. I had knee surgery 18 months ago and the pain waking up was way worse then this time around. I was moaning a bit, but pain was well managed. I remember hitting the pump button almost non stop and the nurses telling me it didn't matter how many times I hit it, I would only get something once ever 6 mins. I told them I didn't have a stop watch and I wasn't watching the clock so I am just going to keep hitting it. As soon as I was alert enough, I was taking up stairs and given more happy injections as well as that button firmly in my hand. I slept most of the first day. I was up almost all night. I stayed two days in the hospital. After the first 24 hours or so, I was taken off the Dilaudid pump and was given Lortab elixer and toradol injection. Today, being 5 days out, I have started to wean off the Lortab elixer and I even did some very, very light housework. I feel a hundred times better then Wednesday. One thing that hit me was how well I did feel after the surgery. I was amazed that I was walking around so soon after and that my hunger was instantly gone. 24 hours before, I was about to physically hurt my husband for cooking a grilled cheese for our son and letting the smell into the bedroom where I was hiding from food. The one incision site that hurt the most was over my belly button. They suture that one internally and so the suture pulls when you stand up or sit down. If you cough, sneeze, dry heave,ect..., press a pillow into your abdomen. It helps brace the muscles and incisions. 5 days out, most of that uncomfortable feeling from that site is gone for me. I don't know if you will read this before you go in since your procedure is tomorrow, but good luck. All will be fine. I am doing well and am pleased already with the results. I measure every thing out so I don;t over do it. I actually eat out of measuring cups right now, so I can concentrated on proper portion sizes. It really helps. What stunk about the hospital was that they didn't portion out the food for bariatric pts. They were normal portions and I over did it in the hospital. Once I came home and used the measuring cups, I am doing much better. Mylicon drops or gasx strips have also been a life saver for me. Gas happens and is super uncomfortable. Buy some. Again GL.
