    Mexican Doctors

I used Dr. Aceves in Mexicali Mexico. I cannot comment on others as he is the only one I have experience with. Have never had a better surgery/hospital experience anywhere. Just search his name on these boards. You will see what I mean. There are many, many Mexican Dr's though, so just do some heavy research before making this decision. Good luck to you!
  3. Don't forget about the IV fluids! Depending on how long you had an IV you could have gotten a significant amount of fluids that add up, too.

    Question about Pain

Don't worry, you'll be fine! There was no comparison between my C-section (mine was emergency also) and the sleeve. I mean, it will be sore when getting up and turning to the side, etc. But for me, it was nothing like my section or my open hysterectomy a few years later. The worst pain I felt, was from the cO2 gas. In fact, I was up walking the halls a couple hours after surgery. I think if there is any real pain, it will only be the first few days and you will be getting the good drugs for those days anyway! You can survive this. No worries!!
  7. You look just beautiful! What an outstanding job you have done. Congrats!! P.S. You're uncle's right!!!
  8. Dr. Aceves will put you on a week long low-carb diet if your BMI is 40 or above to shrink your liver. The night before surgery, he tells you that you can eat whatever you want before 10pm. That last meal is not going to negate what the pre-op diet did, so I guess he figures you might as well get that last good meal in. I did and it was one of the best meals I ever had!!
  9. Hope you get to the bottom of this. Will definitely keep you in my prayers.
  10. Good luck on your journey! Sounds like you have thought this through and I hope everything works out for you!!

    Dumping Syndrom

It could also be lactose intolerance with the milk in the smoothie. I can't stand artificial sweeteners so I have been eating full sugar foods from day one and have had nothing resembling 'dumping' syndrome, but I was lactose intolerant before surgery and so that's what I get when I drink a smoothie or chocolate milk, etc. I guess if a person has not eaten ANY sugar since the day of surgery and then eats a bunch of it, like in that smoothie, it might have the 'dumping' effect on them. That's why I'm glad I always included real sugar daily from the beginning, since there will always be an occasion to eat it. Like birthday parties, weddings, etc. and it might pop up somewhere unexpectedly like a smoothie! Sorry this happened to you.

Congrats! What a major accomplishment. Reading posts like yours makes me feel sure I can reach my milestones too! Thanks for the inspiration!
  14. Right, it's the maintenance that is usually the downfall for all of us. Losing is relatively easy, keeping it off, that's another story.

Great job! Thanks for posting the pics!
  17. Tijuana is not the only option in Mexico, though. Neither is Juarez. They both have been getting a lot of media for violence lately, too. I have been to both and they are kinda scary to me. I went to Mexicali with Dr. Aceves. So have 100's of others here. Just search his name here and you will find nothing but good things. He is not as cheap as the others there though. Right around $9000 but that's $3000 saved and worth every penny. I had never heard of him till I came here in November and I was having surgery by March. I researched every post I could and knew he was the one. Good luck to you, wherever you decide to go. Glad you have your mind made up to do it. You won't regret it and I hope you get your husband on board, it will be so much easier.

    Update

That's great news, Coops!! See? You're doing better than you thought! Congrats on a job well done!
  20. Just a thought, local is not always better, even if the price is the same. Research the local Dr's you might look into (if you come up the the 9000) because some surgeons are not nearly as experienced as others. Dr. Aceves has done well over 1500 sleeves and the local surgeons I checked into where I live had done 40 and 150 at the time I was looking into surgery. I agree with others who said really research each Dr before making a final decision. I wanted to have my surgery in a Hospital, not a clinic. You may be fine with either and that's great. I just wanted the 'one on one' with my Dr. and I got that (actually had 2 Dr.'s checking on me) every day I was there. I know there are many here who have had great experiences with Almanza with no problems whatsoever. I just didn't want to be that ONE patient that had a complication and so I chose Aceves to have a Hospital with a full Emergency Room just in case. That's just the kind of luck I have, so that was my thinking. I had a great experience with Dr. Aceves and could not recommend him more. He went above and beyond and I am glad I chose him. Good luck with your decision.
  21. You have 2 kinds of carbs: complex carbs, like oatmeal, bread, potatoes, etc. Then you have simple carbs, like candy, Cookies, any white sugar, etc. I guess your Dr. only wants you to count the simple (sugar) carbs and let the complex carbs slide.
  22. Good luck to you. You will do great! And remember, this section is for POST-op diets, too. Not just pre-op. Take care
  23. No physical hunger at all at almost 6 weeks out, but the head hunger has been a problem for a while now. Just want me a big 'ol bite of hubby's cheeseburger when I smell it. Thankfully he usually eats well and only occasionally splurges on fast food. That's the hardest part for me. Physically, I am full after 2 bites of something substantial, mentally though, I could eat that cheeseburger and the fries, too. And the shake, too
  24. My mother had one (had it removed) and it gave me the creeps to feel it. I just didn't want anything under my skin like that, but the port didn't bother her, just the constant throwing up and chest pain from food I was looking at your weight loss ( great BTW,) but I think you got your date wrong on your signature. I thought, I bet she's lost more than 40 pounds in 15 months!!!

    Hungry newbie

Glad you decided to post! Congrats on your great weight loss so far! I know what you mean about the commercials. They are pure torture and I either pause the tv or fast forward them. No way do I need that kind of temptation. Good luck to you!
