I feel horrible....Is really thinking was it worth it???
Disney replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me either, I cannot tolerate water AT ALL! One of my Dr's had this surgery and said he couldn't stand to drink water till he was 12 months out. They say your tastes change and then go back to normal eventually. Although, I never have been a big water drinker, so that might be part of my problem. I have been living off of gatorade and broth. -
Sick before surgery...
Disney replied to Infernored's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day I flew out to San Diego then on to Mexicali, when my DH and daughter were seeing me off, my daughter had a very wet cough, stuffy nose, etc. I just knew I would get sick and not have my surgery, but for some reason, it held off till I got home. So, I have it now, and it is almost gone. So mine really only lasted a week. Hopefully you will be ok, too! Good Luck!!! -

liquid diet help.....
Disney replied to italianmama41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree about the post-op schedules. I am on day 10 and can't start FULL liquids till tomorrow!!! Hard to believe. My Dr. is just very cautious and I respect that. Whatever works, though. I have a friend who had surgery a week before me and by the time I had surgery, she had already had eggs and fish even! I am going to stick to my surgeons plan for me, but most seem to do well with starting earlier. I think there is someone from overseas that started foods immediately post op. I think it's great if that's what works for them. (even jealous) but I couldn't even get gatorade to go down the first few days!! Wow! -
Tara had bad lipo, she didn't get a tummy tuck. Also I think she had a bad boob job and her dress "accidentally" fell down at an event. I say go for whatever makes you happy. You have the right to look exactly how you want to look after all that hard work.

Congratulations! Glad to see you got approved and good for you for starting your pre-op diet early. It can only help you in the long run.

NEW PCP wants to try Adipex
Disney replied to kpbrighton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Stacy, and in addition to all the symptoms she mentioned, Adipex can also raise your blood pressure. Not sure if High BP is a problem for you, but when I took Adipex years ago, my BP was normal and it raised it while I was taking it. So that might be a consideration you want to look at. I know she said only a month, but why risk it? You could lose just as much by going low carb for a month, if not more. -
What a kind thing for someone to do. A nice reminder.

Thanks for posting this. I like the idea of the brush that takes away less hair while brushing. I am dreading the hair loss that comes around the 3-5 month mark. I know it's coming, but will still hate it when it does. Nothing I can do about it though. My hair is down to the middle of my back right now. I think in a couple months, I will cut it shoulder length and layer it a bit so I can "hide" the hair loss better when it does come.

OOPS! I forgot I was sleeved!
Disney replied to JaspersGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rootman, I believe you are thinking of Now & Laters. They were really tart to me, but oh so good. Laffy Taffy is mostly just sweet. -
Hope you're doing just great! Here's to an easy recovery. Just get your rest

I know stalls are normal....but....

You made me laugh out loud on that one. I will remember that when I lose after a stall!! -
Am I lucky told I didn't need a PRE-OPT diets
Disney replied to Guitrman's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
If you do it, even for a week, it will make the liver less fatty and big, and make surgery easier for you and the surgeon. Less risk for a nick on the liver. Just a thought. And yeah, it will get you ready for the brutal POST-op diet. I did a 7 day low carb diet pre-op and still wasn't prepared for this. Geez. -
I posted a question like this last night in the nutrition section but only got two answers so I'm glad you re-posted it. It does make sense about the sugar irritating the tummy, but I'm like Tiff and need to get my fluids in for fear of dehyration and am drinking gatorade. Right now it's my sole source of fluids besides the broth. I eat popsicles too, but they are only like 1 oz each and it would take several boxes to get my 64 oz in! My question was, how can you get your 600 calories a day in (in the early stages) with SF everything? Even with my Protein powder, and full sugar products, I can't even get 400 calories in.
-
I have been trying to make sure I am getting enough fluids in and was worried because I do not tolerate sugar free foods like stevia, aspartame, or any other very well, and did not want to be getting too many calories. So I was tracking my calories today and I was told to get in at least 600 and my calories added up to only 320. And that's with full sugar popsicles, gatorade, etc.I was wondering how in the world you could get in 600 calories during the liquid stage (or really any stage) with only sugar free Protein Drinks, crystal light, SF popsicles, etc.?! I know SF doesn't mean calorie free, but there are so few calories there. I can see it would be more important to stick to SF in the later stages when you are eating lots of different foods (and I will have to force myself to like it), but in this liquid/soft food stage, it seems like there is no way to get that amount of calories with SF everything.

Hey, that's great! It's always better when family is on board. Nobody needs the stress of unsupportive family/friends.

Wow. You really do look great. You almost disappear when you turn sideways Congrats on your weight loss!

help!!! would like your input...
Disney replied to Goofyspice's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would wait, too! I had family with me and still do and it is priceless. I know what you mean about wanting it yesterday, but it will fly by I promise. Also, look at the extra days as 10 more days to lose some weight before surgery that will be gone forever!! Just that much less to lose after surgery Good luck in whatever you decide. -
That's good that your insurance covers it! Although honestly, I have felt more scared walking down the streets in New York than I ever felt in Mexicali. There are lots of misconceptions, but I cannot speak about the other areas of Mexico, because I didn't have my surgery in those areas. Wow. $29,500. That is just crazy!

I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and the price was $8750, but there are others in Mexico that are much cheaper.

Practical Immediate After Surgery Activity Question
Disney replied to Gregorio Punderschmidt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder why flying should be a problem after surgery? I flew across the country after my surgery in Mexicali and had no problems whatsoever. Just like riding in a car, only not as bumpy and I could get up and walk around. I also wonder why traveling would cause that person to have ulcers? Just curious about that. -
6 days out and terrible head cold...
Disney posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 6 days out from surgery and have come down with a terrible head cold. I am using the nose spray that opens me up enough to breathe, but it doesn't help a lot for the sinus pain, sore throat, coughing, etc. I am a big baby and don't want to even try the nasal flush things, so can anyone give me an idea of a medication that would be safe to take this early after surgery? I want so badly to take some nyquil, because it helps with the pain, coughing and stuffiness (at least the dayquil does). But I have heard yes and no about nyquil/dayquil. I feel fine from surgery, it's this dang cold that's got me feeling bad. Any ideas? -
6 days out and terrible head cold...
Disney replied to Disney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an update in case someone has the same question in the future. Heard back from the Dr. and he says Mucinex is ok to take, but I thought Mucinex was more for chest congestion. I guess it will work on any kind of congestion. -
Agreed. You can also lose that fast on Atkins. I lost 45 pounds in 2 months on Atkins so I know she could lose 50 in 3 months. It comes off a lot faster when you are as large as she is (was), too. And I was only 195 when I did it. I don't get the secrecy about it either. Star Jones denied having bypass forEVER, and finally broke down and admitted it like a year later. I just don't get it.
