    Pre-op Diet Day One...Starving!

don't cheat, because they want to get your liver fat deposits gone as much as possible. I was on 2 week liquid before, and my surgeon said when she got in there she could tell that I stayed legit during the fast and it made a world of difference in the surgery... If you're getting hungry, drink more crystal light or flavored Water, the hunger will pass....first 3 days are the hardest, but you'll make it....

January sleevers how are you doing?

I was sleeved on 1/5 and I just had my doctor followup today and got weighed for the first time since pre-fast. I'm down 46 pounds since Dec 19, so I'm really pleased so far. Want the weather to get better so I can get out and walk more...getting antsy!
  3. I had a cath tube....it was kinda a pain, but they do that to monitor the urine output and make sure you're not dehydrated. I was when I was in the hospital and they pushed a lot of fluids in me and I wasn't going. They threatened to keep me in if I didn't start "producing"...strangely enough I started "producing" the next morning (after I snuck a Water pill when they weren't looking)....I wasn't staying in there another few days. removal isn't a big deal, deep breath, blow and out it goes.....
  4. Tomorrow (1/5) is the day...hard to believe I started this Quest almost a year ago and the date is here. Nervous and scared of making it through surgery, after that I think I'm gonna love this. Thanks everyone for the encouragement and sharing of ideas. I've learned a great deal in the few weeks that I"ve been here, You all have been lifesavers. See ya all soon

    Post Op?

Definately don't forget the liquid pain killer, it's a bit ouchy the first few days. I'm 3 days out now and up and around, but I still get that kick in the guts feeling.

    Ready to Go

I am sleeved and I am home! a little rough here and there, taking the liquid vicodin and getting rest. Everyone has been so supportive, it's a great feeling to have so many people that think you're a brave soul for doing this, I guess it really is a bigger deal than most people think. Looking forward to posting in the POST op forum now..8)
  7. Hey everyone, I'm new to the board, and based on what I'm reading, I wish I would have found this place much sooner. I'm set up for VSG on January 5th and start my fast tomorrow. I've been scared out of my mind for weeks and playing pros and cons (Gee, I can't wait to lose weight, but I wish I could still eat this) I've finally come to the mindset that this surgery will make me more normal. As my doctor said "You shouldn't be able to sit down and eat a 12 inch subway sub, loaded with everything, chips and a drink!" I'm a 42 year old single Dad with a 10 year old daughter. She's one of my biggest supporters. Gonna go read more, but thanks for this forum so I know I'm not alone with what I've been feeling.

    Tracking Weight, Food and Exercise

I'm using myfitnesspal.com. I'm using Iphone, but I believe they do have it for Android. Works real nice update on the web or from your phone, syncs both sources automatically. it's done everything I've wanted to do so far.

    I'm getting so Scared......

My day is tomorrow and I'm scared too, but also just want to get it done so I can start moving down the path to actually eating something. Your feelings are normal, it's fear of the unknown and like everything else, I think we'll handle it just fine.
  10. Hang in there girl, I'm comin right after ya!

    For the singles out there

absolutely agree...it's part of who we are, but not the most important.
  12. I bought mine on Amazon.com, I ready to drink bottles and mix, it comes 3 cans to an order or 3 (4) pak bottles. it was cheaper than at the store, and they delivered it right to my house. Men don't shop, they procure.. http://www.amazon.com/Carnation-Instant-Breakfast-Nutritional-Chocolate/dp/B002BUBIW6/ref=pd_sim_gro_1
  13. Thank God I've been lucky with mine. I'm on day 7 and tomorrow is the pre surgery diet, Surgery is on Wednesday. I've been drinking my instant Breakfast, and drinking chicken broth when I get hungry and Jello to keep the chewing sensation going. Keeping the stomach full with liquid helps the hunger, I haven't really been hungry, but I'm wearing out the carpet walking to the bathroom....

    Mother in law

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I have an ex-Mother in Law who is a real witch. She tells my daughter that I'm having the surgery cause I'm too fat and lazy to actually exercise and lose weight, she takes every chance she gets to drop "Daddy may die from this surgery" on her so that she'll get upset and try to stop me from doing it, but it's pure jealousy. I think secretly that some people just want to keep fat people fat, like we don't deserve better in life. As long as your husband is on board with what you're doing and doesn't listen to her trying to undermine YOUR decision, it will be ok. In 6 months when you start dropping weight like a rock she may come around, and if not, you're better off for it, and she'll still be bitter, so let her..

    For the singles out there

Ok, I'm a single guy, divorced after 10 years of marriage, so I guess I'll toss in my 2 cents. Relationships are supposed to revolve around honesty, so be up front with it, don't act like you're a freak because you've had surgery, So many dates revolve around food, so you're going to have to cross that bridge. Go out to dinner, order a small dinner and do your routine. If he notices he may ask, and answer truthfully. If he cringes in fear in disgust, hey, you got a free meal out of it at least! Be honest, this is you, this is your new life. If you're in the relationship for awhile, they're gonna find out, and if you've lied, I personally, would be upset and wonder, "What else isn't she telling me the truth about".. When I've told my friends and co-workers everyone has been open and supportive of it, so if you're afraid of being judged, I think people are over that stigma.

    Liquid diet need advice

I'm on day 4 of my liquid diet and I'm drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast with a whey Protein kicker from GNC. I'm drinking tons of crystal light and when I get "hungry" I either drink more or eat some Jello, so far it's been going good. I know it's kind of short notice now, but perhaps you can get a different kind of protein supplement and mix it with something else...
  18. If your surgeon has decided to do the VSG, they should talk with your insurance company and explain why they are choosing that route. That's what happened with me, my insurance covered the Bypass but not a sleeve. My surgeon said that because I'm a big person the sleeve would work better for me and would be a quicker less risky surgery. They initially denied my sleeve, I signed papers for my surgeon to appeal on my behalf and it was done... Talk with your surgeon.
  19. You're not alone here, I think most of us have felt the way you do, Lord knows I have. People who don't understand why we want to have surgery to lose weight will never understand the absolute fear that we have of thinking, "Man, I'd love to go to a concert, but I'm afraid I won't fit in the seat", these are the same people who say "all you need is willpower", they don't understand and they won't. You need to do this for you, the side benefits are for your family. I'm lucky that everyone I've told so far is supportive of my decision and is excited for me. don't let them tell you this is the easy way out, it's not, it's a hard choice and hard work. This is a life changer. Go ahead and do it, I regret the time I wasted waiting.

    New to the board

Thanks for the replies! I've got my foods read (I think)..I have enough Carnation Instant Breakfast to float a battleship. I started my 8 day pre op fast this morning, so far so good. I've got my mashed potatoes, refried beans, soups etc for when I can start to eat again. I'm lucky that I am having mine done at Penn State Hershey, I got a "user manual" that helps me along with planning, cause Lord knows, I'm not a planner, but I'm going to have to get in that mode if I'm going to succeed with this.
