My First Week On Self-Imposed Liquid Protein Diet. (Start: 667, Current: 557)
Patrick Curl replied to Patrick Curl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Basically you just put your hands against the stairs, about shoulder width apart - feet on the floor, and do pushups... I don't know if my feet should be tippy toe or flat though when I do it.. I just do what feels like right.. it's kinda like a wall pushup only a little lower so there's more gravity/resistance against you. -

It's a caution thing because of my size - he was going to do a Filter, but decided against it and to do the lovenox instead. -

Don't give up - why not pretend today is your surgery and try eating the post-op kinda diet till you are ready - imagine if you could lose 20 or 30 pounds before you even get to the operating table! -
16 Mos Out...disappointed
Patrick Curl replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree whole heartedly with Catracks, I'm much younger in my journey - still pre-op but I'm 650+ pounds and only eating 800 calories, so if you're 1/4th my size, and can't do it -its because of the choices you're making -- ie carbs.. carbs are poison, and I think you may be rationalizing things - I know I do that, and my wife does that she doesn't yet realize how bad carbs are for the body ESPECIALLY sugar/flour/processed stuff. I feel healthier already - go back to your pre/post-op diet for a month, two months, or 3 if it takes that -- your stomach will shrink, and you will be more motivated to keep going. Also be sure to get to the gym and do cardio AND strength 3x a week. You could eat 400 cals a day but without muscle you wouldn't lose an ounce - that's just a fact you CANNOT lose weight on dieting alone - at least not really substantial amounts.. I mean there could be some exceptions here..again I'm not an expert but I am an obsessive maniac about this stuff i have read every diet/fitness guide and been to a number of communities.. I've even lost 150 pounds on my own before.. uh.. I gained it back.. but I lost it so I know HOW to do it... I'm doing the sleeve as a way to not only do it again - but ensure it stays done lol. I really wish you the best of success I know you can do it- throw away all junk food in your house if others in your house don't like it, well tough they can learn to like veggies, and Protein - or go eat without you somewhere else and get fat on their own. You're better than that... *Struggles climbing down off the high horse...another reason I can't wait for surgery lol* -
Yeah I saw that too.. I thought it was definitely something interesting.. Kinda threw me for a loop especially when she did the hand stand I don't know how she had the strength in her shape to do all that... If she keeps it up though - her career I'm sure she'll lose a lot pole dancing is a good workout I hear.
-
Well if you see re-shaping happens then you get the stalls probably because you're doing everything right - ie - - say you lose 5 pounds of fat but and maybe 3 or 4 inches, but you also gained 8 pounds of muscles .. see you got healthier but gained 3 pounds.. I wouldn't worry - the other NSVs are more important than the scale. Keep it up, you're an inspiration I can't wait to be where you are right now!
-
Yeah.. I think I'm throwing the scale away lol.. I need a lot more NSVs so I can start really seeing the change..like I personally notice some small things that seem different about my body like 'rolls' in the wrong place or moved or smaller lmao.. but would be nice if the scale could just confirm, give me a thumbs up or something that I'm doing good...is that too much to ask for? lol
-
Yeah, I guess just walking is good now.. but would be nice to have something I can do while I watch TV lol ... something to keep my mind distracted.

I'm in even though I'm pre-op.. My surgery is July 2nd.. I currently weigh 657 - goal is 600 by surgery and I know it's a lot but I'm on all Protein liquid diet and not straying one bit from here on out.. I want the gold at the end of that rainbow damnit! Starting weight: 670 Current weight: 657 Surgery weight: TBD

Anyone know of a good eliptical with a 700 capacity... I'm just too busy to get to the gym (FT work, FT STudent). I'm currently 650 pounds and don't want to break a $600+ machine.
-
When you work out is it just cardio, or do you do strength training as well? weights will help you build muscle which will make you lose fat faster but muscle also weighs more - my advice is when you're in a stall - stop weighing for a week or so and instead take measurements you may still be losing inches just not 'weight'.. and weight can also be water being held, etc... Lots of women, my wife included hate doing weights, and are afraid they're gonna become a bodybuilder and have the 'ugly' muscles -but that doesn't happen unless you are really trying to become a bodybuilder lol.

Another Newbie Waiting
Patrick Curl replied to danielbyhalf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If it helps - I'm on day 7 of a self-imposed pre-op diet - mostly liquids ..(took the weekend off though... but didn't indulge too much-just a little) - I'm also 650 pounds so I know where you're coming from and I have sleep apnea.. I also am pre-op. I'm pretty certain that the sleep apnea will improve with this surgery, and a lot of your other health issues as well. If I can do the Protein drinks anyone can, it's simply mind over taste. Just make up a list of your biggest reasons for losing weight - mine are in my signature so I can see them everytime I post something and it helps me stay motivated. You need a strong reason you really need to envision yourself in those circumstances... I see myself with my wife, having our first baby, then eventually I see our family at Disney world--and woah I'm riding all the rides! (Right now not possible - weight = infertility; and no way I can fit in a roller coaster - but in my mind I can see it..and it feels good..) Create some good images of the things you want in life- then nothing will stop you! -

wtg.. Ya know... I don't know if I'll ever be in one-derland -being a guy and 650 right now - two-ferville looks good to me! -
Wow congrats! I could barely walk down the alley and around the block from my garage to the front of my house last week. I'm hoping to make it all the way back to my garage this week - I've been working on it.. and I feel a bit better.

...like Beating A Dead Horse... I Know
Patrick Curl replied to SicChl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah what she said, - I read that people who keep a strict diary of all cals/carbs/proteins lost more weight in x amount of weeks than another group who didn't. The only main thing each group did was track or not track. Just knowing every single statistic about your consumption can really help you pinpoint your trouble areas. Also - what everyone else said... eat more Protein less carbs.. cause you'll stop having those cravings, and if that fails -- go see your NUT or a Therapist to work out the 'mental' aspect of what is triggering the cravings. -

Is "banding" The Sleeve A Common Practice?

I'm definitely interested in more info on this, are there any links to a study or something? Does it have an official name we can google? -
Mexican food is my kryptonite.. there's this hole in the wall mexican place in downtown Dayton of all places that is better than any Mexican I ever had in Phoenix and I tried a lot. They make their tortilla's fresh -including the chips. The chimichanga is freaking huge...and it's 7.50 for a chimichanga, rice, and the best refried beans I've ever had and a good amount of their fresh made pico. MMM....DAMN this thread! good thing Taqueria Mixteca is closed or I'd so be there right now! lol...

Day 3 Of 32 Day Protein Shake Fast - Pre-Op
Patrick Curl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so today is day 3, and the diarrhea is finally gone. I just entered yesterday's meals into MyFitnessPal and it said - if everyday were like today you'd weigh: 617 pounds in 5 weeks! (starting: 660) Well if I add in some extra workouts and really push it, I think I can make it to 600 by my surgery - which would be totally cool! I'm so excited so far, I really need to get started exercising - that's my most dreaded thing though lol. Day two was a little rough, but today I do feel better, and more focused and less weak.
