How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
Patrick Curl replied to Patrick Curl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, not judging those of you who went 'hog wild' - just think that the more healthy you are the day of surgery the less likelihood of complications, and why chance it? Plus I got a lot ot lose so starting early will just get me to my finish line faster. I read that diet soda is worse than regular soda - in causing obesity: Reason : aspertame makes your body 'think' it just got sugar so it is expecting it and releases certain hormones, when it doesn't 'get the sugar' it says hey, "where's my sugar! damnit!" -- then you pig out and overeat. Pretty sure splenda doesn't have the same effect, but not many soda's sweetened with splenda. The acids/carbonation though do weaken the stomach and is just not great for ya, and who knows it could be a minor cause of complications in surgery. . I'm no doctor, but it just seems better to go under the knife in the best condition possible in the time alotted. -
I'm down 5 pounds this week, was a pretty good week, only had 2 days above 1000 calories, 1700 & 2100 respectively. Did lot of walking, my body pains are a lot less when working out now. Recap: Starting on memorial day: 668. Current: 652 Goal for surgery july 2: 600

Hey julz welcome to the forum, I'm new here too but totally addicted. I'm currently 652, highest @ 698, I lost about 30 pounds in past year, but at that rate it would be a decade till I reach goal, so going another route. I started my surgery journey at 667 and have lost 15 pounds since memorial day on a preop diet, my goal is to lose 40 by sleeve-day, july 2nd. I'm loving all the support here, you are in the right place. I'm the kinda guy that has to know everything about something, and I feel extremely prepared after only two weeks on the forum.

One small suggestion use unjury unflavored, so it's not sweet to begin with. -
Yeah it's getting super close. scale was stuck at 657 for 4 days the yesterday dropped to 652. 15 total lost on preop since day after memorial day.

And if the other ER confirms, get a lawyer, and sue the first for negligence. -
Ok - when I met with the nutritionist she said that I will only be able to take a tiny bite or two and I'm trying to do that.. but a lot of times my subconscious takes over and is like hey I know how to eat, stop wasting mental energy on it.. I know post-surgery, I will need to eat VERY slowly, much smaller bites, and while my stomach is gonna be smaller, my mouth will be as big as ever lol - I am interested in what others went through in re-learning how to eat. I mean we learn how to eat as a baby, so it's practically instinct re-learning it seems like it might be difficult. I also am really bad at sipping throughout the day I usually chug 4 Water bottles in 3 minutes at 4 different times of day to get my daily water intake... I'm just thinking this is gonna be hard for me to change, and would like some insight from those who've been there, done that.

Lessons Learned At The Mexican Restaurant
Patrick Curl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So yesterday I did awesome - I had 4 SF pudding cups, 2 Protein packs(unjury), and Mcdonalds salad - 900 calories about. I also did a lot of walking. Today I really wanted to eat out, but I didn't want to hurt my diet too much. We decided to go to our favorite mexican where normally we eat 2 baskets of chips and salsa, a Chimichanga, rice, Beans, and maybe an appetizer to share. Well today we pushed the complimentary chips aside, and ordered 1 Shrimp, chicken, and Steak fajitas to share between us. We set the tortillas aside and halfed it and only ate the filling. It was absolutely delicious - AND I really practiced my post-op mental stuff. I slowed down and paused between each bite, I chewed till it was like applesauce, I set my fork down between every bite. (I still drank w/ my dinner, I'll work on that next) So I had 1026 calories today 26 over my goal, and learned an important lesson : I can eat at a good restaurant and do it healthily AND you save a lot of money when you share one plate with your spouse hehe.. We paid $12.95 including my Diet Pepsi not bad for the best Mexican restaurant in Ohio. I couldn't believe how satisfied I was - I felt pretty full too - which I think also has to do with my diet recently - all the protein and low carbing. The biggest thing I learned is that I can definitely do this. I have taken the responsibility and I am in control, not my mind, or the ghrellin in my tummy. -
I think you are on the border-line if your BMI is 38.9. Do you any co-morbidalities? I'm 650 pounds and I didn't qualify either - because of exclusions in my policy - we have the Ohio High Risk Pool insurance. There are still many options out there, - you can finance it, try one of the Mexican Doctors, or sit and wait till your health does make you qualify. Stay with it - I never thought I would be able to afford it, I thought I was just going to die in my bed at 800 pounds or something.. I finally got my miracle, you will too.

I would probably go the ER just to be sure, you don't want to risk it -it could cost you your life and you've already come so far. If you point your toes toward your head and it hurts really bad it is most likely a clot, but that isn't 100% --so go to the ER to be safe. Let me know how it goes. -
Ok so I was skeptical that it would mix well but I took a packet of unjury protein powder unflavored, and mixed with two sugar free pudding cups I emptied them into a bowl and whisked it was probablt the first time I had protein powder that actually didn't taste like protein powder. I recommend making it kinda runny consistency, tastes delicious and less than 20 net carbs, but great for us on pre op diet not yet used to it, or trying to get by without chocolate.

Tried My First Protein Shake Today
Patrick Curl replied to DesertRat's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
not too keen on Bariatric Advantage.. unjury is ok.. Optimum Nutrition is the best imho. the best though - take sugar free pudding add skim milk and Protein powder and it's pretty delicious. -
Okay, I'm not sure if this is off-topic or not, or which forum to post this to. I have a great domain: DietGrub.com - and I can/do program (just not super great yet - I'm going to college and have a busy life - so if I could find a couple people to help with the project it would be cool... I have some ideas, so far the best one is kind of a user submitted review site for recipes, diets, Meal Replacements, supplements, surgeries, etc. The homepage would then list in columns the top 10 of each major category. Let me know if you'd be interested. Also if anyone has any other cool ideas for a web app I could do maybe something like Fitnesspal, Earnedit, or Fitocracy that would jive with the DietGrub domain, let me know. Thanks!
