Hi, I'm 17 days out from my surgery and I have only lost 1 lb. I weighed myself the day I arrived home and I had put on 5 lbs. Of course this was from the IV fluids. It took a few friendly reminders, from the other board members, that my body was healing and that I was retaining fluids. Knowing that still doesn't take away the frustration of not losing any weight, especially when others have lost during the same time frame. Today I had to let myself CRY. After I wiped my tears away, I logged onto the boards to get my daily dose of encouragement. Just know that there are others fighting the same battle you are and with time we too will be on our way to success. I wish you the very best. Keep your spirits up and know success is just around the corner.

Any November 2010 Sleevers
DMSRCHICK replied to hungryforinfo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
CONGRATULATIONS on your current success. I am starting my third week post-op. The mushy foods stage. I am NOT looking forward to pureed meat. Any suggestions on how to get through this? Unfortunately I have not been as successful with my weight loss. I retained a lot of fluids after my surgery. I am only now beginning to shed my excess fluids. I hope things pick up soon for me. pre-op weight 333.4 lbs day of surgery 316.6 lbs current weight 314.4 lbs -
Hello, I had sleeve plication surgery in Mexico on November 30, 2010 with Dr. Corvala. So far I'm healing well. I haven't loss any weight yet. I think I'm retaining fluids. I expect to start weight loss once I begin adding Protein to my diet this week. I would really like to know about experience in Mexico. If you have any questions, I'd be happy answer them for you. Ciao

Question for those still on liquids
DMSRCHICK replied to DMSRCHICK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW ... Seriously I'm going 2 times 3 if you count a little tinkle, which I'm not counting. I'm going to start coffee again [decaf]. Coffee always makes me go. I am curious. For those of you still on clear liquids are you frequenting the bathroom. I am asking because, I seem to be retaining a lot of fluids without having to go to the restroom. I just want to know is this normal when you are taking in so many liquids. I go. I'm just not going often. [i I am currently on clear liquids (had surgery Dec 1st) I ususally go to the bathroom around 4 to 5 times a day. Are you going more or less than that? -
Question for those still on liquids
DMSRCHICK replied to DMSRCHICK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I did this too. I'm just anxious I guess. Anyhoo ... What did you replace your broth with? Between juice, Water and juice, I look forward to my chicken broth MmmMmm. You are right about the salt. I try to water it down without making it bland. -
can anyone recommend a good protein bar
DMSRCHICK replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't sure how much Protein you want per bar. I really like the Atkins Endulge and Advantage bars. They are both low carb [3 or 4 net carbs] with 10 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar. I know there are bars with more protein, but they often have a lot of sugar too and they taste like protein bars. I think the Atkins bars taste great. -

7 days out and not losing

Hi 2Fluffy, I am right there with you on this one. It is so very hard not to get frustrated, especially when I successfully lost 17 lbs. during my 2 week pre-op liquid Protein diet. I started at 333.4 lbs. and was down to 316.6 lbs. the day of my surgery. At this very moment, I am at (gulp) 323.6 lbs. It was 320.4 lbs. this morning. Right now I am just hoping it's that time of the month. I guess we will all have to keep returning to this board to receive our daily dose of encouragement. The best of luck to you. -

Hey NinaX, Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's so hard not to compare results with others. I am glad there is a place for me to go that will remind me of these things. Thanks for your feedback. -

I wish that there weren't so many inconsistencies between doctors and their guidances. I was told to follow my post-op directives closely. I'm not supposed to add Protein until I start my second week when I begin creamy foods. I hope I will start to see a change soon ... I wish you the best. -

Natalie, Thanks for the response to my cry for help. I would love to know what your doctor thinks. Its seems like there are quite a few differing opinions between doctors. I haven't emailed my own doctor yet. I'm going to do later today. It's nice to meet someone who shares my anniversary date. Let's keep in touch. Ciao, DMSRCHICK -

Thanks everyone for the welcome and many words of encouragement. It was exactly what I needed today. I know these things take time and my body is going through it right now. I guess I needed to be reminded of that, so thanks again. I wanted to respond to some of your questions. Although I don't add salt to anything, I would agree that the broth I'm eating is probably too salty. I just might be retaining fluids and I don't have any Edema issues . I didn't even think about all of the IV fluids I received while in the hospital. Even though I write down what I consume, I'm going to keep closer tabs on things like ounces of fluids, Protein and sodium. Thanks again and I hope this won't be the last time we chat. DMSRCHICK ~ -

Hello everyone, I am hoping there is someone who can put my concerns at ease. I got my sleeve on November 30, 2010. It has been several days on Clear liquids. Not only have I not lost any weight, but I have gained 4 lbs. since the day of my surgery. How is this even possible? Am I doing something wrong? I just don't get it. If this is happening now, what's going to happen when I start creamy and mushy food? Also everyone seems to have some difficulty getting liquids in throughout the day. I do not have this problem. I don't gulp, but I can drink without having to sip.

I got my sleeve on November 30, 2010. Although I'm so very happy to have gotten this done, I feel like I'm spinning. I'm on Clear liquids only for right now and I haven't loss a single pound. One would think if all you are taking in are liquids and less than 700 calories; I would have least dropped a pound or two by now. I'm venting at the moment, because I am hungry. I know things will get better. The worst of my problems is not the food, or lack there of, it is that I am allergic to the adhesive on my bandages. It is itchy and blistering wherever the adhesive was placed. Apparently I am only sensitive on the area of my stomach, of all places and not my knee, finger or arm.
