Still praying for you
-
I had many complications and hospital stays...... I know what you mean. My surgery was in Nov. I had a leak among other things and I am still using my feeding tube! I am getting better but was not expecting any complications. It will get better with time. I just got cleared to have 2 Popsicles a day and 1 bottled water by mouth everything else thru the tube. I hook up to an iv and it takes 11 hours for 5 cans of nutrition (1200 calories) to run during the evening and night time.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

My surgeon was Dr. Pleatman. I am being taken care of by other Doctors down at Harper Hospital now.

I have had complications from my vsg with the biggest one being a leak. Has anyone else had a leak and their doctor had them npo for 3 months? All water, pills etc go thru the feeding tube and I hook my iv up and feed all night. Surgery is not an option right now just curious if anyone else had this situation. My 2 nd abscess had cleared just waiting for my leak to heal. It is so hard and depressing not being able to eat and drink by mouth but I thank God I am still alive.

Nene I feel the same I had 2 abscesses and pneumonia i am home since 2/9 and I am not allowed to eat or drink by mouth I have a leak. My feedings go through my feeding tube along with water.....it is depressing but I am here if you need to talk! I am in Michigan if you want my number let me know. Everyone on this board is very supportive. Do you have a small leak?

My doctors are having my leak heal on it's own as well. I am npo for at least 3 months......so hard. I had 2 abscesses as well the 2nd one by my spleen too. I had a jp drain and feeding tube that was put in but they both fell out due to an ice pack falling on them! I had so much fluid from the second abscess I have a pigtail drain in ....this big bag it is ugly I miss my jp drain but my abscess has cleared and this drain should be coming out 3/25. Now just waiting for the leak to heal so I can eat and drink by mouth. I was very sick and made it through now it is a waiting game for my leak! I struggle with the npo but try to stay positive! My family has been through hell and back with me so I am trying to keep a smile on my face instead of crying! 2 days in a row now no tears! A record

Thank you Tiffykins! I really appreciate the support! I have lots of questions for my new dr who took over my case. I not sure where my leak is located or how large it is. They may have told me but I can't remember the pain meds made things blurry in the hospital

My pigtail drain should be removed in a few weeks. My abscess is cleared and physically I feel good mentally I have some challenges with being npo and knowing I still have a leak. The good news I have lost almost 60 pounds with about 25 more to go!

Mommietawnie did your Dr repair your leak?

2 weeks after surgery I had a life threatening abscess my lung collapsed as well. Went home with a feeding tube and jp drain. One month later back in the hospital with pneumonia for another 10 days , tpn with a picc line, still could not find the leak. Went home for 4 days back to the hospital another 10 days with another abscess by spleen this time I had a ct scan with drinking something and they found the leak superbowl Sunday . I have been in and out of the hospital since November 23 which was my surgery date! I have had a swallow test, numerous ct scans and x rays. Harper hospital saved my life and I am grateful now I am npo for the leak to heal and it is so hard. No surgery is planned to repair the leak at this point. I had nothing to eat by mouth since 1/18 and nothing to drink since 2/9.

Has anyone else had complications from the vsg surgery that end up with leak and was sent home NPO and everything through a feeding tube? If so, how long did your leak take to heal..... It is very hard and depressing not being able to each and drink by mouth. I had several complictions from the leak, abscesses, drainage tubes, pnumonia, collapsed lung and other....finally out of the hospital and trying to deal with Reality about being NPO for at 3 months since hospital discharge and it is so hard......
