July 2Nd Is My Day! 29 More Days But Who's Counting
Patrick Curl replied to BeatrizS1974<3 sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow thats kinda cool your pcp is assisting. My surgeon is new at the practice but did the surgeries in ky, but I've been extremely impressed by his bedside manner, very attentive and genuinely interested in me as an individual, but I found his partner who is the leading bariatric surgeon in the region is assisting, so I'm excited to have two very experienced surgeons with their mitts in my guts lol. The lady at the desk kinda made it sound unusual that he assists but it could be because of my size and bmi.. I can't believe it's only like 10 days away.getting really anxious. -

Yup, that's what she said. lol -
My doctor seemed pleasantly surprised I lost 20 pounds since he last saw me especially since he doesn't do a pre op. Today was my last preop meeting with doctor. Have two more doctor appoints before surgery : cardiologist and pulmonologist. Should be all set to go by end of day on monday other than my egd on thursday.

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?

Less migraines could also be due to less sleep apnea and better oxygenation, but can definitely see how fat in the head could cause pressure on brain.luckily I don't have migraines and don't get many headaches. I mostly took nsaids nightly for back pain and ankle swelling. Also sometimes for tooth aches and ear aches. Edit: used to always have headaches turned out to be my sleep apnea. Haven't slept without my cpap in 4 years since I got it. -
Cardio Vs Weight Training For Weight Loss, Wyo?
Patrick Curl replied to emily_0192010's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As I understand it Cardio burns calories in real-time, ie you only burn while you're doing it. So you run for x minutes you burn 1000 calories. Weights will make it so that the same amount of cardio in the previous scenario now might burn 1100 calories. Plus just breathing and moving will burn maybe 5500 calories a day, instead of 5000 which would be like an extra pound loss per week... So it basically will help to increase the metabolism, while the cardio will help increase immediate calorie burn. Plus it doesn't hurt to build up your heart muscle. -
Wow, that sounds awesome! I hope mine goes as smoothly, getting more nervous as time ticks by, less than two weeks to go now!

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
Patrick Curl replied to got2bthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Switching to Tylenol which works less than ibuprofin imo, is worth it. I'd rather be 200 pounds w/ headaches from time to time, then in constant pain and soreness from being 650 ... not gonna deter me from choosing a healthier lifestyle. -

NSAIDS = non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs i think.. well anyhow it includes: Aspirin, Ibuprofin, Aleve, --post op the only pain med you can take safely i believe is tylenol. NSAIDS cause stomach issues and ulcers are bad for your tummy with the sleeve or rny. One other bonus of sleeve over rny ...something I have noticed looking at TONS of before/after pictures of RNY patients vs Sleeve patients is -- overall healthful looking -- lots of RNY's kinda look a little sickly and have a pale demeanor after a year or two... where there's some really attractive and healthy looking post-oppers on this forum. Has anyone else noticed that - or am I just imagining it? lol -
Thanks to Google - I've deduced the doctor, so I can warn others to avoid him at all costs, plus we can be sure to post a thread here on Vertical Sleeve Talk. The doctor is: Dr. Russell Gornichec website: http://integrisok.com/weightloss

Not really but this forum has a wealth of info, and kettering hospital has a support program for bariatric patients maybe you could go to that even though you didn't have surgery there.

Biggest Loser Weigh In
Patrick Curl replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I forgot to checkin last night had a sleep study. But nothing to report averaged under 1k calories per day and my bmr is 5000 and somehow I did not lose a pound well I think I'm retaining some Water it keeps fluctuating from 650-652. Right now its 652. Also began weight training hoping some of my lack in scale movement is because of muscle gain. Sent from my Kindle Fire using VST -
Here's My Story. Can I Get The Sleeve?
Patrick Curl replied to Sara Kelly Keenan LC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One thing though that people didn't bring up is I was in a presurgery seminar the other day and the lady was discussing the surgery with me another sleever and a banded. She told us we wouldn't be hungry but the banded person would be but just wouldn't be able to eat when hungry. I think that the lack of hunger may help you to succeed where the band failed. But that's just a thought from a pre opper I'm still new on this journey. Sent from my Kindle Fire using VST -

I think the stretching may have to do with the size and shape of the two different pouches. I'm not too sure why bypass patients stretch more. Also one thing that is important to think on is to look more holistically at your life. You are more than your waistline. You could lose 100 pounds and still be miserable. Especially when you're always feeling sick from malabsorption, or dumping or just the lifestyle of rny is harder to maintain. You need to see a doctor every six months for the rest of your life to have a Vitamin and mineral check to make sure your levels are in check. You will probably also be spending $150+ per month just on Vitamins for the rest of your life. Also I love food and I selfishly am not willing to say goodbye forever to my faves. When I reach goal I can have those things again but I will never be able to eat the same quantity that I would before surgery. So when you think about the surgery think about how you want to live once you reach goal, is it worth trading some of the pros of the sleeve for a couple months faster weight loss? In the first year you will probably lose 100 pounds and you still might have more to lose but I guarantee you will feel healthier and happier than ever before even though you are not yet at goal. I would be happy to reach 400 right now. 300 would be awesome so i can go to amusement parks again but I didn't put all the weight on in a year I can weight 2 years to get to goal, but you better believe I'm going to work the hardest ive ever worked in my life to get this weight off. I wish you great luck in making your choice whichever you choose is better than doing nothing and I know you will make it to the losers bench. Sent from my Kindle Fire using VST -

Kimbernada hit the nail on the head with her pros and cons. I also didn't notice much negativity other than some strong opinions about why the sleeve is safer and such than bypass, but that is to be expected when 90% of the people on this forum have had or have chosen to have the sleeve done, or are preparing for surgery. We've all gone through the personal thoughts about which surgery to choose and its kinda funny how most of our reasons kinda overlap. I feel like sleevers are the people who research every little thing and ive literally spent three years lurking on band forums obesity help and this forum and for me this surgery and this support network are what I feel is going to help me be successful. Let me know the doctors' name I have certain pull on twitter/facebook etc. I've talked to corporate at a number of companies. I also do online reputation management, and I have used my blog to dish out negative pr. If I wanted I could probably get him fired in a heart beat. Let me know... For an example of my work google allstate sucks lol I was ranked #1 for that term. Needless to say corporate called me within a day of writing my post. If nobody will stand up for your rights I will. Just pm me if interested.

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
Patrick Curl replied to got2bthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only part that could be better about rny for diabetics is with sugar addiction, because of dumping syndrome. However most people on here who've had surgery say they don't crave sweets like they used to thus it cancels out dumping. Plus someone who is diabetic may have need of a lot of medications especially if the rny doesn't cure the symptoms, and she will need larger doses because of the malnutrition. Plus on rny she is going to be a lot hungrier than us sleevers cause thankfully we dont produce ghrellin. Bottom line: both surgeries are tools, you can have surgery and not lose anything if you drink soda and milkshakes. Both surgeries also have good track records for diabetes. My wifes' doctor who worked at the white house under senior bush, he was the presidents physician and specializes in diabetes when she mentioned me having gastric sleeve he said she should think about having it too because if her diabetes. Thats just a couple things to think about.
