  1. I tried the other chewable vitamins, because I need the iron, but could not stomach the taste AT ALL. I have been taking the Flintstone's gummies(2 of them) just to get something in. I know I will have to eventually take the other ones with iron, but I will wait till I can swallow a vitamin. Right now, I just do what I can.

    So Scared....

Good luck tomorrow! Hope everything is ok. Please let us know.
  3. Amen! I'm from the deep South and that's how we eat/ate every Sunday and ANY and all 'special' occasions. It's just a wonder we don't all have diabetes and/or heart disease, among other ailments. Thank God for the sleeve. Good job resisting! And sorry about your family's losses.
  4. You absolutely need more calories when you are working out as opposed to someone who doesn't lift a finger to do anything. So I guess that hunger is just your body's way of letting you know to put more IN!!

    No Protein Yet Today

Sadly, even if you get your protein in, chances are you will lose your hair. The hair loss comes from drastic/fast weight loss and low calories, hormonal shifts, and sometimes anesthesia. There are lots of threads here on that very subject. Good thing, though, it will grow back.
  8. I hope you get good news today. Please let us know!!

    No Protein Yet Today

I'm right there with ya in Toast Town. I despise any and all Protein. I could easily be a vegetarian and for no other reason than I just prefer the delish carby side dishes. I am having a heck of a time getting my protein in. I cannot tolerate the Protein shakes AT ALL. And I, too, bought 3 tubs of the Injury powder. Everyone raved about the 'chicken soup' flavored one and I can't gag that crap down if someone had a gun to my head. I also bought the unflavored, which is not quite as bad but still intolerable for me. I had to wait till I could eat some real protein to get any in. I *think* I remember Tiff saying she could not get protein in till much later, too and well, we all see she turned out just fine. I've read many others here that couldn't get it in early on, and all their doctors said concentrate on liquids FIRST. Protein will become easier in time. No one is gonna waste away if they don't get all the protein in the first few weeks or month. Just do what you can, and like Tiff said, that protein is not gonna do you a BIT of good if you just upchuck it after you drink it. In fact, that will do worse damage to your staple line than not drinking it to begin with. Good luck, and when it's time, you can eat your Beans, cottage cheese, etc.

    Surgery cancelled

So sorry to hear that! Don't get yourself down about it though. Just like everyone said, it's just postponed, not cancelled forever. Do you still get your period? Mine were making me anemic. I had to eventually get a hysterectomy and then my my numbers doubled. That's kinda drastic, but I was just thinking of things that might be making your counts so low. Try not to worry about it. It will happen for you! Now, you're already prepared with all your post-op drinks, etc. Good luck to you!

    Mexico or Bust!!!

Dr. Aceves here, too. Mexicali, Mexico. Ditto what Rev Me Up said. We were there at the same time. Could not have had a better experience. Agreed, he is a little more expensive, but I would pay it all over again for my treatment there. You will find different prices for clinic-type surgery facilities and for full service hospitals. Dr. Aceves has his own "wing" of a full service hospital. Good luck on your decision.

    Hair Loss

Tiff might come explain this here. She does a great job of it! It is not lack of Protein. People who get in the required protein also lose their hair. It is likely a combination of things including anesthesia, dramatic/quick weight loss and a low calorie diet. Might even be a hormonal thing. Lord knows they are outta whack after VSG. It ususally starts around 3-4 months after surgery and lasts several months. There is nothing you can do to prevent the hair loss, but some people have had luck taking Biotin to help RE-GROW the hair. Biotin does not prevent it from falling out. I plan to start taking the biotin as soon as I have no trouble swallowing a pill just to get a jump start on the regrowth. Don't worry, though, it will grow back and I think it is a small price to pay to lose all this weight. My sister said she would just but a bandana on her head and strut her prissy (skinny) tail around like nobody's business. Good attitude if you ask me!!

What do you think it is?

I think a lot of it has to do with fast food. It's good (usually) and cheap. It costs practically nothing to feed your entire family. Kids love it. I love it. The entire nation loves it. Also, the whole, video game/computer, keep your butt inside thing for the kids is continuing the problem into the next generation, and so on. I remember when I was in high school, I was so skinny, like 130 pounds, we all were. Maybe one big kid in the whole class. Today, I see kids in my nephew's senior class and there are only 1 or 2 kids that are a healthy weight. The rest are obese. You are so right, the world has changed, and not for the better. It might be something in the water. Or at least the milkshakes.

Gonna try that. I need to get more water in anyway! Hey Coops! You still going to see Robbie in June?? I'm soooo jealous
  18. I took my mother. My husband said he would go, but she is an RN and I knew she would be making sure everything went well. Plus she was checking the place out for herself, she just had her lapband removed and wants VSG. I believe I could have gone alone, absolutely. I just enjoyed the company and the first day or two, a hand getting out of the bed without pulling something But, like Foxbins said, the nursing staff is 100% on top of things and you don't wait around for anything.

    MIndless Eating

I hear ya. I am no where near as far out as you, but I worry so much about falling back into my old habits. I could go all day without even eating breakfast OR lunch (bad I know) because of being so busy and it wouldn't even phase me. My big problem is night time snacking. I get settled in, watch my TIVO'd shows and mindlessly eat. Just like you said. I have done that sooo long(which is clearly part of my problem with weight), and I hope that during this losing/very restricted phase I learn to control that. I am going to really have to work at it.
  21. That is so true! They don't let the pain or nausea take hold. They nip it in the bud I didn't get so knocked out as you. They musta given the 'rebel' of the bunch more of the good stuff to keep her under control...lol Yep, too bad about the noise. I never heard a peep while I was there, like they were mice. Glad you're home and sleeved. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I think it might be a bit much cause I had my surgery a week before you and I can eat maybe 3/4 an egg and one bite of toast max before being stuffed (we are all SO different though). Tiff says it might be that you can't tell when you are full yet so it IS best to measure for now. Although, I have so much restriction, I honestly couldn't get that amount of soft foods down even if I couldn't tell I was full. They would just sit in my throat. And that is a double edged sword right now, because I have to eat very often to get any decent amount of calories in. I can barely get 400-500 in right now and it is slowing my weight loss down. My surgeon says I need at least 600 up to 800 right now. I also would love some sample menus with portion sizes

    Tips for Success

Thank you for being so thorough. It helps so much to read veteran sleevers' tips. When you said 'no fat guidelines', did you mean as in eating NO FAT or you did not count your fat grams?
