cold and mucus and swollen stoma from vomiting
melmce replied to Lisa_butterfly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so grateful to find this thread. I have been fighting a virus/cold/bronchitis/cough for about 2 weeks now. Tonight was miserable. I was dozing off and on, propt(sp?) on pillows - spitting up acid and mucus every hour or so, the pain is terrible, crunching on Tums (only thing I have). Then about 30 min ago or so; started vomiting up acid snd snot, to the point of dry heaves. I will definetly do the days of clear liquids, skip an antibiotic pill today. It is times like these I am so scared the band has slipped or eroded. I am glad to know I am not the only one. Go Clear Liquids. :sneaky: Thanks, Melissa -
I wish I could help. I know my surggeon will only fill his own patients, Dr. Baladas at Raffles Hosp, I have heard there is another surgeon maybe at Gleneagles hospital that does Bariatric. I travel quite a bit in the region and I have found it very difficult to eat and travel after some of my fills. I would enjoy all of the beautiful fruit available here and make sure to drink enough Water with the humid heat. Have a Great Trip - Melissa

I am subscribed to this thread, so I will monitor for new messages. I am also searching out members who have mentioned Singapore in their posts. I do travel though, so if I don't respond promptly, please send me an email. So I don't miss talking with you all. You can also send a friend request to a member that has stated they live in Singapore and we can track each other down this way also. Melissa

Hey - Happy National Day. It would be great to get together. I live off Orchard by the Paragon/Mt. Elizabeth. I am going to search for the few other folks that have mentioned living here. I think there are 2 more; and send them messages so maybe they would like to join us. Can you do morning/evening? Luckily, everthing is so convenient here; we can meet at a coffee shop. Melissa

Hi - I live in Singapore. I would love to get together and begin developing a support group here. I had my surgery in May 2007 and have lost 75 lbs. Dr. Baladas at Raffles Hospital performed my surgery. I was also very frustrated by the lack of realistic information from the nutritionist at the hospital. I gathered much better information from this site and used this to support me as I began this process. Do not give up. I have been able to enjoy many of my favorite foods in limited amounts and there are options in Singapore to support you. I will keep checking this site to check for your replies. I hope to hear from you soon. Melissa

Hi, I am getting ready to schedule by surgery tomorrow, can't wait. I am an American Mom living in Singapore - 2 small kids (I have a fat roll named after each of them ) I have been considering lap-band for a while, I found out in March that people come here all the time for this surgeon to do their surgery. I was shocked by this at first but I soon realized that I am probably the fatest person in Singapore -Ha! Can't wait to chat with all of you - DH is home, it's time for dinner. Melissa

Hi - I am so glad to hear from someone. Where are you planning on having your surgery? I had mine by Dr. Baladas at Raffles. Great Doctor, very little pain - great experience. I am so glad to have a buddy - I am from Texas and live in the Orchard area. I had my surgery in May '07 and my first fill at the end of July (delayed because of travel to US) I have lost 68 lbs. so far. I have 2 small kids that go to OFS. I had to make use of my new found freetime.

the surgeon forgot to put in the band. I saw the xrays and fluoroscope pics so I know it is there but aside from some mild pain and gas I have been fine. I had my surgery 5/3/07 - I followed the post-op diet of one week liquid, one week mushie, ease into solids. I have been able to eat normal foods. I try to eat less and stop when I feel full; but I am not seeing any decrease in the amount of food I need to feel full. I make sure to have 50-60 grams of Protein a day (with a protein shake) plus as much water/liquid as I can fit. But I feel fine - please tell me when I get a fill I will need less food. I am so afraid I am not going to see a difference. I have lost about 10 lbs since the surgery but I am trying not to pay attention since it is more about healing right now, then weight loss. I know I am rambling but I am beginning to freak out. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Melissa

If I hadn't seen it...I would swear

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I know this isn't a magic pill or anything but I just wish I had some result. I am really trying to be patient. My first fill is scheduled for June 5th, I delayed it a week due to my 3yo DS birthday. I was worried I might be sick, or have trouble keeping things down. I did see a posting of the post-op program from a Dr in the states, so I am going to print that out and use that as a guide. The dietician here was no help so I am a bit on my own. Singapore is fun. My husband works for a US company and we are from Texas, we are here on a 2 year assignment. It is a great place ti live, I try to swim alot; but I have had a run on sick kids for the past few weeks so I know I need to kick it into gear in that area. Thanks so much, it was great to log in this morning and see support from home. Melissa -

I have to head off to bed; It didn't occur to me that it was 10:30pm here. I am still not used to the time shift here - Singapore is 12 hours ahead of the US east coast. I will check again in the morning. Have a great day Melissa
