I went to a seminar the other night given by a local surgeon. He said that when he does a revision from band to VSG or bypass that he does it in two different surgeries. He takes the band out and then a week after he does the VSG surgery. He said that he does it so he will know if you have trouble after the band is taken out he will know quickly what the issue is and if you have trouble after the sleeve he will know what the issue is. Is this normal? When he said that I was a little surprised because that means two trips to the hospital which of course comes with two different fees, being put under twice, two different recoveries, and even more time off work.
Is this something that all surgeons do and I need to just suck it up or do a lot of surgeons do it all in one surgery?
