Could It Be? Light Bulb Moment
Feeling Free posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 7 weeks post op and I am finding that for the past couple of days or so that I am hungry or wanting to eat more later after dinner. Well, I have been on Dexilant for acid for about 4 weeks and about three weeks ago was the last time I took one of the pills. I've been trying to wean off of them because my insurance won't pay for them and they run me $93 for 30. Anyway, I have read that acid will mimic hunger pains and my dinner is usually my largest meal which probably produces the most acid. Well it just occurred to me that the feelings I am having are not hunger but are probably acid. As bad as acid is, it would be a relief that the feelings are acid and not me constantly wanting to eat. I will definitely continue to take the pills and see if this helps. Maybe I can take the pills every two days or so. What do you think? Could it be acid that I'm feeling? -
Could It Be? Light Bulb Moment
Feeling Free replied to Feeling Free's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the responses. I have tried all over the counter acid reducers and they did not help and that is why I had to resort to getting a prescription in the first place. I still have some of the OTC brands left though not many cause I used most of them up trying to get them to work. The acid was horrible in the beginning. Even drinking sips of Water would start it up really bad to the point I wasn't eating. Trust, I would not spend $93 on medication unless it was needed. I am just happy that there is a solution to the feeling of being hungry all of the time. Because I was able to go several days without the dexilant does give me hope that the acid will probably go away though in the long run. @Sannah, you are right, it pays to call around from pharmacy to pharmacy, I learned that many, many years ago regarding any type of shopping. It actually costs $170 where I ended up getting it from and I was quoted prices up to $210 from other places and this was factoring in all of the other stores discounts and gift cards that they give if you transfer a prescription. So the cost went from $170 to $93 after store discount and a coupon from the dexilant website. Yes, many drug companies offer coupons on their meds cause they know they are so expensive. So if you have to pay for a script, just check the website for coupons. -

How Much Time Should I Take Off From Work?
Feeling Free replied to upenzi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled for surgery on July 18th and I also work from home. I work 8 hours 5 days a week answering the phone. Although I don't do any heavy lifting, I requested 4 - 6 weeks off because I don't want to be "chained" to my chair for my recovery period. I may work part-time after 2 weeks but I haven't decided. I think that if you "need" to go back then you may be fine working part-time. If you can schedule your time in blocks, that would be even better. If I choose part-time hours, it will have to be done straight through with one 15 minute break and sitting in one spot may not be comfortable. I guess you won't be able to make a decision until you see how you're feeling after surgery. -
Congrats! Good to see it went relatively well for you and that you were able to do some walking.

AA Sleevers; where are you; what's your status??
Feeling Free replied to zoelifechick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Lyn, I am in the Atlanta area so there are several bariatric surgeons in the area. I plan to visit some of their WLS seminars when I get a chance. Also, a most of them have support groups so talking face to face with others may be helpful as well. HTH -
Bowel Movement, There I Said It
Feeling Free replied to Iliana82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my son to the doctor for this problem and he suggested Miralax. It causes the colon to absorb water which softens the stool, I think. Anyway, it works. -

Hi! I never really been a "walker" because I get really bad shin splints. My shins get hard as bricks, they get really warm and red when I walk and they hurt like heck. I've tried different types of sneakers, I have to stop and stretch while walking several times and as you can imagine it is a pain to have to do this and I'm not getting the best benefit from walking. I have an elliptical and use that but walking is a social activity for me and I would like to join in with walking groups. Does anyone have any experience with shin splints?

Thanks, makes perfect sense.

What The Bleep Am I Doing To Myself, Oh Yeah, Stuffing My Face!
Feeling Free replied to Viola's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand this must be very hard for you. You are doing the right thing though by asking for help. I have not been sleeved yet so I have no real advice to offer but I do want you to know that you're not alone. I read a thread the other day that mentioned the 5 day pouch test and how it had helped the poster ( sorry I don't remember who the poster was). I searched for it on youtube and found some interesting videos and I think maybe you should check it out. Who knows, it may help. -
Thanks! I've never tried olive oil but I do have 100% castor oil and I'm going to try that. I forgot that 100% castor oil has those "healing" properties. I will rub my legs before and hope the shin splints stay away. Thanks for reminding me. You're right, hopefully once I loose the weight, I won't have to deal with it.

Thanks! I am constantly having to stop to do the calf raises. I takes the fun out of walking. Like you, I start out slow but once I build up to a nice pace that will work my heart, I will have to stop. Needless to say, I've never lost weight from walking but since spring and summer are coming up, I thought I'd ask for suggestions.

Thanks! Those are some of the exact same things I've read but they don't help much. I've seen a physician years ago about the problem but I guess now that I am older the pain is worse.

Thanks for your input! Looks like walking might be out for me.

Congratulations! I can feel the joy when reading your words. These things mean so much to us but are taken for granted by others. Keep up the good work!
