How soon were you allowed to go home after surgery?
Disney replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves requires a 3 day stay. I didn't mind at all. I have a 3 year old and I don't think I could have handled her pouncing on my tummy a couple days after surgery. I was still guarded after 5 or 6 days but those first few, I was really sore. -
Addicted to peanut butter... How bad is this?
Disney replied to sassygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That looks good! I am going to order some. Nice to see they pride themselves on having no artificial sweeteners. Not everyone likes that taste and you can hardly find a product like this that you can add to smoothies that doesn't have it. -
I have wondered about eating too few calories causing a stall. I just don't think I get enough in and it is slowing me down.

Before and After pic 7 months out
Disney replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
ONE HOT MAMA!! You look so great! Just like a movie star. You have done well, and I wish you continued success. -
I just sold my Vibram barefoot shoes on ebay. I never could get used to the feeling of having something in between all my toes. Just annoyed me, really. Plenty of people love them though.
-
Right, she said she could do it IF she starved herself to death, so she thinks stretching it out to 6 months would be healthier.
-
While I don't think anyone should 'starve themselves to death' and 100 pounds in 4 months is way outta my reach, what is wrong with doing this to be healthy AND skinny? I think we all want to look better along with feeling better. There's no reason you can't achieve both at the same time.

Could you tell us what mushy/soft Proteins you ate? I am in the same boat with the Protein Shakes. Can NOT tolerate them at all. I think my weight loss is stalling because I am not getting in nearly enough protein. What do they do if you are having esophageal spasms? Thanks Tiff!

I 2nd the 'Everything' bagels comment! Those are THE best. That is actually one of the last things I ate before my pre-op diet because I knew it would be a looooong time before I had another one! Yummy.

Awww, that's such a great update. Glad to hear it! You're tummy's thanking you for getting that band off of it I hope things keep going well for you! -
Haha! I don't think Ernesto, the driver of the Almater van, really takes any digs at us Fat Americans as he was once very overweight and had the sleeve, too. Did he not show you his 'before' picture? Wow, that is wild about missing the shuttle. Glad they came back and got you Hope today is better for you!

After-care when you've had surgery in Mexico?
Disney replied to Roudoudou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am very early out, but will try to answer your questions. I have a PCP that will handle all bloodwork and GI's, etc. A local bariatric surgeon has agreed to handle anything that comes up complication wise. Thankfully, Dr. Aceves is known for being a complication free Dr!!! I hope nothing goes wrong, but if it does, I have a backup plan. I have already talked to the nutritionist there. They are very helpful and will even answer some questions over the phone to save me a trip. I guess it just depends on how your local Dr.'s feel about it. BTW, Dr. Aceves answers any and all questions via email or phone, also. As for the malpractice stuff, that has been discussed here recently ad nauseam Really, the Drs in the states make you follow so many strict guidelines and jump through so many hoops that they are covering their butts no matter what, and they are paying that HIGH dollar malpractice insurance so they have no intention of being sued. (And who can blame them, people are so sue happy) As for the Mexican Drs, you cannot sue them. At least I don't think you can. So the question is, what's the difference? You probably won't win a malpractice lawsuit here in the states (unless the Dr. falls asleep during surgery and slices the wrong organ open), and you can't sue the Mexican Drs. So, no need to really worry about it. Good luck to you. You are gonna love Dr. Aceves and his staff. -
wife is not supportive at all (long)
Disney replied to doggz109's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remind her that you might also die if things stay the way they are. And if she is morbidly obese, she could also die. Now, that would be tragic for your daughter. They don't call it morbidly obese for nothing. Sorry you are having to deal with this when all you want is to make a better life for yourself and BE THERE for your family. So sad. I wish you luck with this. -
Hey Crosswind, give us an update when you're up to it, okay? I guess you figured out all of us ACEVES lovers were not an internet scam by now! You are one of us now!

Im not sure if I can go another 5 weeks on Mushies
Disney replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahahaaa! Hilarious. I hear ya! I have 2 more days to go till I hit the mushies. Seems like years since my surgery. This liquid/full liquid diet is for the birds. -
^^^Well for me, Mexico was not a quarter the price. I guess it's all where you go. Dr. Aceves' fee was $8750. For me, that was about half the price of my local surgeons office. Oh, and Dr. Aceves had done about 1000 more sleeves than my local surgeon So it's all good! I used part of my student loan and my tax refund. Good luck to you!

Does everyone have a drain after surgery?
Disney replied to fatBgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drain and it was taken out 2 days after my surgery. The Dr. just pulled it right out and I felt nothing. Some people have some pain, but I did not. -
Tiffy, you crack me up! Thank God we have you to put things into perspective. It helps me so much to read that I'm not the only one with these crazy side effects happening now and in the future!
-
On the front page of the site, there is a section entitled: Your Story. That's where everyone posts their experience.
-
Well, it's up to the Dr really, but you can only benefit from starting it immediately. Just that much more you won't have to lose later! And will make recovery easier/faster. Good luck!

eleven day post op with weight gain
Disney replied to ampsgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The same thing happened to me. I think it is all the sodium in the Soups we are eating. Makes you retain Water like crazy. Also, I have read on here that not getting plenty of fluids can slow the weight loss also. What I read said to get even more than the 64 oz referenced here so much. That's just about impossible for me right now, but when I can, I plan to drink a lot more. -
