Vsg Overeating/purging -- Bulimia Or Inability To Cope With The Sleeve?!
sunshine6855 replied to Peony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Talk with your surgeon. I was having similar isses with only eating very little and throwing up. I did not purge deliberately but recently realized I could eat more and if it was too much I would throw up. I went to my md and he did an endoscopy and an upper GI study which showed Ihad a twist in my stomach. It formed a little pouch so it is acting like I still have the band. I am now in the process of geting ready for the bypass. I never wanted one but it is the fix for my problem and who wants to feel like the hsve a band with all its issues. Hopefully I will have the surg soon or I will have to wait til january cause I am going on a cruise for Christmas and I want to be on regular food. Hope you find out what the problem is. -
How do feel about the lapband now that you have had yours removed?
sunshine6855 replied to Becca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hate the band. I lost very little weight. I threw up continuously anytime I ate anything remotely healthly. The unhealthy foods slide down easy. I could never eat chicken. I ended up with esophogeal erosions. I love my sleeve. I am a slow looser but I have lost consistently with the sleeve. I had my revision on Mar 21 and have lost 45 lbs. Some would complain but I am not complaining. I feel healthier and happier. They don't want me at support group meetings either. I am a very vocal anti-band person. I love the analogy to the ex. smokers. It is so true. Cathy -
Help!!! I'm 5 days post op and downing 12 oz of liquid in 20 minutes
sunshine6855 replied to forever35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 months post op and could always drink a lot of liquids. However, I can only eat 1/2 cup or less of food at a time. Be glad you can drink. Some people have trouble. You don't ever want to get dehydrated. -

A GOOD protein Powder
sunshine6855 replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used this also the first few weeks post of. I would put 1 scoop (20 gm protein) in 4 oz water 3 times a day. It was easy to drink the 4 oz and I spread the protein out over the day. That is how the guy at GNC told me to do it. I still do a protein shake a day per directions of my doc. I found one I can mix in coffee and it is hot and taste good. I still use the one from GNC when I am in a hurry and just want to get the protein in. It is pretty good. -
R U EXPERIENCING ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY...SLEEVERS
sunshine6855 replied to ursieursie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my sleeve even though I am a slow loser. I knew I would eat less but I never comprehended how little 1/2 cup of food total really is. I get full fast. If I eat too fast I get too full and it is very uncomfortable for a couple of hours. Eat slow! I have really bad reflux. They tell me it goes away after about 6 months. I sure hope so. The meds work though. Very, very little pain with surgery and I had my gall bladder taken out also. Someone on this board said to never trust a fart. I cannot tell you enough how true that is ...TMI I can drink as much as I want as fast as I want. I was afraid I would be forever sipping but that was just a week or two. -
Officially the slowest loser, but a loser!
sunshine6855 replied to Lots Of Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a slow loser also. this was verified by my doctor. He told me to increase my calorie intake by 150-200 calories a day. It didn't seem to be working but the scale is beginning to move again. As long as it is going down, no matter how slow, I am happy. -
I got my approval letter in the mail yesterday for my revision. I will have the band to VSG and gall bladder surgery at the same time. I know several here have also had that surgery and would appreciate any advice you have. I am a little nervous about surgery but know that is normal. When I get really nervous I say to myself," you are going to have surgery no matter what because the gall bladder has to come out. this is just a little more." Seems to work a little. Is there a great deal more pain associated with gall bladder removal? Cathy

Is the sleeve the right thing after the Lapband?
sunshine6855 replied to jkend50035's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had the band put in july 2007 and had similar weight loss results as you. I also had serious problems with food sticking and my esophagus became eroded with some ulcers. I went to my doc to have the band removed and he suggested the sleeve. Surgery experience was not bad. No real pain. Healed well. I am 5 weeks out and eating pretty much what I want but much, much less. Chicken was always a sticking food so I avoided it. I have begun to enjoy eating it again. I highly recommend doing the revision. The same MD that put in my band did my sleeve. I have BCBS Federal and it was covered. -

How do you get in the protein?
sunshine6855 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT moved me to a mushie diet and I cannot get in even half the protein I need. My little tummy only holds about 2 oz or 1/4 cup of mush. I am supplementing with shakes to get in greater than 60 gms of protein. 3 meals and 2 snacks will only get me about 10 oz and since it is not mainly meat, that is not enough protein. Any suggestions? -
Im not sure if I can go another 5 weeks on Mushies
sunshine6855 replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So would I!!!! I have another 8 days of liquids before I get to the mushie stage. Why would anyone have to be on mushies for 5 weeks? -
glad to know you are doing so well. I find myself thinking of food a lot too. I am not hungry. It just makes me aware how often I turned to food even when I wasn't hungry. We can do this together with the help of all these great people on the board. Hang in there.

I came home today after having band removed, sleeve and gall bladder removed on Monday 3/21. Feeling pretty good except for soreness. No real pain except immediately post op. Later Monday I was not hurting much. However, I had nausea from Hell. They gave me every drug possible, multiple times and it did nothing for my nausea. Finally about 2pm yesterday, I woke from a nap and felt a little better and it was easy sailing the rest of the time. DIdn't drink much until last night and today but don't seem to have trouble drinking. I have drain in which is draining a lot so I guess its a good thing. I started with sinus problems over the weekend and coughing up crud has been my biggest thing. I don't think I would be that sore if I wasn't cough so much or so hard. Continuing with the incentive spirometer and walking. Overall, much easier that I thought it would be. I ask we all pray my journey will continue to progress positively and without problems. I can't wait to hear from everyone else who had surg on Monday. Cathy

I am home 2 days post op
sunshine6855 replied to sunshine6855's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
thanks for the prayers and support. It makes such a difference to know others have gone through the same thing and do get better. The acid reflux is bad too. I am on nexium 40 mg and it is barely doing the job. Barely is doing it though. I sure hope this get better. Getting in fluids is hard with the nausea and reflux but I am working hard. Walked 10 min. on the treadmill at a rather slow pace but I figure slow is better than none. Look forward to being a loser with the rest of you. -
I am so sorry Heather. What a disappointment. All docs are different . My only pre-op was liquids the day before surgery, Hope you get scheduled soon. Cathy

I am home after having my surgery on Monday too. I hope you are doing well.

congratulations!!!!! I just had my surgery on Monday and feeling pretty good. I am excited for you. Cathy

I just had surgery Monday and came home today. The worst was the nausea I had from anesthesia. The best, having it done, my children being there for me all the time, minimal discomfort, not gas pain. The acid reflux got pretty bad though. All in all, a very good experience. Doctor was great, nursing staff great, hospital great. I had my done by Michael Blaney in Augusta gA

Well, I must admit to getting a little nervous. Tomorrow, 3/21 is the day. I will have a band to sleeve revison and my gall bladder taken out. I pray I will have as good of an experience as most everyone else on the board has had. I can't wait until I am losing. Today I am on liquids. My last big meal was at Waffle House with my granddaughters. I wish it could have been better but I love their BLT sandwiches. I need to go to Walmart later today and get some gasx. Is there anything else I need to take? Prayers and support requested. Thanks to all up to now. Cathy

My band failed me 8 years after having it now opting for sleeve
sunshine6855 replied to aussiemalcolm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am having my band to sleeve revision tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. Cathy -
I am being sleeved tomorrow and I will have my gall bladder taken out at the same time. Glad to know it only adds 15 minutes to the surgery. I thought it would extend it alot and I didn't relish the thought of being asleep for a long time. Cathy
